Thoughts:

If sleep deprived and on drugs, he may have hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, hence the mounds of dirt behind the tire marks.

If sleep deprived, on drugs, and just coming out of a potentially very serious accident, what is the likelihood off him navigating a dam successfully?

Could he be in the lake?

Just today there was an accident here where a driver went through the front of an aged care home due to hitting the accelerator instead of the brake.
Could also have been that the car was in D instead of R.
Just found this while searching - not beyond realms of possibility that the accelerator was the problem - seems it is a known problem in Toyotas and there are a multitude of lawsuits about it.

This complaint was for the same make and model (2003)- which is not on official recall list.

ON 7-11-13, GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON ROUTE 52 IN NORTH CAROLINA, THE THROTTLE BECAME STUCK WIDE OPEN CAUSING MY CAR TO ACCELERATE BEYOND MY CONTROL. I SLOWED DOWN TO GET OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR, ONLY SLOW IT DOWN .....

A year after its "unintended acceleration" trouble began, Toyota today is announcing that it's going to expand its recall of floor mats to include nearly 2.2 million more Lexus and Toyota vehicles in the U.S. The mats can jam against accelerator pedals -- causing so-called pedal entrapment. The company calls the recalls "voluntary," but federal regulators say they requested them.
The recalls show that Toyota is still bedeviled by issues surrounding unintended acceleration, which last year resulted in the recall of hundreds of thousands of cars to replace floor mats that can jam against accelerator pedals or to replace pedal mechanisms that can stick.

I believe they have ruled out the lake. They did extensive searches and believe his body would have surfest because of the heat.

Ruled out means absolutely nothing to me. Bodies are missed all the time. That's a big lake. IIRC i remember just seeing one boat and a couple of divers. Thats not much equipment. People throw, ditch stuff and fall into that lake when boating that he could have snagged on.

There were food / gas purchases made in Rocklin but the details from the charges don't give time of purchase just when charge was completed
I wonder when/where BL last gased up before running out of gas in Buttonwillow?

Or time/date of any/all purchases made from Chico to Rocklin to Buttonwillow?

[Doesn't make sense to me that family can't get actual time of purchases made by BL.?.?]

"I still remain hopeful that he is out there somewhere trying to get home, and I really hope that he will just show up or call anybody." KS gave authorities some of her boyfriend's dirty clothes in hopes the dogs would locate the scent.

In researching Port Orford, it looks one of the few ways to gain more traction could be through the Chamber of Commerce. I have sent a detailed message to them and asked them to visit the Find Bryce FB page. I specifically asked how we can get the word out more effectively, and noted that someone is removing the "Missing" posters from local businesses. I made a plea that will hopefully resonate with someone there, including a bit about the accident, the head trauma and the blood discovered. I will update here if I receive a response.

Have not received any email replies as yet, so tried to call, got a busy signal, no voice mail. Will keep you posted and will try again...

For those of you that have done SAR. What do you think of this area? It's a wash that starts right near the entrance to the lake and goes down along the 5. It's got some soft sand but also some trees and brush. Some of the area is flat but there are some drains and uneven parts. I overlook it every getting off the freeway at Hasley Cny and It's always intrigued me. I would assume they searched it but maybe not since they were so concentrated on the lake.

Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm..." - for some reason, that looks like an area that should be searched. Does anyone know exactly where searches have been conducted? IIRC, there was a map...? Thanks, SCV_E!

I'm wondering the same thing. Maybe Dragz would know if there is a map. I noticed on the post Jonny Rockets post from FB that people that want to become a volunteer are welcome to the luncheon. Maybe that means they are still doing foot searches around here and the lake.

Here is a new theory that hasn't been talked about. CA has lots of crime, murderers, sex offenders etc. serial killers etc. This is what led my husband and I to this possibility.

Bryce could have managed to have to get to the road. I would have imagined after the Vyanese and the accident his was quite dazed, disoriented, confused and not in a very good state of mind which could have made him vulnerable, a target for some psychopath, crazy, sex offender driving along who might have offered him a lift. Bryce is a nice looking guy and might have really stood out to a psycho who was looking for a victim. Bryce could be being held with someone against his will or Killed and was dumped or buried somewhere.

