Bob Lee murder suspect Nima Momeni's life was 'unravelling' - with his tech business struggling

  • Anonymous former friends and exes described him as erratic, drug abuser
  • He also allegedly owned weapons, pushed boundaries with sex workers
  • Multiple ex-girlfriends accused him of abusive behavior; his attorney denies
I had been wondering if NM was using drugs, himself, because he did a terrible job at commiting murder. He allowed himself to be caught on camera with the victim, his sister knew he was with the victim, he left Bob Lee alive and able to call 911. It wasn't a spur of the moment attack since he brought a knife with him, so I don't understand how he thought he was going to get away with it.

Lee's wife, Krista Lee, told the Journal that although they were separated, the two were close and she was unaware of why he would be described by others as a "party boy," noting at most she thought he may have been microdosing ketamine to treat depression.

Friends and coworkers told the Journal that while Lee was intelligent and serious about his work, he also enjoyed partying and took drugs while attending raves across the globe.
I guess he minimized it when talking with his ex-wife so she didn't restrict his access to the kids.

That's totally conjecture. You make it sound like Bob Lee had a "secret life." I think his ex knew him pretty well and they had a good relationship. Also, do we know if Bob Lee had custody of the children or not? I thought MSM had reported that he moved to Florida with his children and father.

BL probably had joint custody with his wife (not heard they were actually divorced just living separate lives) of the two children. The wife said she had moved with the kids to Florida too.

Your reasoning makes perfect sense. NM was sloppy about what he did and now is trapped in the documented facts. It is very likely he was also on some drug. It looks like an impulsive crime, but like you say he "brought the knife" and it was a kitchen knife.

Admittingly, I don't know much about this case or the people yet, but after reading the news article got interested in what all the smart and savvy members on WS have to say about it.

"Khazar Momeni's brother Nima Momeni, who is jailed in San Francisco and has not yet been arraigned, was a drug user himself but not a member of the exclusive group, according to the report."

[...]

The court filings unveiled earlier this month also reveal that police recovered the suspected murder weapon, a bloody 4-inch kitchen knife, discarded near the crime scene.

Oh, this news article has lots of details. Thanks. That's what I mean, if you want the details, head to WS.

There is a lot of "blaming the victim" going on in the media, with details about Mr. Lee's "lifestyle." Bob Lee is the victim here, and his lifestyle is not on trial. The person who stabbed Bob Lee in the heart and left him on the street to die is the only one on trial here. I hope Bob Lee's family will get an attorney/family representative who can speak out for them on behalf of Mr. Lee and make it clear what a good and decent man he was. And that his life was snuffed out by Nima Momeni.

I think Nima did not expect any cameras in that secluded area of the town. He somewhat planned the murder and hence he got of the car first before stabbing Bob. It is somewhat shocking that Bob lee was able to stumble around and call 911 after being stabbed the way he did. There is no way out for Nima now.

Please know this is MOO. I don't see it as victim blaming. No need for judgements, but I don't see why media should gloss over the fact of lifestyles. Media is just pointing out that both the victim and the suspect probably had drugs in their systems when this altercation took place. Yes, the victim has drugs in his system. However, media seems to be reporting that NM, the suspect, was a cocaine addict undergoing big personality changes and having erratic, changing behavior, which carries more weight as to why this crime might have been committed. All the facts matter. In a trial, certainly these facts will probably come out.

"The 43-year-old tech titan's autopsy revealed he had cocaine, ketamine and alcohol in his system when he was stabbed multiple times in a San Francisco parking lot in April. Lee also had the anti-allergy drug levocetirizine in his system. According to the Mayo Clinic, that drug can have bad reactions with alcohol and ketamine."

Do we know for sure NM brought the knife? I have been waiting to hear if that is true. Many keep one in their car.

No one said any positive words about NM other than his defense attorney PC. NM may have been jealous of his sister's relationship with BL, but perhaps with any woman. NM possibly insecure and jealous of BL and his success.
Of course, speculation and not fact.

I guess I assumed he brought it because of reports of a kitchen knife being found at the scene. I personally have never known, or heard, of anyone keeping a kitchen knife in their car but maybe it is something people do.

Nima Momeni pleaded not guilty but the SF judge on the case refused to allow for his release.

Prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk and revealed on Thursday that he was not a citizen of the U.S.

The judge said that while Momeni did not appear to be a flight risk, he could pose a threat to the community and ruled that Momeni remain in jail without bail.

Interesting, the Judge didn't think he was a flight risk, but a possible threat to the community so denied bail. I wonder what NM's attorney will say now that the Judge in this case considers her client to pose a threat to the community.

Wow, this is a great showing of Bob Lee's friends, family, and colleagues. So glad to see it.

Did the judge schedule the next court date?

Canny, additionally, confirmed that Momeni’s phone was not in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Snip

It is still unclear what, if anything, was done with Momeni’s phone in the nine days between Lee’s killing in the early morning of April 4 and Momeni’s arrest on April 13. After his arrest, his phone was turned over to the police, according to Canny.

Snip

The rest of Momeni’s family and other ancillary witnesses have also lawyered up.

His mother Mahnaz Tayarani Babai is represented by well-known criminal defense attorney Randy Knox, who she hired after her son’s arrest. And Momeni’s sister and brother-in-law, Khazar Momeni and Dino Elyassnia, are, according to multiple sources, represented by Ed Swanson and Mary McNamara. It is unclear when they were hired.

I wonder why NM's mother needs an attorney. Also, surprised to see that the sister and her husband both are being represented by the same attorneys (if they are).

And wonder who is footing the bill for all the family attorneys, so far one for NM, one for the mother, and one or two for KM and DE. JMO, that DE is footing the bill. At least for now . . .

Interesting about the phone. Forensics on the phone should be telling. Sounds like he or others may have tampered with evidence regarding the missing phone that eventually showed up.
