Don't know how I missed this before, but according to an incident report dated 10/23/11 (see http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/23...llow_share=true&escape=false&view_mode=scroll), Sheila refused a police's offer of Thrive Services for Heather. See http://thrivesupportservices.com. I got the sense that Thrive had been offered for Heather before.
Whoa! I've worked at a couple human service agencies for people with developmental disabilities/mental health issues. Folks don't get admitted to Thrive for a "depression" diagnosis (those folks were sent to hospitals). Our clients had cognitive and/or physical developmental disabilities, or serious mental health concerns such as borderline personality disorder that prevented them from normal healthy independent living alone or with their families.

Although, most have already concluded that Heather has serious mental health issues, this further indicates that a professional had actually diagnosed her. With what? IDK.

Update: I may have been looking at the wrong Thrive Services. There's another in Oak Park that offers family counseling and youth services. http://www.thrivecc.org/index.asp

We do know she has been in a treatment facility twice before iirc.

With the taxi, I've been to poor countries before and I'm sure it must have been a real inconvenience/major impact for both the taxi driver and the owner of the company (if they aren't the same). I would have rathered HM leave the suitcase with her mother in it in a stairwell in the hotel or to have thrown it in the ocean or something rather than involve a Bali citizen in this way. I feel like HM wouldn't have even considered her actions and how it would affect the "little person".

There was a case recently where a hospital had a missing patient and she was found deceased in the stairwell TWO weeks after she went missing. There was a good chance sticking the suitcase in a stairwell or closet somewhere would have gone unnoticed longer than giving it to someone to hold for two hours.

But I mean of course I'm glad she put it in the taxi if only for Sheila to have been found in a reasonable time to have the indignity of getting stuffed in the luggage ended. Her body deserved to be treated with respect.

There is an update about TS on a page we can't link.

They say he is still detained and they are trying to arrange representation.

They mention (update by two people, not TS's mom) that they need to protect his "rights" and I'm curious about what that means. Certainly not his US citizen rights. Maybe his "human rights"?

Yeah, but that case was a rarity. It was a public hospital with lax security, they couldn't decide if the hospital or sheriff's department was at fault. They searched some of the stairways, just not the one she was in. Someone reported seeing her, it wasn't followed up. There was no door alarm on the stairwell door, and it was a case of mistaken identity. She was a caucasian British woman with black hair- they described her race as black or Asian. And they weren't sure if the doctor had discharged her. Combination of errors.

Not sure if this article has been posted - 5 days old - but...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/08/31/bali-murder-suitcase-chicago/14569125/
Heather Mack and Schaefer face the death penalty or a firing squad if convicted of planning her mother's death. If found guilty of an unpremeditated, heat-of-passion killing, they could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The couple will have to testify at their trial. Indonesian law requires defendants to answer questions from the prosecutor, defense attorney and the three presiding judges who will decide the verdict. Indonesia has no jury system.

No Jury, and no chance to sway a group verdict.
And the FBI were helping backtrack HM and TS movements before and gather information from the US.
I have a feeling the Bali courts maybe going for pre-meditated murder.
Im not sure that mental health issues play as a prominent defence role in the Indonesian Courts.

I wonder where they got 15 years from? If Scapelle got 15 years for some pot, I would think HM would get longer for murder.

I also did wonder about a mental illness defense. I have read in Bali, they give lighter sentences for drug crimes if the person can demonstrate addiction. I wonder if the same applies to mental illness?

Even as time goes by, I'm still so pissed off at Sheila's daughter, Heather.
IF, Heather, had EVER wanted it out there, that she was remorseful, in any way, over the death of her Mother-it would have been and would be ALL over the news.
As hard as it to believe.
Heather is not remorseful. That's been pretty clear.
This may sound mean.
I am glad she's in jail in a country that does not coddle murderers.

When she goes to prison, I really think it will be hell.

Every 86 times the police were called, every time, she was offered help, every time she attacked her Mother.
Every time she thought that she should be partying on her Mom's credit card.
Every time she dissed her step brother's and sisters. Imo.

If, guilty, of killing her own Mother. I cannot give this girl any slack.
May the punishment fit the crime.

Like I should value what they have to say.

The friends of the alleged mother-murderer think of HM as one of their own, a homie, but getting real, none of them would kill their own mother.

IMO, a homie should be someone you can trust in your own home who won't kill their own mother or your mother.

The max 15 years for non-premeditated murder is part of Indonesian law. (Schapelle's sentence was 20 years for smuggling 9lbs/4.5kg of cannabis.)

Murder: penalties range from a maximum of 15 years’ imprisonment for general murder (Article 338 of the KUHP) to life imprisonment or death for premeditated murder (Article 340 of the KUHP)

And the mental illness aspect is out of the picture. Mental health is one of the first things they checked, and according to the police officer in this brief news video both of them were declared mentally fit.

Absolutely agree. Was kind of curious about what "Thot Boys" actually meant (in Thot Boys VonMar and Chris who supported Heather). I googled and found that THOT means "That Ho Out There." Found it kinda funny that two or more comments referred to Heather as a THOT and one a "dumb spoiled" thot," and that the rest of the comments mostly roasted VonMar and Chris for being dumb azz idiots who supported HM: http://kollegekidd.com/news/thot-bo...nd-stuffing-mom-body-in-suitcase-in-indonesia

The comment that got me was "Who am I to judge?" Sounds just like the juror who made it onto the Casey Anthony jury, who refused to judge. Excuse me, that's what jurors do- judge people and lay people do it all the time, we have every right to judge someone!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Vines of "Vonmar", Tommy and Heather in the Conrad hotel at this link...

You can actually see one where the police are leading HM away in handcuffs.

ETA: This is the link that comes up when you google Heather Mack Vinegram. Looks like "Vonmar" is trying to capitalize on her story in the news by attaching her name to his vine and you tube channels? Trying to cash in on her "15 minutes" as it were? It appears he's a wanna be rapper as well.

Kamille...good catch. Sick way to cash in for so-called fame. Noticed that HM didn't include this in her mass collection of vines. In her vines, she captures her own charm, parties and good times, but not mom's. Mom is always caught on these Vines in an unflattering moment...cursing or drinking or getting a chiropractic adjustment. It's almost like Heather documents Sheila's "bad" behavior on Vine, while Sheila uses 9-1-1 police reports to document Heather's violent outbursts. So very sad for them both.

I wondered what thot meant...lol. Thanks.
Good to know in case it's in a crossword puzzle someday.

Is this the same guy that pretended to know her in that interview video with some people she went to school with and was more concerned about the fact that he was getting attention more than anything? Did you see how many comments were on their vines, instagrams and videos saying "Hey check out my video, etc." when the hits increased after they were arrested? People will attempt to get fame in any way they can...even if they have to hitch their wagon to a murderer...

And wasn't that woman's cause of death listed as some odd electrolyte imbalance with confusion brought on by alcohol abuse? I remember shaking my head after reading that. Indeed, two weeks is long time to be lying dead in a hospital stairwell.

I remember there was some confusion earlier, about whether Sheila gave birth to Heather, or adopted her. Was that ever clarified?

I am very curious because I am trying to understand the relationship dynamics.
