He added that she has been remanded in custody for three months, during which time she suffered a miscarriage.

When questioned if she had packed her own luggage by airport officials, KanKam-Adu insisted that she had but there was nothing of concern within it.

'Her attitude changed, she became obstructive, making comments to the officer. The officer was not being racist, it was just a random check.'

The suitcase was found to contain 22.5 kilos of cannabis, worth around £67,500 wholesale and with a street value of £225,000


KanKam-Adu said she was told she would be paid £250 to carry out the act and went to Toronto on tickets given to her and followed instructions.


I very much doubt that £250.00 was all she was paid or that she could possibly believe it was vapes she was smuggling.

It is a shocking disparity in sentencing between these 2 countries
concerning clearly the same crime
and similar defendants (both teen girls).

I mean,
up to 20 years in one
and
12 months suspended for 18 months in another.



So,
any chance of a transfer to the UK seems hopeless
as sentencing in one country should more or less mirror sentencing in another.

In general, but not always you get a 23 kilo allowance for one suitcase on long distance flights.

Bangkok to Colombo is not long distance.

Would be a lot to pay for two 23 kilo suitcases

I fly frequently within Europe and even tickets for a one hour flight can come with 23kg luggage, without being much more expensive than just hand luggage. I (legally) take advantage of cheap shopping in other countries so often buy these tickets

She asked me for tuna fish which I thought was odd and might have been something to do with pregnancy cravings - but fish cannot be sent in.

'She told me no tests, checks or medical examinations have been done.

'She said she asked for a doctor, but the doctor wasn’t speaking English and they couldn’t understand each other.'

Ms Kublashvili, who previously represented speedboat killer Jack Shepherd when he was caught in Georgia, has been closely following the case and said she has great sympathy for Bella's predicament.


I thought it had been stated that pregnancy tests had been done but that permission had not been given to release the results.

why couldnt the hot shot lawyer interpret for her ? plus you don't need much dialogue to do a pregnancy test.

If Bella knew she was pregnant then she would have presumably have used a pregnancy test and know what to do so all the doctor would need to do is hand her the test.
Sounds as if Bella wants to delay the test results until she has her fruit and tuna.

Think of the "pregnancy" as indemnity insurance.
If the drugs run goes wrong then you claim/reveal the pregnancy to get better conditions in jail or a shorter sentence.
If all goes well and you return to base then you get a quickie abortion....and then start the cycle all over again.

The way it's calculated means you're 4 weeks once you miss your period. Whilst I never had cravings so early, I did have the opposite (vomiting at the smell etc of some foods). It was a wild ride! I can't imagine ever craving tuna though.

As C.M.L. stepped off her flight at Bandaranaike International airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka last Monday, the 21-year-old former cabin attendant was arrested for an alleged attempt to bring in £1.2m worth of a synthetic cannabis strain known as kush in her two suitcases.


Both young women had flown alone from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport. A potential link between the two cases looks likely to form part of the investigations being carried out by the Georgian and Sri Lankan authorities.
