I go back to my first thought that they were lost. TB's truck may not have had GPS and the flip burner phone didn't have a browser-perhaps they were figuring out where they were and how they were going to get back to Waterloo. IMHO, neither DM or MS would be that familiar with the roads- and they're not a straight line to the farm or hangar. Perhaps DM was checking to see if the trailer hitch on TB's truck would fit the eliminator? Curious if there's a browser history. MOO

Excellent point. I'd rejected earlier 'they were lost' theories in my head, because I was thinking "surely these guys had smart phones", but missed the fact that they didn't bring them along for the 'buy'. (And hey, THAT doesn't make them look guilty at ALL, does it?)

Browser on Tim's phone: I'm of the opinion that 1) he had no lock code on his phone, 2) it may have been the active app when they were fumbling with it and trying to turn it off.

I assume that they were looking for directions. I thought I read in the opening statements that Millard and Smichs phones were turned off at the same time as well. I imagine their excuse why their phones were off was they were out with so and so at the time of the murder and their phone was dead. Turning theirs on would ruin that alibi and put them in Brantford around 11:00PM

Yes and it pinged again for the last time at 10:56pm in the same area. From following many cases on here involving cell phones and pings, I will say that was the time the battery was disengaged from the phone. So it appears that it was thrown on the ground and came apart at that time? Thrown out a vehicle window?

MOO

Which may help us figure out the type of phone he used. Up until recently my work issued phone was a Blackberry Bold. The back cover could be opened and the battery removed. The iPhone doesn't have that option. If they shut it off and smashed it, would the phone possibly live on for a short time, allowing it to ping again? MOO

Still discussing things without the jury, so I can't tell you about anything being talked about right now.

I'm getting the impression their phones were turned off before they went to Tim's place. There is no information about their own personal phones. The burner phone appears to have been turned off at 9:23pm. Probably just as they were leaving the driveway. The argument now is the activity on the burner phone prior to 9:04pm when they arrived at Tim's.

What is not adding up for me with regards to the looking for directions angle is, if you were heading out to steal a truck and take it up to your airport hangar, would they not put some thought and research into their route before hand? I mean, based on what we've heard so far, it sounds like they weren't the best criminals in the world...sorry..."alleged" criminals, so maybe they didn't.

Someone did raise an interesting point in the Day 1 thread. Where LE found Tim's phone was about a 2 minute drive from the Brantford Airport. Does it stand to reason that he would have had dealings with anyone at the Brantford Airport and he would have been familiar with the route back to Kitchener/Waterloo? MOO

Dreaming of the ocean?

Reminding himself to be 'pacific'?

If someone could help find the exact quote that'd be great, but one of the things I'm most interested to learn more about is the "largest computer seizure in (Ontario? Canadian?) history"

Where does everyone think that factors in?

Again, points out that Jackson's testimony that he was told from other sources can't be viewed as absolute truth. “It’s merely to help you understand the chronology and the narrative as it unfolds," Goodman says.

“There are legal issues that arise in every criminal case and I’m required to discuss those issues and rule on them in your absence,” Goodman says to the jury.

DM is very familiar with the Brantford airport. I believe there was an old MillardAir plane stationed there for quite some time. I also believe he witnessed an accident there when an employee fell off some scaffolding when he was younger. Not sure of his age at the time though.

Interesting timeline developing. If the burner phone was turned off when they left the driveway (or shortly before or after) at 9:23pm and Tim's phone was turned off at 10:02pm....once you factor in the approximately 32 minutes of drive time we are now down to only 7 minutes of missing time. If the hypothesis is that he was killed shortly after leaving the driveway and before they picked up the trailing vehicle...they had 7 minutes to work with. That is just one of the theories that has been bounced around. It is going to be very interesting once we see what surveillance video from the business at the end of Trinity Rd show, if anything.

Tony Leitch, the Hamilton Crown attorney prosecuting the Bosma case, says the project involves "one of the largest computer seizures in Ontario criminal law history."

My thoughts then and now regarding the size of the computer seizure is just that DM was a rich kid and a video gamer who had a lot of toys. Not that it implied a huge crime ring.
