I don't know if this has been addressed or not or even if it matters, but there are no red lights or lenses on the front of the car. They are red on the back. jmo

I NEVER thought of that. That would probably mean the glass is from the accident (back window) and that he likely did not push it out with the emergency tool!!

Just requested to be verified as a local volunteer myself BTW

Still catching up so I don't know if this has been already posted but that is a photo of the dirt directly next to the asphalt on the Main Boat Launch road (I saw an identical photo of the same thing only of a larger area and you could also see the asphalt butting up to that dirt.)

just out of curiousity - why would anyone need permission to search? isn't it at a public place?

  • #826
I don't buy this theory because he could have easily taken his cell phone out of the car and dumped it- even in the lake. The cell phone only pings a 1 mile radius from the nearest cell tower of that carrier where it receives a call or a call is placed when the phone is on. It's not like a tracking system.

I believe he had an iPhone. If I am correct, and he had an iCloud account (which most do if they have an iPhone) his phone could be tracked with a lot more accuracy than that from a simple computer (I know because I am able to track my teenage kids by simply logging into our family iCloud account.)

I suppose LE looked into whether all the debris / red and clear glass was from the Toyota Highlander that was found at the crash site, whichever location it was? Was the glass / debris swept into that pile at the location of the photo. I agree with other posters that a photo of the crash scene with the car would be extremely helpful.

Out here we don't have a clean up crew. Usually the tow truck companies do this. I've been to multiple accident scenes in this area and it's always the tow truck drivers cleaning it up. So I'm not so sure it was swept up, it may have just looked like that.

Gator-I didn't see anything about permission for searching...? What were you referring to?

5:30AM Friday, August 30, 2013, a 9-1-1 call was made by a person who reported a vehicle accident on the Castaic Lake Main Ramp Road. The official sunrise was 6.37 am. If the SUV was not on the road, how would it be seen in the dark that early in the morning?

I think Gator was referring to your post stating you contacted Dragracerz and he stated you had permission to search (or something to that effect, I am going off of memory.)

I believe this was why Yellow Camaro stated that he believed the vehicle landed on it's tail first - all the glass & broken tail lights. It was then surmised that the rear window broke on it's own from the fall. But Dragracerz came on later & said that LE had said the vehicle definitely came down nose first.

So given all that, it leads me to ask is the broken glass / tail lights even from Bryce's SUV or some other incident? How could LE be certain it went down nose first if it rolled so far down to the bottom of MR Rd? A roll that far would likely create pretty significant injuries. BUT if it only went 15' down to a ditch like area & stopped, much easier to say it went nose first & rolled to land on the passenger side.

Also remember, no airbag deployment (IIRC). So it COULDN'T have hit the bottom of the hill nose first whether it started out that way or not.

Also, it had to be pretty accurate anyway. How else would they have located him the first time with the ping if it wasn't accurate? Dragz told us the ping's are to the nearest location, or known address, when we asked about Buttonwillow, I assume the same would apply to the ping.

When I use Sprint Family Locator, the same applies. It goes by the nearest address it can find. If it can't find an address, it shows you a parameter of a mile around the nearest address it pings off. This has happened even when I have the GPS feature (also known as "location" on some phones) completely turned off. Therefore, it is to my belief and understanding that now a days phones are able to be tracked much easier than you think.

Find my Iphone is a big one, Sprint Family Locator, Verizon Child Tracker, etc. There's also tons of app's that also do this.

Where is the vehicle now? Was it released back to the Laspisa's? LE had finished processing the vehicle, correct? If it was released back to the Laspisa's, is it in a junk yard now? Assuming its totaled of course..

Can't it have gone down nose first and then hit the ground tail first? Maybe both accounts are correct. It definitely only went down 15', I was standing there.

If it went down nose first slightly toward its side, when it rolled it could have come down hitting the back, which also explains why very little damage was done to brush. It likely only rolled twice (once coming off the site, and then once when the impact happened).

ETA: The second roll being, it hit the ground on its tail and then rolled to the side, it's final resting spot.

RE: the use of the word "permission" the reason this was stated was that we have no reason to believe that Bryce is in Buttonwillow currently. Therefore it is a recon mission so to speak, trying to retrace his steps, and question people. Whenever you are getting involved in a investigation, it is in my opinion proper to get permission from the family to be questioning others in connection with the incident. Especially if a PI was going to come in, it could cause people to not want to speak up twice. Dragz at this point agrees that Buttonwillow could be a source of knowledge and therefore agreed to let us go out there and question people on whether or not they saw anything.

With what Riverking and you are saying, I still cannot tell if he was attempting to access the Main Ramp Road (for whatever reason) and suddenly discovered too late that it was too steep, was attempting to create a crash scene for diversion, or was hiding behind the cell tower and went to pull out and things went very wrong....

Thanks to our locals for volunteering to get out there. It'd be a bit of a commute for me, but I'm with you in spirit. I hope it's a fruitful mission.

I am not necessarily sure what riverking is saying is 100% what happened, since I didn't see it happen. So I am only stating facts here, which are, it only was a 15' foot drop, which in essence is what the news said. He is stating that it never hit the ground, which now we see based on the pictures of it being so close to the roadway doesn't seem plausible. For the tail lights to be broken out it had to have eventually made impact on its tail, it can't be suspended for that to happen or stuck.

ETA: I meant to say roadway not freeway, ignore that.

This is awesome! I wish I had the time and money to fly out and join you. I would love to search for tracks at the lake as on some occasions I can still find and follow very old tracks. In the mean time, I will be hanging on your every report! :)
