Last Updated Thursday, May 4, 2017 3:50PM EDT Two people who were questioned by Belize police in the deaths of a Canadian woman and her American boyfriend have been released.
The mother of the American man says the U.S. embassy in Belize told her both people being questioned were released and no one is currently in custody.
This is so strange in that something seems missing from the story.
No one wanted the car, but took the battery and the keys?
This happened on the last night of her stay (but not the last night for him bc he was leaving a few days later).
They were out at the bar to say goodbye to friends? (So folks knew they were leaving and when).
There was a flat tire? But we don't know when it happened.
Maybe whoever thought both were to deart on the same day,
....which brings me to.... why wasn't the bf going to drive her to the airpoert? Why the other guy? (The one who, I believe, IIRC, reported them missing and that their luggage or hers was still there. )
Maybe some of this is a slip in reporting, but his luggage wouldn't be with hers bc he wasn't leaving yet. (?)
He was a huge man and ex military. There had to be a weapon to subdue him or catch him by surprise and knock him out or otherwise incapacitate him. Yet they were strangled.
There were previous threats made to her, but these were not reported to police. Maybe bc the threats CAME from someone in LE? (Sorry. It happens in places.)
Autopsy done on scene. Just bizarre.
Before this, I had had a wonderful idea of Belize. I actually thought it was a wealthy area, Maybe I'm thinking of 20 years ago though. Things change.
This couple looked so happy. What a sad horrific end.
Couple found dead in Belize not killed for theft; Canadian detained: Police
Theft is not believed to be a motive in the suspected murders of an American man and his Canadian girlfriend, a police spokesperson in Belize said on Thursday.
Two people have been detained in connection with the case, according to police, who said that one of the two is a Canadian citizen.
In an interview with Good Morning America Wednesday, DeVoursneys mother, Char DeVoursney, described her son as strong and brave.
Drew DeVoursney originally went to Belize to buy property with his best friend from the Marines, according to his mother.
She said that at one point he even hoped to establish some citizenship there.
The mother said it was very comforting to know that he was not alone when he died.
She said she hopes to be able to find out exactly what happened and who did it.
Slightly O/T - Despite how sad I am over the murder of two fellow human beings and how bad I feel for their family and friends, isn't it interesting to see how criminal law and LE works in another country?
Too many clues for this to be a random robbery
- Threats
- Francesca's planning to leave in the morning
- Tampered door lock
- Duct tape
Add to that, would you rob a girl that was with a 6'6" ex marine?
This has all the makings of a planned hit. They are dead because for some reason somebody wanted them dead. I'm wondering if the perp knew that the farmer was about to torch the field and figured the bodies would be burned? Possibly the burning is something that is done every year at the beginning of May?
Here's the picture of the car. Perhaps the doors left open to get the fire (going on the burning fields theory!) quickly to the interior.

I am guessing she is self-employed. Her family stated she owns a few properties in the Toronto area that she manages. Since there are children there was likely a divorce and she could have used settlement money to start a business buying and renting or flipping small homes or properties, setting herself up perhaps as an LLC that has no other employees. That would not leave a paper trail but would provide enough income to travel and wouldn't require her to have a realtor's license. My step brother manages several rental homes in Seattle - if you googled him or the name he rents the properties under you wouldn't find anything on a search engine either, as he does this as a side business which covers his house payment and some spending money post-retirement, not as a big corporation.
The field where the bodies were found was scheduled to be burned (not sure why anyone burns sugar cane fields), but I have not read that the field where the car was found was scheduled to be burned. I thought the doors were left open to allow animals and nature to destroy evidence.
Quick look at the Canadian that was in custody in video.

rbbmDue to privacy concerns Global Affairs is not releasing the mans name.
But local media said the Canadian suspect will be returned for more questioning on the double-homicide. Sources say the man is not cooperating with cops.
More than likely he should be going to court tomorrow (Friday) for the burglary, so hes not released ... hes a person of interest for the murders, a Belize police sergeant told The Canadian Press late Thursday night.
Looks like he was doing something construction related in Belize...or at least trying to get something going. Was he also wintering in Belize or was he planning to move there? Now that he has been released, will he be returning to Canada? :waitasec:
