TMZ senior news reporter Charlie Neff joins "Banfield" after talking with D4vd's friends, who say they knew Celeste Rivas Hernandez as his 19-year-old girlfriend. Rivas Hernandez's decomposed body was found inside D4vd's car and her cause of death remains a mystery.

''Friends who partied with and knew singer D4vd were under the impression Celeste Rivas was his girlfriend, and were shocked when news came out Celeste was only 14.

Sources who party in the L.A. music scene tell TMZ ... they saw D4vd and Celeste at parties and hangouts ... and it appeared to them they were a couple.''
''We're told some of them were under the impression she was a student at USC. The friends believed Celeste was around 19 years old and presented herself as such.''

''The people who are now buzzing about what they saw tell TMZ ... one of the reasons they thought she was over 18 was because she was hanging out at places that had age restrictions.

Another thing we're told ... D4vd's contemporaries who were at these parties and hangouts were shocked there was any remote connection between D4vd and Celeste's death -- something that has not been established as far as we know -- because his demeanor was "super shy, soft spoken and gentle."

It would help a lot if they mentioned WHEN they saw them together. Was it this year even?

'Celeste Rivas, the 15-year-old girl whose severely decomposed corpse was found in a Tesla registered to singer-songwriter D4vd, is seen on newly surfaced surveillance video running away from home last year.

Rivas is seen in footage from a local liquor store in Lake Elsinore, Calif., that was recorded around 7 a.m. on March 19, 2024. The clip, first published Friday by TMZ, shows a girl in a black hoodie and white pants, who was identified as Celeste by her family.
The young girl is seen walking quickly down the street and jogging around a corner before disappearing from view.'

Elie Naddaf, the owner of Dellago Spirits, told TMZ that Celeste’s sister came to his liquor store on March 19 of last year and asked to review the security tapes from that morning, confirming it was her sibling.

Any dispute on this?
April 2024... Celeste reported missing...again. She had never "run away" from home until her "internet, Fort Nite, Discord" D4VD pal
moved to California. (No doubt arriving in Cali with his newly acquired, Texas registered, black 2023 Tesla vehicle?)
Any dispute on this? Celeste started missing a lot of school.

Now my question: Wouldn't efforts to track or search for a truant student stop when school stopped /let out for the summer in the first week of June? I mean if school was on summer break, no one would be looking for her for at least 12 weeks, right? If a student doesn't enroll the next year, what steps (if any) are implemented? Does anyone show up at the student's home asking for follow up on the situation? Do the students/parents have the option for "online classes" even if the child is no longer living in the home? Is this considered an inter district transfer? I can see how vulnerable children can get lost in "the system."
I have been thinking for a long time how important the schools, teachers/counselors/coaches are in being the second line of safety for minors. and at-risk youths. I personally believe parents/caregivers (in a perfect world) would/should be the first line of safety.

Interesting to me that her sister went to the liquor store and asked to review the security tapes, not Celeste's parents.

If there has been no wrongdoing by him, all he has to do is tell the truth, and the investigation will validate him. He did something wrong, not necessarily murder. moo
We're all pretty sure there was wrongdoing by him, even if it was just the under age relationship part. Therefore, he can't be truthful, even if he had no hand in her death and disposal. Truth = sex offender at the very least if the relationship was of the romantic kind. MOO

This doesn’t look likeCeleste Rivas.
I'm not sure if it does or doesn't. The nose and lips appear similar, as does the hair, but the eyes look smaller. The cross around her neck is interesting as CR had a very similar one on in all her missing photos. Don't forget that all the Celeste Rivas pictures that were released were from about 18 months ago and teens change quickly. Where did you get this pic @PNW ? Do you know where it was taken and when?

I find it interesting that one of his songs is about killing a lover and putting her in a trunk.
It's life imitating art. You can't make this &#( up!

Very true. I think the sister went looking for footage the same day she disappeared, could she have been trying to track her down before alerting their mother to the news?

Do we know if there was a language barrier for her mother? There don't seem to be a lot of statements out there from her parent(s) - is her dad in the picture? It seems those fighting for her the most were her sister and brother.

Apparently the E-MAILS to J M(mgr) reveal he was informed. of CR's age. Man-oh-man... CR's family got someone to send information to JM. Hmmmm, the bracelet with the W or turn it upside down at it is an "M" .... yeah, yeah, yeah "I thought she was a 19 year old student at USC... really? What was her major...."undeclared" I'm sure.
In a way, I feel awful for JM...when you take on a 17 year old, up and coming performer that you just backed with a $3 million dollar contract....Do you bring them to LA? Assure the parents you will watch out for them, move in and be a full time babysitter?? Everyone is pointing a lot of fingers....D4VD was contacting minors via the internet from his parent's home, too. Not blaming, just pointing out the obvious. Adolescents can be really sneaky, wacky, confusing and even defiant....been that way through out modern history.
The blame game is in full force:
Parents blame the girl. Parents blame the boy. Parents blame the school. The school blames the parents. The public blames the parents. The siblings blame LE. LE blames D. His peers blame D. Parents blame the mgr. The public blames mgr, LE and the parents. The peers blame no one (lemmings?) because we all thought she was 19 years old....drum roll-eye roll.

