After Millard's arrest, things changed. Madeleine burns (DM's mother) was running things as what appeared to be an FBO. #Bosma

Susan ClairmontVerified account ‏@susanclairmont 1h1 hour ago
Millardair had appearance of a Fixed Base Operation for airplanes to stay short-term was wasn't licensed for it.

^ Just thinking on these two tweets today. TD took pains to show that there was no aviation business going on and only DM's toys were being worked on. Was the FBO part of the cover story? Was MB trying to make it look like it had been an FBO, and not a chop shop, all along? If LE are still investigating, how does this fit in?

I think the Crown was trying to knock down the notion that DM ever seriously knew how to do anything related to the aviation industry. Even his mother was running an unlicensed FBO after his arrest because she didn't know a license was needed? And I think we all suspect she tried to do things to help her son's defense. To make it look like he was actually in the process of starting a viable company. Which we also know would only have happened with others like SH actually doing the work.

given that the facility was ''up for sale'' it almost seems like ''staging'' the property doesn't it?? MOO

Well they were breaking the law by having planes in there: they weren't licenced.

They were breaking the law by having stolen goods in there.

It seems if MB were going to make a go at the FBO, she'd do it all legal. As it stands it seems like a rush cover-up. Staging, yeah: making it look like something it was not ;)

If MS is needing an appreciative glance, then I suggest that he just man up even at this late date and tell the truth and if the gun is still missing he should be leading a parade of officers right to it.....enough of the nonsense.

We are on the tab for that amazing lawyer who I have no doubt will do his best for MS even if the result is not his freedom from just punishment.
There is likely little he can bargain for at this stage of the game but if he were to come clean....show a little genuine remorse, go on the stand & tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth....he just may find himself in a cleaner, kinder facility than what I think likely awaits DM .....

That would be a measure for MS! But I doubt he would do that. :(

The overall length of the Walther PPK is just over six inches, court hears.

by Adam Carter 12:54 PM

Plath says it's hard to gauge whether or not the Walter is a small, medium or large handgun.

by Adam Carter 12:55 PM

Millard's lawyer Ravin Pillay now cross examining.

Yes, involving someone like SH might have made it legit, but for some reason SH and DM didn't stay in touch ;)

She can't determine actual dimensions of gun from photo. She does not know Walther PPK dimensions "off the top of my head."

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 4m4 minutes ago
Jury seeing photo of walther PPK held by twho fingers. Print matched to DM. @AM900CHML #TimBosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 4m4 minutes ago
Able to find overall length: 155 mm. (6 inches)

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 4m4 minutes ago
Fraser asks about length/height of Walther PPK. Plath says length is approx 500mm (just over 6 in). Doesn't know height offhand. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 4m4 minutes ago
Fraser asks how that factors as a handgun, large or small. Plath says hard to say bc so many different guns are available. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 4m4 minutes ago
Crown is done. Now Ravin Pillay for Millard. #Bosma

TD is a public defender?

I cannot see that MS would have the money to fund his own defense.....and if it is through legal aid to which he is likely entitled....it is then funded at the pleasure of we the taxpayers.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 3m3 minutes ago
That's it for Crown.
Pillay up now for cross-examination. #Bosma

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 3m3 minutes ago
Cross exam now underway. Jury sees pic of gun on black cloth. @AM900CHML #TimBosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 3m3 minutes ago
Pillay shows Plath another gun photo, a new one. It appears dark, shows a gun lying on what looks like a soft surface. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Now looking at another photo of handgun. Pillay asking Plath to compare with other images we've seen.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
Pillay asks about specific parts of gun for comparison. First, points out red dot (safety) which appears same as Walther PPK. #Bosma

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 2m2 minutes ago
#Millard lawyer Pillay now showing another gun photo; expert agrees it also looks like a Walther PPK.#TimBosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
Now point out markings on barrel. Writing appears same stylized insignia as Walther PPK. Plath says general shape is "in agreement." #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
This photo is slightly out of focus so can't read the writing on the gun.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 27s28 seconds ago
She notes photo is blurry. Writing not legible. But agrees w Pillay location-wise the text is "in agreement" with that on Walther PPK #Bosma

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 57s57 seconds ago
Image of gun is blurred. Writing on it hard to make out. @AM900CHML #TimBosma

We don't have those in Canada.

ok......dumb it down for me......do we have lawyers who represent people who can't afford to pay for a lawyer and is TD one of these? I just don't remember reading that the tax payers were paying for TD. I may have missed it......

  • #292
We must remember that the Crown has so much evidence against the accused that it's not necessary for them to be ultra aggressive with witnesses, IMO. The defense on the other hand is literally in a fight for their clients' lives and finally TD makes that point extremely clear in his cross of SS today.

All MOO.

ok in all fairness what is TD's explanation going to be for his own client not going to the police? or MM?

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 50s50 seconds ago
Pillay having Plath do a point by point comparison between this gun photo and known Walther PPK.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 20s21 seconds ago
Crosshatch pattern on grip, circular screw, also in agreement, Plath agrees. #Bosma

Legal aid is a fund for those who cannot afford legal representation in Ontario

Excellent point. I don't know if MS told LE anything. I think that piece of information came from MM (who he may not have been honest with either).

I can see where it looks like I meant MS told LE the story about the gun. I certainly could have worded that better. I meant assuming that MS told LE at some point where he actually put the gun, as opposed to allegedly telling that to MM. Because I can't be sure that even she was telling the truth when she told LE that or that he told her the truth I suppose.

So what I meant was, that is to assume MS told LE the truth about where the gun is, and they were unable to locate it.

Sorry for the confusion.

In Canada, as in Britain, the accused sit in the 'Prisoners Box' - no laughing and joking with their lawyer, thank heavens.

They don't always sit in the prisoner's box. DM and MS are sitting at a table behind their lawyers since there was not enough room to sit at the same table as their lawyers.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 12s13 seconds ago
Plath agrees this gun too cannot be excluded as a Walther PPK but stresses again w/o physically examining, can't say if real etc #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 12s12 seconds ago
Plath cannot tell from photo if this is a real gun.

I'm having a brain fart.....what is OR?

LOL! On or inside - I can't recall for sure but it was one of those 2 options (re gunshot residue on or in the toolbox). :) Sorry, I was away but am catching up now.

All MOO.

ETA: Nice to see my WS pals got that clarified earlier for me and I see also that my "OR" comment started off a chain-reaction of jokes! lol

Legal Aid isn't generous and my understanding is that it covers a fraction (and definitely not ALL) of the costs.

Can't see side of firearm where ejection port is.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
Pillay: you don't have the right side of the gun in any of the photos?
Plath agrees. That side has the ejection port. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 57s57 seconds ago
Pillay asks if she knows at what distance cartridge case is ejected at from this gun, or at what force. She can't say. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 28s28 seconds ago
She also can't say whether it comes out at a 90° angle or if it arcs. Without having actual firearm, she can't say. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 56s56 seconds ago
Since ejection port is on right side of gun she expects cartridge to be ejected from right side. But doesn't know at what angle.
