Well, I am looking into this thing about the US taking the Terrible Two back to the US .. so far, I have found this:

Though it does not completely make sense to me, because US citizens have been tried in other countries before. I mean, how can this be enforced if the US is not 'in possession' of the accused?
That's a tough case to cite for many reasons, just one of them being that those convicted (a US and a UK citizen, respectively) in Bangladesh were ordered to death after a trial in absentia. In almost all cases (terrorists and political cases aside) the country in which the crime was committed retains jurisdiction. I can't see how or why Indonesia would forfeit that right. It's actually standard protocol for the US State Department to advise it's citizens traveling and living abroad that they are subject to the laws and subsequent penalties of the area they travel/move to.

I'm aware of some convicted criminals later returned to their home countries on humanitarian grounds - but all post trial, and usually only after completing a substantial portion of their sentence in the country in which they committed the offense. Extradition laws often allow for such an eventuality.

So, I guess I don't get it either why there's even a seeming possibility of them being tried stateside. It doesn't make sense. Without an actual quote from an Indonesian official citing the reasons for such, I'm thinking there's an error in understanding the legal process somewhere. Think of everything that goes into a prosecution - the officers, the forensics - imo, that would be next to impossible to replicate on American soil. Either that, or I'm grossly misinformed.

Tues, 8/12/14; ~6:45a "[SWM] called receptionists asking to wake her up at 10 a.m. ... However, she did not respond when awakened."

* * *

I wonder how LE are sure it was SWM, and not HM, who placed the ~6:45am request call for a wake-up call at 10am?

Was it SWM's habit while on Bali to request a wake-up call?

One case that comes to mind....US citizen, Gabe Watson went to trial in Australia for the manslaughter of his wife. He was deported back to US after he'd served his time in Oz. Then he was trialled again in US, eventually the case was dismissed.

I guess the papers have to print something anything. Looking at the details of their heinous murder of her mother Heather's whining about what she is fed or how she is treated is not news worthy.

She murdered her mother next she'll be diagnosed with affluenza. Jmo

ciao

I understand they are U.S. Citizens, and the U.S. does their best to protect their own, but if they committed a murder in another country, that is where they should be punished, IMO.. They were under the Indonesia law when they were visiting.

I agree with you. However, they are rich, so I bet you they will be brought back. If they were poor, no one would move a finger for them to be tried here. I know, I am a cynic.

I wonder how close together/far apart the two hotel rooms were?

Bali Suitcase Murder Timeline:

Mon, 8/4/14 SWM & HM arrived on Bali; first staying at Simanyak Hotel

Sat, 8/9/14 SWM & HM moved to the St. Regis

Tues, 8/12/14; 12a+ Boyfriend TS arrived on Bali; St. Regis security camera showed HM, SWM & TS had public argument in lobby about who would pay bill upon departure; SWM said something like: I paid for his flight, you two can pay for his hotel.

Tues, 8/12/14; 3:45a SWM was last spotted on CCTV

Tues, 8/12/14; ~6:45a "[SWM] called receptionists asking to wake her up at 10 a.m. ... However, she did not respond when awakened."

Tues, 8/12/14; > 10a SWM, the victim, died before a wake-up call she had requested at 10:00am ... in TS's room ... suspected weapons: ashtray & vase ... Bali police: "TS' fingerprints on murder weapon and suitcase"

Tues, 8/12/14; ~11a HM & TS carried suitcases to taxi via back staircase and loaded them into taxi; metal suitcase with SWM placed in car trunk; told driver they'd be back; in lobby asked for contents of safe deposit box (SWM's jewelry, passports, ?money?) and said SWM would pay for rooms when she checked out on Thurs; staff refused on both accounts; HM & TS said they had to return to their room but fled the hotel out a separate exit and at some point hailed a taxi; went to airport; inquired about replacement passports; left to nearby hotel which they paid with SWM's cc; requested internet access

Wed, 8/13/14; ~8a LE found HM & TS at hotel not far from airport and arrested them.

The timeline makes me think this was pre-planned.

I don't think it was planned. I think they lost their collective sh,,, continuing the argument. I could be persuaded otherwise by evidence of course.

I tend to agree. Sounds like HM felt entitled to a luxurious life funded by her mom, and TS has an idea that he'd be marrying into that life because of the baby. Meanwhile the mom was upset about the pregnancy and getting tired of being taken advantage of, esp by the addition of more dependents - daughter's bf plus baby.

:floorlaugh: Fast food IS expensive in Bali for the locals. And is among the only western food readily available, unless you want to go and sit at a restaurant that imports meats and prepares them. They do not have many local producers of meat products, and eat meat very sparingly themselves .. due to cost and availability.

We are talking about a country where the villages have water delivered in big water trucks, because there is not even running water .. though it is different in the tourist zones.

The stupid boy was getting a 'treat'. And he is lucky they are feeding him at all. Maybe they will stop now.

Ummm, I eat KFC on occasion and I'm not black, nor am I lower-class.

I honestly find this amusing. They're upset that they were given fried chicken?

Did they expect eggs Benedict with crabmeat? Guess they've never heard of Sheriff Joe in Arizona?

"....American teen charged with murdering her mother and stuffing her body in a suitcase has complained about the prison food and her treatment as she awaits trial..."

GMAB !!

How about their treatment of her mother, when they beat her to death ??

Here is what I'm not understanding... Is HM rich or was it only her parents? Sounds like HM was getting money from her mom, and now her mom is dead so would mom's money go to HM? I'm confused on this :bang:

I do not know how it would work since to all appearances, she killed her mom.

Pregnant teen accused of mother's suitcase murder claims she's been sexually assaulted repeatedly in Bali prison (and now she's served McDonalds after complaining over 'racist' KFC)
LINK: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...n-given-McDonalds-complaining-racist-KFC.html

Now, what does sexually assaulted mean? She was raped?, she had to strip down for a search? This news is coming from her attorney who is not even in Bali. She is only talking to him via the phone.

Further reading, her attorney said this: Elkin said Heather was distraught when he spoke to her by phone several times overnight. 'She was tearful, she is being mistreated,' he said.
He said the information Heather can give him is limited as he is worried their phone calls are being monitored by authorities in Bali. 'I have told her she can only give me yes or no answers,' he said.
'I asked her if she was being mistreated and she said yes. I started going through questions and asked her if she had been touched inappropriately and she said yes. I asked her if it was in the female area and she said yes. I asked her if it was on more than one occasion and she said yes.
'I asked her if it was consensual and she said no. I could not go into the specifics of whether there was an actual rape or whether it was sexual assault, molesting, call it what you will. I cannot say for sure it was intercourse.' SNIPPED

There would be no way to know if this is true. She doesn't seem shy, I can see her screaming bloody murder if this was true.

Probably the best thing either of these two can do is to get some money into their accounts there, to buy protection and food?
