So, here is a better source about the (singular) FBI agent who has arrived to provide back-up in the investigation.

On Friday, a US Federal Bureau of Investigation agent arrived to assist with the investigation, Bali police said.

"The FBI agent wanted to know about the developments of the police investigation, and he will also provide back-up for us," local police chief Djoko Hari Utomo said.

And a bit more about the investigation ..

Medics found she had a broken neck and nasal bone and died asphyxiated, doctor Ida Bagus Putu Alit said.

The victim died on Tuesday before a wake-up call she had requested at 10:00am, the doctor added.

Bali police chief Benny Mokalu has said strong evidence, including CCTV footage and finger prints, means police are likely to seek a charge of premeditated murder against the pair.

IMO, the FBI agent is probably more in the capacity of a liaison for the US State Dept. with no control over anything. Like in Meredith Kercher's murder, the US Embassy was immediately notified because US citizen Amanda Knox was being investigated as a party to the crime.

SBM

From enjoygram,
he has IL state ID (not a driver's license, wonder why?) his dob = 07/13/93, so he turned 21 y/o last month.

Also, several (seemingly obligatory) pix of grass, joints, wads of $100 bills.
Wonder if he had any drugs w him in Bali?

Greetings, al66pine. One of Tommy's former roommates posted a couple of comments a few hours ago. He wrote that he lived with TS from Jan to July and he owed TS money. When TS asked to be paid back just before he took the flight, TS told him that if he would pay him back $200 then, he would forgive the rest of the debt. TS told his roommate that he was traveling to Asia and that when he returns, he would have a lot of money.

If TSs roommate's statements are true and accurate, it goes to premeditation. And if it is a premed crime, the murder was an ill-conceived plan. My apologies if this has already been mentioned. I spent most of the night on the Protest thread and haven't gotten caught up on this thread yet.

http://abc7chicago.com/news/attorney-claims-heather-mack-assaulted-in-bali-police-custody/265187/

"... [HM's Chi attny] issued a second statement saying that [HM] has not been charged and has been physically assaulted while in custody. ... is approximately two months pregnant, has been threatened with deprivation of food and water and that a translator provided for her was a private detective. ..."

Sounds like that attorney needs to read up on Indonesian law and jail conditions, and hire someone to provide his client with nutrition.

So ... did the mom know about the pregnancy prior to the vaca trip and prior to paying for TS' flight or did she just learn of it and when?

Two months pregnant (according to HM's attny) and smoking???

This young woman strikes me as someone who simply doesn't care as long as she is having fun and getting her own way.. At first I thought maybe this was a accident gone wrong and they were trying to cover it up because it sure wasn't planned in a smart way. However, the more I read about this I'm having my doubts..

Obama should tread lightly, and yes I voted for him last election. We don't need another Amanda Knox. John McAfee is another. Americans can't just go to other countries, commit murder and expect to get away with it just because they're Americans!!!:jail::jail::jail:

Not everyone here believes that Amanda Knox is guilty (or at least this person does not) so please, let's not lump the 2 together. It's pretty glaringly obvious from DNA and circumstantial evidence that Heather Mack IS guilty. Not so clear cut in the Knox case. I see no reason why the USA should agree to extradition in the Mack case. If you recall, Amanda was free to come home after being found not guilty in a court of law and released from prison. Whole other ball game.

Heather Mack appears to be one incredibly despicable human being. She has a major history of discord with her mother. I read that her mom was warned not to take her daughter on this trip bc of the fighting she's endured with her, including Heather breaking her mother's arm...among other things.

I hope Heather & Tommy aren't allowed to be extradited. They did the crime there so do the time there. Hopefully they don't get out of prison alive.

As far as the baby is concerned, if Heather carries it full term, then either somebody in the family can take care of it or it can be adopted out. This chick in no way shape or form should be allowed to raise a baby when considering her issues...even if she gets out.

Real classy, huh? What a piece of work. 😡💥

Heather is pregnant and unmarried in a Muslim country & in a Muslim jail being charged with the murder of her mother.

GOOD!

Leave her there. It'd be such a shame to bring her back here to America for us to foot her bill, where she has the luxury of 3 square meals a day, clean linens - heck a bed & toilet that's not shared by 10 other people - a lawyer that our govt would pay for, free access to books, visitations, etc. It'd be a slap in her dead mother's face for this girl not to pay her penalty...(her bf too)

"She would never give up on that girl. She was crazy about her. That was her heart. That was her only child," said Willie Nance, a longtime friend. "She kind of thought she would change."

Heather Mack, a talented dancer who attended Oak Park & River Forest High School, must now navigate the confusing and reputedly corrupt Indonesian judicial system. The U.S. State Department has said it is monitoring the case in the predominantly Muslim archipelago, where Mack is represented by a court-appointed attorney, though a lawyer in Chicago has said he also represents her.

If convicted, she could be executed, though Indonesia's death row is mostly inhabited by inmates convicted of serious drug offenses.

"The Indonesian detention system is what you'd expect of a tropical, Third World, developing country," said Tim Lindsey, director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at Melbourne Law School in Australia. "I wouldn't want to be there."

Von Wiese-Mack, 62, was seen arguing with the pair over who would pay Schaefer's hotel bill earlier that day, according to Tribune news services. Later the young couple came down with a suitcase that they loaded into a taxi after refusing offers of help from hotel staff, police said.

Records show the teen — who was represented by an attorney hired by her mother — was placed on one year of court supervision after she was found guilty of battery. She was ordered to undergo mandatory counseling, including for anger management, as part of a violence prevention program. Heather Mack lived during parts of 2012 in two different community-based facilities for minors in the juvenile court system in need of education, life skills and mental health services.

Oak Park officials said police went to the home 86 times since January 2004, mostly for domestic disturbances, theft and missing person calls. Several friends told the Tribune that von Wiese-Mack suffered a broken arm during one argument with her daughter.

Criminal investigations are handled so differently there. I didn't expect to see a picture of all the evidence spread out in a parking lot in the sun. Oh no, she really is pregnant. This makes the whole case even more sad, JMO.

EXCLUSIVE: Spread out in the sunshine outside police headquarters - the gory evidence that will be used against a U.S. teenager and her boyfriend in the 'body in the suitcase' murder of her mother

"Daily Mail Australia was told by an investigating officer today that a medical report confirmed that the young woman was indeed pregnant - but it is highly unlikely her request to be returned to the US will be granted."

"With little chance of receiving bail, Ms Mack now faces the prospect of giving birth to her baby behind bars in a prison hospital - and then facing many years in jail, if not sentenced to death by firing squad, should she be convicted."

"Her baby will either spend its early years with her in prison if she is convicted, or be cared for by willing families, but one thing is certain - the baby will have no grandmother."
