I sure hope the State Dept. turns their back on her and lets her rot in Bali. And I NEVER say that. I always appreciate our govt. looking out for citizens in legal trouble in other countries. But the battered body in a bloody suitcase wheeled out to a taxi is just too much for me. DONE.

BTW, I don't think these two will be put to death in Indonesia. And my glee over them having to face justice there certainly doesn't have to do with the prospect of them facing a firing squad. It has to do with them facing reality in a harsh, third world prison in a country where respect for authority is a major, massive part of the culture.

Can you imagine? In Indonesia, it is disrespectful for people to give an unsolicited opinion of anything at all, during a conversation with someone older. Younger people are not supposed to look at their elders in the face. It's disrespectful. Students cannot challenge their teachers. Ever. They'd be beaten. Respect and obedience are HUGE. And here are these two, one who fights her
mother left and right, and assaults her and another who confronts and gets nasty with the police in the US, acting like a wanna' be 🤬🤬🤬🤬, and here they are, arrested for investigation in Bali. I love it. I wish I could watch them begin to realize what they are facing there- how their antics will not be allowed.

I do think it could've been sudden. His statement could've been similar to what many people say when heading to paradise for vacation: "I might just stay there!"

Harder to to explain is his statement to his roommate that he was going to come back with tons of money.

BTW, I think his passport was held in the SD box because that's typical of tourists in these countries, so nothing gets lost. I'm sure he felt it easier to put his in with theirs. I just think they didn't anticipate not being able to access it after the murder.

I've known a few spoiled girls like this one (hopefully not as evil or stupid, they've still got time to grow up). It's possible that HM and TS thought her pregnancy would result in the two of them being given enough money to get married and live off the mother's money, as HM was up to that point. They seemed to have no other good plan for getting hold of the mother's money (what appears to have happened could not have worked). OTOH, HM had been violent with her mother before, so who knows.

I just heard on our TV News that their President has shown clemency to a New Zealand girl who was jailed in early February this year after police found ½ a joint in her handbag. The President has knocked one month off her 10-month sentence.

This is considered to be a very light sentence. In fact, one reporter wrote an article about how she got her light sentence.

Leeza Ormsby's playbook on how to get off a drug charge lightly

- The 1st thing Ormsby did right when arrested on Feb 12th was shut her mouth. No protesting her innocence, no questioning the Indonesian justice system, no incidental comments.
- Her second wise move was to hire local lawyer Ary Soenardi. He has a good reputation … Soenardi was on the scene on the very first night.
- Was polite and co-operative.
- Said she was given the joint by a man she did not remember on the beach the day before, and she profoundly regretted smoking half of it with him.
- Said she had learned a ''valuable life lesson''.
- Ormsby outlined her drug history and pleaded addiction. (In the Indonesian system, being a drug addict is a mitigating factor.)
- She was polite and apologetic in court. Being polite and apologetic is also often cited by judges as they hand out light sentences.

Ha ha ha. Can you imagine these two acting like this?

I'm curious to know if the broken neck/vertebra happened as a result of an assault/blow from in front of her or behind her or from being stuffed in the suitcase. [Absolutely awful any which way!] Could the ME determine which it most likely was? TIA

I don't think the girl is adopted. She looks very much like both her mother and father to me.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/17/chicago-teenager-accused-mother-bali-abused-by-police

"... [HM], 19, has told her Chicago-based lawyer [MElk] that she is two months pregnant and has been badly treated by law enforcement officers. ..."

Probably because she's popping off at the mouth, making imperious demands and throwing full blown tantrums. The officials there have likely never seen anything like it in their lives. They probably will end up thinking she's brain damaged.

This is going to be almost hilarious to watch.

Interesting article on the history of the mother/daughter relationship.

...snipped... "Records show the teen — who was represented by an attorney hired by her mother — was placed on one year of court supervision after she was found guilty of battery..."

Mother tried to help daughter before Bali slaying

"She never believed her life was in danger," Nance said. "She was just worried to death about Heather."

"Despite the turmoil, von Wiese-Mack and her daughter continued the family tradition of taking exotic vacations each year, friends said. This year they chose the St. Regis in Bali, a five-star resort where rooms can cost as much as $1,340 a night."

"She always tried to show (Heather) the best things in life," longtime friend Mark Bacharach said. "She was always there for her."

"Mack has several half-siblings from her father's first marriage, though she has had little contact with them since his death. Her half sister Katherine Mack, who lives in New York, said she hasn't seen Heather Mack in more than a decade. She said her father always spoke lovingly of Heather before his death."

"He was very proud of her," Mack said. "He always said she was intelligent and bright and that they had a very good relationship."

I've been scanning the social media of these two. Such nice lives. The girl is very unpleasant to me. It's always "F" everything and dramatic pauses and faces.

And it seems she's quite normal with her friends. In other words, she can control the "crazy" with others, just not her mom. Which means she's not crazy. Just spoiled.

I also notice that some in her community are discussing vine snaps she posted a year ago of her mom seemingly drunk, and maybe saying she might not have been as innocent (the mother), as one would think. Heck, if I had to deal with a daughter like hers, I'd get drunk too, now and then.

So how come we haven't heard anything about their stay in Seminyak?
Seems odd that the bf arrived so close to their departure back home. Was the couple planning on continuing their stay on Mom's dime? Who would fly all the way to Bali to stay 3 days? Seems his visit was purposeful.

Perhaps Seminyak/Kuta was just a stop on their itinerary.

I can't give Heather sympathy when she obviously only stayed involved with her mother for the money, IMO. She didn't want anybody to tell her what she could do, but then she and her bf took advantage of her mother's credit cards, etc., It's despicable on her part for allowing her boyfriend to disrespect her own mother that way. The weight of this crime is more on her, IMO.

This is all just my own opinion. Sometimes, tough love is the only way to protect yourself for both parents or children in certain situations.

It boils down to this being a very toxic mother/daughter relationship. I'm not convinced Heather had issues other than being spoiled rotten and an inability to control her anger with her mother. She was the daughter that should have moved far away the minute she turned eighteen, IMO.

JMO, it would've been much better than the suitcase ending.

I'm wondering if Heather didn't cause the confusion about her being adopted by telling people she was, after her mother died. Re: Her own pregnancy, apparently abortion is only an option in extreme cases in Indonesia.

I wonder if she's crying for her Mommy yet?

Thanks, but I don't seem to be tech savvy enough to use that site properly. Every time I try to go there, I get this web page with company information and pics of the CEOs and descriptions of various products, but I can't seem to find the page where you can search the site. I have a twitter account and downloaded it for my iPhone, signed in etc. but no luck with peoplebrowsr. I don't want to do a "free trial" of some software and enter in my credit card info. Have you got a link for the search engine part of the site? Is it free? Thanks.
I don't think we are allowed to post the actual link so I'll type it out for you