Playing devils advocate here, but David is 20 and people supposedly believed Celeste to be 19. Regardless of how far back their relationship went, people allegedly believed there was only a year between them. Even a few years back they'd still be suitable ages to date each other, if you believed the year difference. 18 and 17, 16 and 15, whatever, it's certainly more acceptable for a younger teen to date someone just a year older. Everyone has their personal beliefs as to when teens should start dating, but keeping the ages close at that stage is important, due to maturity and experience levels.

None of the people in their inner circle are going to be honest and tell the truth about their understanding of her situation or her age. None of them will want to admit that they were complicit in any way. There's a lot of overlapping layers of competing interests among these people (on both sides) and for now, I'm taking every single thing they say with a large pinch of salt.

I'm also still not completely sold on the Celeste II explanation. "Look, she's a different Celeste, different age, different surname, move on" isn't quite enough to satisfy me. For someone so high profile in terms of involvement in this case, she's remarkably low key. Nobody knows who she is. Not really.

The life imitating art thing feels very limited and shallow to me, mostly because I don't think he's all that talented and his writing is horribly contrived. Actually, come to think of it, maybe trying to invoke his own 'work' is exactly the sort of self-indulgent posing that he would enjoy. Hmmm.

ADMIN NOTE:

The mention of "weed" was a mild opinion, not a fact, and not intended to become the focus of discussion or to derail the thread.

This thread is specifically dedicated to the horrific crime against a young girl found deceased in the trunk of a car.

You want to discuss the pros/cons of specific drugs, please take it to private conversations.

I agree. I can perhaps understand if those new to David's circle might have been under the impression she was 19, but those that have been there from the beginning must have known, or at least suspected. She might have acted, looked and sounded older, but she was still barely a teenager when she went missing. People must have at least had their doubts.

There is a possibility that the missing person report was potentially only submitted as a means of addressing school absence issues. To get the school off their backs for a bit. That could help to explain what feels like a very weird and casual vibe around the series of 'disappearances'.

Yeah, I don't believe their lack of curiosity for a second. Tweens and teens might be able to fake it or mask their true age in very short bursts but you don't need to spend much time with them before you pick up on all the signs and figure it out. Plus, it sounds like her age was an open sort of 'secret' among his fans, so his team will absolutely have known, and there would have been other weird ways to pick up on it too - they must have constantly been telling stories, telling lies and making excuses. Being weird about it, basically.

In the Steve Fischer interview with Ashleigh Banfield they say that the Tesla (which is a Model X despite previous reports saying it was a Model Y) was parked on Bloomberg St. Just 150 feet away from the house d4vd was living at. There was a previous report that said it smelled like there was a dead animal in the area.

In my school district, they offer online learning. So the student would stay in the same district but move to the online learning platform.

Involved teachers care and check up on those things. I’ve had our counselor do home visits as a last resort of sorts. I’ve also inquired about past and present students with worrisome situations to check and see what school they moved to.

Students are legally required to be enrolled in school. Unless families enroll in a new school, students will continue to be enrolled at their previous school.

Why is d4vd not in jail?

Welcome MollyB, That was really useful information! But, am I wrong in questioning whether or not one needed to look, per school district, for a student during the summer break?

Thanks! Im not entirely sure what you’re asking. Folks in charge of enrollment will be notified if a student moves schools or districts, and will then be removed from their enrollment. As people move and lives shift, some families do take care of enrollment over the course of the summer. However, typically it’s something that happens last minute, and primarily in the weeks before school starts. Oftentimes it happens after the school year begins. I had 36 students at the beginning of the year and over the first week or two, four students “dropped” as a result of finalizing transfers to another school. There is not a lot of action during the summer because most employees are off for around 2 months.

If something happened to a student in April, I see no reason why the necessary agencies weren’t contacted prior to the end of the school year. I am in Southern California as well. Our districts last day was June 12th last year. I’d have to check the calendar in her district to be sure, but I’d put money on her district finishing a week or two before ours. With all of the previous occurrences involving that student, it seems the school, or at the very least, the one teacher we have seen on video having been aware of Celeste’s situation, I would think her attendance would be a top priority for them. Truancy goes beyond the school or district. Parents can be fined and even jailed for habitually truant students over the age of 6. I’m not sure (thank god) about students’ attendance with a formal missing persons report filed with police but below is the CA Dept. of Education truancy law.

Penalties (Student)

The law provides schools and school districts with discretion regarding student penalties for truancy as long as they are consistent with state law. The penalties for truancy for students defined in EC Section 48264.5 become progressively severe from the first time a truancy report is required through the fourth time a truancy report is required.

(Amended by Statutes 2022, Chapter 301, Section 11. [SB 1057] Effective January 1, 2023.)

California (Parents)

Penalties against parents apply when any parent, guardian, or other person having control or charge of any student fails to compel the student to attend school. The penalties against parents in EC Section 48293(a) become progressively severe with a second and third conviction.

Gruesome question, and I REALLY don't want to Google, but what is the decomposition process of a human body? As in at what point does it start to smell, and what point has the smell disappeared because there's nothing left that's able to rot? 😢

1. Within a day or two, depending on the weather, an odour will be noticeable.

2. Up to years. Decomposed remains, even skeletonised, will retain an odour. But it does depend on conditions like temperature, humidity, whether they are dessicated or have been buried, etc. how pronounced that odour will be. A fresh body (weeks to months) in a car trunk in a car parked in the sun in LA? Yeah, it's going to be very noticeable. Even if the car is sealed up tight.
