Without looking through every thread Oriah, I think that may be a subject overlooked a little. I recall mentions of a junkyard and fruit stand I think, and believe they were searched. But no mention of storage facilities.

Now you mention it, it seems obvious. I know of at least two cases in recent years in England, where bodies were stored in lockups. Usually happens in built-up cities where places to hide a body are hard to find though?

It's certainly worth looking at mind you. If not Bob, something to help reveal what happened to him might turn up - tools, clutter and memorabilia can take up an awful lot of room in a person's house.

So we need some storage facilities that seem to fit into this loose timeline for that day, perhaps. Down to the SAR thread, lol.

I only thought it would take me a minute to look but there's loads of storage places out there! Wish I hadn't seen Oriah's post now. :)

I thought everybody had big houses and garages over your way anyhow? In fact, some of the garages I've seen are bigger than a tiny two up, two down in England: http://victorianexperience.tumblr.com/

What's going on with all the extra storage???

Your guess is as good as mine. In the case of the clean out of Bob's house, I cant imagine that anyone with a condo style home would have room for what was essentially the contents of two free standing houses-Monrovia and Placentia. So if you cant fit all of the memorabilia and furniture and luggage and dishes and linens and food and krugerands et al into your own house, it has to go somewhere. I mean, they had to hang onto it until the estate was completely audited and valued I would think. And you would have to produce it at any time until this thing runs its course. I think. But I dont know.

O/T but I have just heard terrible news here; 14 people have died and many more have been injured in a fire in a workshop - for the disabled - in the Black Forest. This is so awful for those poor people, and the firefighters who tried to save them. They are mostly volunteers here and will be completely heartbroken. I just hope all the injured will pull through.

I am so glad the people who want to save lives in this world outnumber the people who want to take lives away.

:( What terrible news zwiebel.

if I was looking for JuM, I would check her community's online message board. ;)

If she had a laptop, she could have logged in from anywhere that had a WiFi connection.

As I recall, many of the things on the list were supposedly loans to Bob. So the implication would be that the person who loaned the item to Bob would have a corresponding empty space in their own home where that item came from.

And since they were loans, they wouldn't be included in Bob's estate, would they? They would be considered, well, loans and not owned by Bob.

Have I mentioned recently that I know of this nice bridge in Brooklyn that might be for sale to the right buyer...?

Sh/e could. Anyone could I suppose. Very good thought. But wifi connects trace back through status, IP's and data load I think? I wonder if anyone checked this on any wifi enabled device Mr. Harrod may have had- or anyone who may have had a wifi enabled device who is close to the case?

BBM: maybe gitana could weigh in here? Not sure of the legal process. But isn't a loan of any property (as opposed to a lease of property) still first 'owned' by the owner? And then secondarily 'owned' by the lessee?

Wasn't the list a kind of mish-mash? Stuff that had been 'lent' and then stuff (classic car for AH, the bag with the thirty pieces of silv-gold, etc) that Bob had apparently said he wanted them to inherit from him.

Bob had a cell phone but apparently couldn't use it. There was a computer of some type in his house but of course it did not belong to him - it belonged to his grandson and has been taken back. I would certainly think at least grandson had a wi-fi enabled device, and at least one daughter too.

The fire - an explosion, huge fire in a workshop filled with high inflammables, and 50 people inside with mental and physical disabilities. Firefighters got almost every single one of them out, but 14 still died despite being rescued. Heroic doesn't cover it.

zwiebel, I am so so sorry for the loss in your country.
What a tragic situation. :)
I posted you a song in Mr. Harrod's SAR thread. My heart goes out to all who tried to help, and to all who lost their lives. :(

Oh no, that's horrible. God bless those brave souls!

Just to change the subject slightly, no offense to zwiebel, I think gridding out travel routes and the storage facilities for future SAR is a great plan. I mean not only could we get some of the non profits interested, I bet, I think maybe PPD would be interested in something like this that wont require a budget expenditure. We do it for lots of cases-it is time for Bob to be found I hope.

  • #1,017
Sorry believe09, what are the non-profits? Missing Person's charities?

  • #1,018
Anyway, whatever they are, I totally agree it is long past time for Bob to be found. It is also long past time for someone to come forward and tell what they know, or their suspicions. Before it is too late. I can't help feeling the least involved people/person in this will eventually end up shouldering most of the blame if they aren't careful. This case isn't going away.

I really hope that is not the case, because anyone who could do this to an 81 year-old-man, could do this to anyone. And needs locking up, IMO.

So, Is it reasonable to keep all options open - by that I mean, to consider ravines, dump sites, storage containers, fires, all along a single route? Or should there be one map and info for each? I'm asking here rather than the SAR thread, just so anyone who can't take on an entire area - but does feel able to chip in on certain aspects - can do so.

Hope that makes sense.

Non profit ie Not for Profit. Pro Bono, free...however you want to define it. There are a lot of SAR groups out there who are privately funded and dont need to access cash strapped departments for anything other than information. Many of these groups are LE themselves, so there isnt the same constraint that would hamper a civilian run group.

The more feet on the ground the better, just like the more attention this case gathers the better....it doesnt really matter if it is positive or negative attention. Just as long as people are talking and thinking and posting about Bob.

Okay, I'm there now. It was a bit confusing for me because the only charity SAR groups in England are for national and international emergencies, or mountain/sea rescue. It seems amazing to me that LE would actually help out with a private SAR operation - or even operate it themselves - but that's wonderful news. *It's still sinking in.*

In England you might well be arrested if you tried to do that in a possible murder enquiry, so I've been concerned about how it could actually be done, or permission could be granted. You don't know how glad I am to hear that if we can find the places, searches can definitely take place!