Remember the notorious William Bonin the CA killer (freeway killer)? He picked up and brutally tortured, raped, sodomized, killed 21 boys and young men up to age 19 who were hitchhiking or walking to their destination on the CA freeways.

William Bonin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://crime.about.com/od/serial/a/william_bonin.htm

I checked CA Megan's Law website their are 10 registered sex offenders near Castaic Lake 91384. You can click on the blue dots on the map to see the offender profile and charges. These offenders almost always reoffend. I wonder if LE has made contact with them. Bryce could be being held hostage in one of their locations. Maybe they could bring scent dogs.

I know I keep referencing the KFI John and Ken interview with KL (link below.) It has a lot of information in it (air bags, break up, timeline info.) It is worthwhile to listen to.

http://m.kfiam640.com/articles/local-news-465708/castaic-body-update-11628535/

Wow, so much excellent information. Karen is a real hero, conveying the info so clearly, broke my heart to hear the pain. After listening to all of that interview, what struck me again was the "sitting in the car" scenario. IMO, it sounds like he sat in his car for hours, "chilling" - in which case running engine for A/C ran the gas down. Run a car for hours, that will happen. Absolutely no drugs or alcohol in the vehicle, per Karen's report from the LE, and LE spent 20 minutes with Bryce and detected nothing out of the ordinary. He was fine, just hanging out... So I come back to the start of everything, tie this with the fact that concerned friends took his car keys. And I sense/ guess/ hypothesize that Bryce suffered some sort of breakdown or the onset (as has been suggested) of schizophrenia which most often manifests around Bryce's age. But this is still to me an extreme theory. The strong intention to break up with his gf is clear. Broke up with her twice, the second time in person, and even told Mom. This may or may not indicate an underlying psychological issue. Couple this with his roomie's comments, and most likely he just wanted to clear his head, his life and find his way... some sort of major life decision. What changed his plans - intentional or not - was the car accident. Potential head trauma there shifted what was simply a "life decision" quest to something totally derailed and off track. I see "BC" before crash as explainable. I see "AD" after departure from the vehicle as a huge mystery. I would love to see more dog searches in more areas around the lake and gully. Of course, all of the above is JMO, IMO, MHO... :moo:

OMG, just looked at FB profile of KA, the young fisherman from OR.
Side on, he's Bryce's twin. As someone said, he even has a large tatt, but on the other arm.

ETA: How far is Astoria from Port Orford?

It's a little over 6 hours. One post on the FIND FB page said this was the fisherman kid that was sighted. But just about 20 minutes ago, for what its worth, someone who has friends in common with that redhead posted an update, saying essentially that the FB friends messaged she thinks the fisherman guy has NOT been in Port Orford in the last month and sent a pic of him in Astoria from Sept 29th. This was just forwarded to the Laspisa's.
Maybe something will come from this clarification and sleuth of the sighting. It is either a red herring (No Pun Intended!!) or is something that could crack the case! It is one or the other, right? I am not going to vote on this, tho' ;)

That would be great news if he hasn't been there for a month. Fingers crossed and all. Surely there can't be another Bryce lookalike. It's a process of elimination isn't it.

The important thing is, as his uncle has rightly said, to keep the matter fresh in the media and in the public arena.
:candle:

UPDATE: Posted by Dragracerz 5 minutes ago on FB - he just spoke to K.A. - the fisherman. He has NOT been in Port Orford, OR, in over a month. :)

UPDATE!! I contacted the Port Orford Chamber, nice gal answered, we talked for a long time. She had not ever seen the prior email I sent, so I forwarded to her as we spoke. She had no idea there were sightings or even a missing person potentially in the area. After a bit, she did recall a news story, after seeing the Find Bryce page - she said, Oh, I remember that. She ALSO RECALLED SEEING A DISTINCTIVE LOOKING YOUNG MAN WITH RED HAIR, DIRTY, WALKING THROUGH TOWN. This was a couple of days ago! She is notifying all of the merchants via email, sending story and links, and asking all of them to LOOK FOR BRYCE, PRINT THE POSTERS AND POST THEM IN THEIR WINDOWS. I have notified via message to Brian/ Laspisa family through FB, and included phone and names, etc. The gal was very, very nice, and lives not far from a homeless food bank location, so will watch for Bryce there as well. She said he was distinctive looking and that is why she noticed him! :please:

Here goes a first post. I am finding this to be very intriguing. Specifically the time line. From the time BL left Chico to the time the car was discovered at Castaic, there is roughly 20 hours unaccounted for. That is a lot of time to sort things/plan things out. Do we know how many gallons of gas were in the car when it was found? I think this is important information to determine how far he actually drove the car after refueling.

IMHO, I think BL is laying low with the help of friends. I think the car crash was an unexpected event tied to the laying low plan.

11:30 p.m. Wednesday - Bryce Laspisa leaves Chico, according to his girlfriend, Kim.

9 a.m. Thursday - Bryce runs out of gas near the Buttonwillow Rest Area, west of Bakersfield, according to his mother. Calls roadside assistance?

In rough mileage it is 349 miles and five hours of travel why did it take 9.5 hours? 4 hours unaccounted for._________________________________________________________________

Noon Thursday - a roadside assistance serviceman named Christian delivers three gallons of gasoline to Bryce, according to a $20 credit card purchase for the fuel. “He’s not answering his phone (at this time),” his mother said.

9AM-12PM 3 hours unaccounted for._________________________________________________________________
12:30 p.m. Thursday - Karen Laspisa calls serviceman Christian and asks about her son. He tells her he appears “OK” but adds: “His eyes look a little red.” Bryce does not answer his cell phone.

9 p.m. Thursday - responding to a call from the mother, CHP officers stop and search Bryce’s car spotted on Lagoon Drive in Buttonwillow. “Something happened in the whole 10 hours he was around there,” she said.

12:30 PM-9 PM 8.5 hours unaccounted for._________________________________________________________________
Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday - Karen speaks to her son on the phone and asks: “What are you doing?” His response, she said, is: “I’m going to hang with friends later.”

11 p.m. Thursday - Bryce tells his mother he’s buying a beverage at a gas station. A purchase is made for $1.71, she said. Valero
11:00 PM-ish Purchased $39.50 worth of gas at Shell. (Thread 5 page 4 #95)

9:00 PM-11:00 PM 2 hours unaccounted for._________________________________________________________________
Now has roughly 14 gallons of gas in the car.
Shortly after midnight Thursday - “He tells me he’s on the I-5 south but he’s telling me nothing,” she said.
1:50 a.m. Friday - Bryce, by phone, tells her he “had detoured off I-5 but was back on the I-5.”

2:08 a.m. Friday - Karen Laspisa talks to her son for the last time. He tells her his GPS tells him he will arrive in Laguna Niguel in three hours and 25 minutes. “He told me ‘I got off the I-5 and I’m in a suburban area. I’m going to sleep in my car,’”

This is odd. On I-5 south Three hours 25 minutes to Laguna Niguel would put him at the Avenal cut-off, which is 45 minutes north of Button Willow. "I am going to sleep in my car". Does this rule out that he slept in a Hotel?

11:00 PM-2:08 PM 3 hours unaccounted for.

Between 2:08 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday - Bryce makes three trips to the crash site – the last trip ending with the crash, according to what his mother described as surveillance footage captured by cameras set up near Castaic Lake.

5:30 a.m. Friday - CHP officers locate his overturned SUV on a paved access road that leads to the Castaic Lake Main Boat ramp, at the bottom of a 15-foot ravine, on its side, with its rear window smashed. Although he left the valuables – laptop, cell phone and wallet – a duffle bag is found at the rear of the car and zipped open, prompting investigators to suspect he took something from it.

Best I can calculate, from the turn-around attempt spot at the NW side of the tower, it is 300+- feet away (as a crow flies) from where the car stopped on the road below.

Snipped for space - just a note to clarify on the BBM item above - IIRC that was later corrected to mean 3:25 AM - somewhere one of the news reporters picked it up wrong. Hope that helps a little bit....
