CA CA - 4 (previously 6) individuals missing near Idyllwild, summer 2020

I feel terrible for Rosario's daughter too, but I think her case is related to her dementia. I don't know if she ended up where her car was found and then wandered off. Or if she got lost somewhere else, was carjacked maybe, and is probably gone (? where she will be found). But then the carjacker would have needed to walk away from where the car got stuck so there must have been footprints, right?

Actually, if Rosario had been carjacked then there would have been evidence found in the car to confirm that, so scratch that idea.

I wonder if she was worried she was going to have to file for bankruptcy what with Covid-19 canceling all large gatherings like weddings. It's possible all the money paid out to the ranch was not recoverable by the wedding parties.
Yes, I wonder about that too.

Odd bunch of cases, but I suspect it's a statistical aberration rather than a serial killer.

It's not unusual for missing hikers to fall or collapse and not be found for some time. Paul Miller in Joshua Tree is an example. So hopefully they'll be found eventually by other hikers.

Re: Lydia Dia Abrams
So I decided to search on the San Diego Assessor web site for the La Jolla address that someone else had posted/linked to. I wanted to see if Dia still owned this property, so I was checking to see who was paying the taxes.
Hopefully someone else can help correctly interpret what I found.

Wow, some of what's due goes back a long time. It's a very complicated list. I would not be surprised if Lydia was worried about money especially since Covid stopped a lot of her businesses.

MOO, the property that sold on 6/18 was priced too low. Even for a small parcel, the property alone should be worth much more. Bugs me.

There was so much going on in Lydia "Dia" Abrams life that seems to point to a money angle to her being missing, but JMO.

Maybe she wanted to disappear.

Isn't there any engagement announcement or wedding gift registry, or anything to confirm the date of her upcoming wedding?

Thanks for the link$.

Turning my blocker off was the solution. I wish I could post the video here, but don't know how.

(Hint, hint for anyone that can get it posted here. )

Well, I don't how either. :)

I wonder if the "sale" was just a creative way of raising cash. What was "sold" was only 1 building. I don't know that Realtor.com has the correct information. I think maybe they don't, and I'm not sure why they even had a listing.
I'm now thinking it might have been more of a transfer of ownership of the 1 piece (residential building) of the property to another form of ownership to create cash flow.
For example, if the entire property is owned by Dia's trust and the trust sells a piece of the property to Dia as an individual, now there might be a separation of property taxes (most owed by the trust, and a small part owed by the individual)? And maybe the piece of property sold to the individual could now have a mortgage? And if the individual had a mortgage then mortgage interest and property taxes could be deductible if they are able to itemize?
This link for the Riverside County Assessor shows a parcel (35 acres) under a trust in Dia's name. I don't know if next year's tax records will show taxation for the "sold" building 1 separately?
Account Summary

Per Dia's husband Clem Abram's obituary, "He had an interest in real estate development...".
So I think Dia must have a decent level of knowledge of real estate as well.
Clem Abrams 1940 - 2019 - Obituary

I wish there was someone here well versed in real estate and taxes who could explain it to us. (We have a special needs trust for a family member, but there's no real estate in the trust. A tax return has to be filed for a special needs trust as its own entity by a trustee that is separate from the trustee's personal tax return.)

Otherwise, who would Dia have sold it to that would have required a listing on a public realty web site? Would she have sold it to a random person, to live on the shared ranch? From the property video it looks like building 1 or building 2 is very close to the main house where bridal parties stay. You can't have a random person living there.

I thought about it more, and this is what I should have said above as it makes more sense (it's too late for me to edit my post above - sorry!):

I wonder if the "sale" was just a creative way of transferring ownership. I don't know that Realtor.com has correct information. I'm not sure why they even had a listing unless it was to make it look like a real sale. Or Dia was going to sell it but then was able to the following. IF it was really a sale, it might have been a "sale" from Dia's trust to private ownership.
Could that potentially be a way for the trust to declare a big capital loss in 2020? So if the trust owned the ranch that was originally purchased for ~$1.5 million (cost basis), and then sold it to an individual for ~$250,000, that could translate into be a big tax deduction. Or the cost basis may be the value the ranch was assessed at when ownership was transferred into Dia's trust (from original ownership by Dia and/or her husband).
Alternatively, I don't know if it's possible to for the trust to sell one piece (building 1) of the property to an individual while leaving the remainder under the trust.

Apparently, it is not that easy to find people on the rugged hiking trails in Idyllwild.

He was from Ireland. Ran into unexpected snow in Idyllwild. "The 25-year-old was last heard from on April 7th 2017." Haven't they found his remains? Reading what his Mom is going through is painful.

Four of the six still missing.
This is an update for those joining in. Four people still missing.

