Bali suitcase killing: daughter, boyfriend charged with murder 9:55pm August 15, 2014

Indonesian police charged Heather Lois Mack, 19, and her 21-year-old boyfriend Tommy Schaefer with her murder tonight.

If found guilty, Ms Mack and Mr Schaefer may face the firing squad as police investigate upgrading the charges to premeditated murder.

“This is premeditated murder. Why? Because we can see how they put the body in the suitcase.”

Another example of not being under US criminal procedures. FIRING SQUAD !!! My goodness. That should wake them up if they havent already begun to understand the seriousness of what they have done.

As far as why they may think it is premediated. I am not sure since it almost seems like a fight got out of hand.
Premeditaion can be in a blink of an eye so maybe the fact the fighting was witnessed before the murder.

Maybe they will try to say that they planned the murder after being seeing fighting with her.

And congratulations to the Mom for having the note not to let her daughter get into her safety box. It sounds like her mom knew her daughter very well and would try.

Her mom seemed like a great woman trying to keep making things right with her spoiled brat child.

In my experience. If parents can just make it through the tough years, usually kids will finally become respectful when they finally get older. It varies of course and for some kids it takes many many years but usually the kids will finally realize how good their parents were for them. The hard part is surviving the tough years.

Just wondering why you think she has unlimited funds? Is she allowed to raid her mother's bank acct.?

As she was caught using her mother's credit card at the hotel in Chicago before, and paid for the Bali hotel where she was arrested with her mother's card after the murder, she probably does not have funds of her own.

This article says Schaefer lost the 'love of his life' in a car accident in April this year:

How does one go from losing the love of your life in April to killing someone else's mother in Sept more than 9000 miles away.

Or a bottle of Sparkling Water. Don't most swank hotels provide "bottled" water in glass in lieu of the average Dasani, served in plastic.?

I zoomed in the photo. I could only see the arrival city code of : DPS. I'm unable to see the additional fonts displaying the time (Zulu), place, agent sine, and passenger name.

FIRING SQUAD!!! Whoa, now the reality of what they did should be setting in.

As per quote, it's an odd statement that doesn't seem to prove premeditation, IMO. Sorry, I have to ask this horrible question - Did they stuff the mother in the suitcase when she was still barely alive?

I would guess the boyfriend doesn't come from a wealthy family. The daughter may not have her own trust fund. From what I've read, accommodations, food, and physical comforts in the prisons can all depend on money.

And when you don't have money, you know what "it do".

This girl is going to spend years coming to the realization Mom wasn't all that bad after all. Oh, yes, you're going to miss your Mother, stupid girl!

Per the NY Daily News article, Chicago police responded to the Mack residence for domestic violence and theft calls 86 times in the past ten years. 86 TIMES.

This is speculation on my part, but I find it interesting that they killed her in Bali - and she seems surprised when her cries of "But I'm an AMERICAN!!!" aren't found to be impressive. Had she killed her mother here in Chicago, the police would've instantly suspected her, due to the past incidents with her mom. So she couldn't do it here. I can't help but think that she greatly underestimated the police and legal system over there - she probably thought she could simply walk away with ease.

Did she really think she was slick enough to get away with murder? After leaving her Mother's body in a suitcase...a bloody one?

She's the talk of the town, and I rarely bring up current crime/missing person events to my friends...but this one, I've been asking everyone's opinion.

I'm glad she was charged! But why did she hire an attorney who specializes in divorces and child custody? And, a Chi-town attorney? Why? If I had unlimited funds to blow, I would go to the best. And, Kirkland and Ellis is the most powerful, vicious, well-known firm in Chicago (JMO). They come along with a sickeningly massive price tag, but they get the job done, and although they're not likely to do criminal law, I guarantee they have a referral on standby for their clients who have a run-in with the law.

If I were ever in the unfathomable position of facing criminal charges in Bali, I would hire an attorney who was well-versed in the law, there, and perhaps an attorney in Chicago to consult with him.

I hope her Mother's estate isn't paying for her legal team.

When I posted this thread, I could not find a single scrap of info to corroborate from anyone in Chicago....I kept thinking I'd made a terrible mistake. Spent hours worrying. Wish you'd been here to hold my hand.

I'm not surprised it's the talk of the town now though. It's just so dreadful. And the apparent lack of grief is the worst thing, although I guess that will be shown when the trial comes.....

I do love my city, very much - but normally the crime here revolves around gangs. And gangs. And drugs. Did I mention gangs? I think the reason everyone's been discussing her is the "poor little rich girl" syndrome she suffers from.

Boy oh boy, is she going to be in for a world of surprise. Jail isn't fun, but firing squad is considerably more frightening!

'Body in suitcase' mother was beaten to death with an ashtray and vase with such force they shattered, police reveal, as FBI arrive in Bali to investigate Chicago socialite's killing
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...gate-murder-Chicago-socialite-Bali-hotel.html

In this article Heather claims she has a ectopic pregnancy and needs to be returned to united states for treatment. IMO she'd have a better chance if she had Ebola. Jmo

Idk did the FBI go to Bali because Mrs Mack was rich or do they send a team for all US citizens killed in foreign countries?

ciao
