Bones

Yep..quoting myself..gah! Bahaha..Missy? Jaiddie? anyone? No link necessary for ME/MY question..just refreshing my memory. Should be getting sleep as I've had 3 hrs, maybe 4 in the last couple of days. ( good friend of ours was in a car accident..unconscious still )

Dexter, sorry to hear that, and praying your friend has a speedy recovery. Hope you get some much needed rest as well.

Hi Dexter first of all sending my thoughts and prayers also for a speedy recovery.

I did some more searching and did indeed find about the skull fragments, however this whole burning the body theory and the recovery of these bones don't seem to make sense to me.
What I mean is burning a body takes a lot of heat and time, this is not done in just half an hour. Also if they only find some small fragments of skull then the person trying to get rid of the body must have smashed this skull to pieces, no dental pieces were found also.
I just can't get my mind behind this theory.
I just cant seem to get

A bit of info on here you might find interesting

At 1:40 p.m., Manitowoc sheriff's Sgt. Jason Jost made a grisly discovery: a large vertebrae at Avery's burn pile pit, which marked the fourth day of a massive police presence at Avery's. Calumet County Lt. Kelly Sippel and Wisconsin DCI agent Tom Sturdivant joined Jost and they also noticed a piece of a skull.

Despite seeing a large vertebrae and parts of Halbach's skull, no photos were taken even though this discovery occurred during broad daylight.

No video recording camera equipment was utilized, either.

:getwell:So sorry about your friend, dexter. Sending thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. I have been side-tracked (FINALLY!!! Something not SA related, lol) by a recent interest in the new Big Brother and have been living on the live feeds and chatting. I seem to have an addictive personality when it comes to what I watch and get pulled into, lol:giggle: Still checking in here occasionally though. ;)

I was wondering where you have been! As a fellow BB 'superfan', I get it! LOL I haven't been able to watch too much because this is my super busy time at work, but I have loved the OTT season :)

I wonder if we could start an 'off-topic' thread? Somewhere we can check in without going off topic in a thread. I'm not sure if it's allowed or not.... maybe someone else does?

A lot of us started off thinking just like that. And if the bones don't make sense, what else doesn't make sense?

They were able to find partial pieces of a root of a tooth IIRC.

Hi Kids! Hi Jaddie! Welcome back~~We've missed you!

Refresh my memory~~I thought they did find some teeth. I'll have to go back and look in the reports or am I wasting my time??

You wouldn't be wasting your time.... I just don't have time at the moment :( I thought they found pieces that the dental guy put together and it was a high likelihood of being TH's. BUT I could be wrong BCA.

 nice to see you!

Oh wow Dexter, but it is great news your friend is okay, :)

I kind of suspect maybe Bear carried off the pelvic bone fragments to the quarry. If the quarry was a place where a lot of bones/animal carcasses were put, I could see that being a favorite spot for Bear and thus if he found something he liked, he might carry it off there.

I don't know if there were any tooth marks. I have never seen any mentioned, but a toolmark expert was conspicuously absent from the trial. So maybe toothmarks were ignored like the toolmarks mostly seem to have been?

I'm sure if there were bite marks on any of the bones, we would know about it! I wonder who would be or could be a 'toolmark expert'? I know questions were asked of Eisenberg and she was able to give a basic opinion, but could not say as an expert. If a forensic anthropologist can't determine what tool makes marks on bones, who can? She was able to determine the skull had 2 holes from a bullet, but not that the bones were cut and what with? I have been watching Bones for years.... obviously, I can't believe everything I see on TV! Bones would have figured it out in no time!!!!

Maybe Bear used to have a really reallyyyyyyyy long leash and you might be right Saul! SA would have had a few days to get Bear back and shorten it to scare off all those LE officers in the yard. ;-)

A toolmark expert would do essentially the same thing the ballistics expert did in matching the bullet to the gun. Except they'd do it with other implements.

I believe the Lindberg baby kidnapping case was the (or one of the) first case to have such an expert. The guy was a tree expert named Koehler who tracked down what type of tree the homemade ladder left at the Lindberg estate was made of, where it was milled, which hardware store the lumber was purchased from and matched it to lumber at Hauptman's house.

During the trial he demonstrated that Hauptman's hand plane had a nick in the blade that left imperfections on whatever wood it was used on and those imperfections matched imperfections found on the ladder. People at the time compared him to Sherlock Holmes.

I read several Lindbergh books in a row...bad idea they are all mixed up. But I think this one tells that side of the story best.

My best guess is that a modern day expert would find types of cutting implements at and around the crime scene and make marks on animal bones and compare them under a microscope to those on Teresa's bones. Every tool has inconsistencies or flaws and stuff. Saws get dull and cut differently. Power saws, when they get dull burn the material they are cutting. Different types of implements leave different looking marks as well, saws look different from knives so they'd be able to at least make an educated guess as to what made the cut marks.

And I just assumed Bear was occasionally let off the chain. Maybe that is a bad assumption, but I think it is not an unreasonable one.

Thanks for the info Saul!

I'm not sure Bear was always chained up, and it could be that he was that day, on the 5th, because SA had gone up to the family cabin. I do recall reading that he was allowed in the trailer, but at the moment can't recall where I read it (will keep an eye out for it). He could have taken the bone I guess... but there was no indication of bite marks, on any bones, not even the one's in the pit that were right in front of him. It's almost hard to believe that a dog wouldn't go after the bones, especially if there was still charred flesh attached. (uggh, no nice way to put that :( )

Yeah, I know there aren't any known teeth marks. It is just a thought. I really want to know how those bones got to the quarry.

Barrels
Pit
Quarry

How they got to the quarry bothers me the most...but I guess how they got into the pit, if we could know with 100% certainty, would be the most important one.

https://www.nij.gov/journals/274/Pages/firearm-toolmark-examination.aspx

Found that from the national institute of justice. Apparently the toolmark experts are firearms and toolmark experts. Which is why I was having trouble just finding toolmark people, I guess. Ballistics experts should be the same as toolmark experts, according to that link. Makes a lot of sense.

You aren't the first or only person to ponder the likelihood that Bear might have been interested in the bones
