GUILTY CA - Brock, 42, & Davina Husted, 42, pregnant, murdered, Faria Beach, 3 June 2009

Dateline is featuring this case tonight. It's already started; I just found it.

I watched this Dateline episode last night and am still amazed that this 20-yr displayed this much rage and violence toward apparent strangers. It really seemed a very personal kind of crime.

The Dateline show also profiled the other murder nearby of Wendy DiRodio and her lifestyle could have led her to meet some strange men. She had a thing for men from Brazil and was meeting them online. She had several short-term relationships and had just entered into a new one online recently. I don't know if all of them have been ruled out. But she was in an upstairs bedroom in her parents home-you would think you would be pretty safe up there, and her mom is very elderly and did not hear a thing. I do hope they can make an arrest in this case as well.

Very scary stuff for such a beautiful area...I lived in SoCal throughout my 20's and miss it terribly...

I'd never heard about this...how horrific for these children!!

I'm confused by this part of the Fox link that waltzingmatilda posted:

"The boy gave detectives a detailed description of the suspect's clothing and said the suspect was a dark-skinned African American with blue eyes and a deep voice. Packer is white, but authorities maintain the suspect was wearing a motorcycle helmet."

Huh? I totally understand that the boy would have been confused in all the fear and chaos (and trying to hide)...but his description of the perp is soooo far off that it's really puzzling.

At first I believe reports had the child saying the intruder was in all black clothing... nothing about African American. I guess the helmet could have been tinted, but I'm not sure of the difference in reports.

Poor kid. How horrible.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but can a dark-skinned African-American have blue eyes?

  • #271
Yes, and all colors in between. Usually they are light-skinned though.

From links I have read the helmet was found with the suspect or during a seach of his property. Also there was DNA evidence from a robbery which connected him to the crime via the helmet DNA. I apologize that I don't have links available, (I fled inland to my DD's to avoid 'Earl" and I just returned home.) There is a link to the robbery a page or two back if anyone wishes to search. Also another link suggested that the perp wearing the helmet affected the child's perception or something like that because he was dressed in all black. Sorry, i don't have time to search right now since returning home but I will look later and try to help put this all together.

Bear in mind that these reported facts are from recently released search warrants. I am being honest here, I didn't follow this case early on but when I saw this story, I searched WS and linked it.

Thanks and MOO,

wm

He may have very well been also wearing black leather motorcycle gloves that could have added to the confusion. Combined with the black helmet, I can easily see how the boy could have assumed in the panic of the moment.

<<He also said his parents made the robber promise not to hurt him or his 11-year-old sister, who was sleeping, and the man agreed.<<

Thank you WM for posting that link : )

I had many theories on this case, but I did not feel the killer was a stranger. That this man randomly chose their home makes this crime all the more horrifying. I hope the children are able to heal. Rest in peace Brock and Davina.

Joshua Graham Packer showed up for work as a security guard the day after Brock and Dvina were killed last year looking uncharacteristically disheveled, with a gash on his hand, co-workers told detectives.

He said he had been in a motorcycle crash, but his co-workers joked “with Packer about him being the person involved with the murders at Faria Beach,” a sheriff’s deputy wrote in an affidavit supporting a search warrant served on Packer.

“(A co-worker said) Packer didn’t noticeably respond to the comments,” the deputy wrote.

Packer, 20, was arrested 11 months later and charged with the stabbing deaths of the Husteds and their unborn child. The stabbings occurred May 20, 2009.

DNA found underneath Brock Husted’s fingernails and on a motorcycle helmet visor left at the crime scene linked Packer to the stabbings, according to the affidavit.

Interesting comment from FormerRes ...

From the same link above: He owed a former girlfriend money for his motorcycle and she was the one who bought him that black helmet. He talked of buying another motorcycle to co-workers. Also LE found books on murders and serial killers, ect in his home.

You are welcome Knox! I'm late coming into this sad case. those poor children!!!!! i cannot imagine the horror those young ones went through.

~respectfully snipped~

Also LE found books on murders and serial killers, ect in his home.

collette, I pray that I am never investigated in a murder case. My google searches for cases here on WS would certainly raise suspicion, kinda funny but not really, LOL!

This case intrigues me, it seems very similar to the Omaha Double Murders that we also follow. I sure wish LE could solve that one!

I went back and read the FA case briefing on Brock and Davina's murder. Tuba described this suspect as a 'fiend'. I think Packers mug shot fits this description. MOO.

I just received a google alert on this case....

The District Attorney announced today that they will seek the death penalty in this case. Good thing. (IMO)