This is just MOO, I tend to see Roy Prifogle and Rosario Garcia as being lost and stranded out on the trails.
It seems different with the other two. JMO, but with Lydia "Dia" Abrams
and Melissa Lane, I see more of a possibility for there being foul play involved. What do you think?

A compilation of news articles regarding her disappearance

Two of the six hikers missing in Idyllwild over the last five months have been found
41-year-old Melissa Lane was reported missing on June 15th around 9:20 a.m. heading to Idyllwild from Pine Cove. Her phone and her belongings were left behind at her boyfriend's house, according to her sister on a Facebook post. Her mother, tho nervous, is hopeful Lane will be found. She says, “I am very concerned and I miss you Melissa. I love you.”

Kathy Lamont last spoke with her daughter, Melissa Lane, 41, on June 8. She has been missing since about June 15 and is believed to have gone hiking – something she loved to do alone.

Lamont described her daughter, who lived in Pine Cove, as a loner who loved to hike.

As more people have learned of her daughter’s disappearance, Lamont said, she has been receiving lots of calls, but nothing that leads to Lane’s whereabouts.

“I’ve been praying day and night for her,” Lamont said, adding she has had three dreams recently her daughter is in trouble and screaming out for her.

She described her daughter as 5-foot-2 or 5-foot-3, petite with brownish/reddish hair.

“She looks like a petite little Irish girl,” Lamont said.

Lane doesn’t like carrying cell phones, so didn’t have one with her and usually doesn’t have a backpack when she hikes, her mother said.

“I have cried a river,” Lamont said and hopes if there is a connection between her daughter’s disappearance and the disappearance of the others still missing, investigators will find out soon before harm comes to anyone else.

Detectives investigate 6 missing person cases in and around Idyllwild
The mother of Melissa Lane, 41, reported her daughter missing on July 4 north of Pine Cove.

“She hasn't called anybody she knows. She just disappeared,” said her mother, who asked only to be identified by her first name, Kathy.

The mother said Lane exited a relative’s vehicle near the trailhead to Black Mountain Truck Trail, eight miles north of Idyllwild and she was never seen again.

“She hiked all over. She wasn't afraid of anything. She had no fear,” said the mother.

Kathy said she spent weeks looking for Lane.

“I think it’s a predator. They could be stealing people for the sex-slave trade or it could be a serial killer,” said Kathy.

The cases aren't at all related but the mention of Black Mountain Truck Trail immediately made me think of John Sturkie, a man from Oceanside who ended up getting his truck stuck up there. They recovered his remains months later.

It's hard to know whether Melissa met foul play or not. Sometimes seemingly healthy people end up having major and sudden unexpected health issues like brain aneurysms and heart attacks. Or sometimes hitting one's head during a fall (doesn't have to be a very big fall) will cause a small brain bleed that becomes bigger over time.
If Melissa was fearless it may be more likely that she could have met another hiker on the way who convinced her to go off the path with them, and was then killed and hidden in a very remote area.
If Roy put his backpack down he may not have been feeling well. He may have gone off for water like his daughter suggested but he may have died along the way. And then I guess an animal could have taken his remains.
And sometimes people pray without ceasing but God does not to choose to reveal the answer. I hope the families can find some peace despite the not knowing.

Appreciate your research, SoHelpMeGod. And your speculations. I don't know anything about trusts or real estate, but I would expect Dia has a lawyer who handles her affairs. Maybe we can figure out who that is, and if they have any ideas about what happened to her?

She would at least have a trust attorney and an accountant who is familiar with trusts. But even if we could figure out who they are (my guess would be in La Jolla) I doubt they would give out any information.

Re: Lydia Dia Abrams

So for clarity, because this has confused me:
-the Sheriff's missing persons flyer indicates the location Dia was last seen, but NOT the date & time of day
-per the reporter, the family has indicated that "she went missing from her secluded ranch on Apple Canyon Road in Mountain Center around 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6."
Friends and family of missing woman remain hopeful | Valley News

-Dia's fiance says he saw her for lunch (no time given) and "texted with her" around 4 pm.
Families want answers after 5 people go missing in Idyllwild area since March | KTLA

The Sheriff's flyer indicates Dia was seen "in the 58000 block of Bonita Vista". The ranch is at 58111 Bonita Vista. There don't seem to be any other structures there.
The flyer seems too vague to me. Does this mean Dia was seen outside the ranch, on the block, but the person(s) who saw her doesn't remember the approximate time let alone the date??
Or does this mean she was seen in the ranch by her fiance. The fiance would know what clothes she was wearing. So could someone who saw her outside of the ranch, but why no date and time??
How does the family know she went missing ~2:00?

Law enforcement would know if fiance Keith exchanged texts with Dia's phone. But was it Dia doing the texting, or someone else using her phone?

How would we find out Diana's last name? Diana, the Air BnB host/wedding venue contact. Who is she?

I agree re: Lydia and Melissa though IMO they don't seem to be connected.
