Superior Court Judge Sam Ohta heard the trial of Heather Maxine Barron and Kareem Ernesto Leiva after both sides waived their right to having the case heard by a jury, with closing arguments wrapping up Feb. 22.

I'm not sure if child abuse is statistically higher in the Antelope Valley but it certainly has had quite a few high profile cases!
ETA: I tried to dig through the LA County sites and can't find any indication of which LA county areas /cities have the highest numbers in regards to child abuse cases.

Oh no problem - I did not see the article when you actually posted it - but just this morning. And since the sentencing date wasn't posted by any of you - I thought I would post it - so reader's would know!
