Somehow I doubt that either of those injured ladies bore a resemblance to the reported 270-pound dude. I guess it's possible.

Were they told to stop and drop before getting fired on?

I don't know. I can;t say we simply accept collateral damage but there are a lot of scared cops and civilians out there because of this nut.

Also, I know people who fought in Iraq and I asked them about civilians who get killed because they refuse to stop. I was told they are told to stop in Arabic and with hand signals, etc., but many still don't and it is unlikely that all were out to do harm to the soldiers.

I think people can get confused or in a state of shock or something and ignore clear signals to stop. I'm not sure why.

And while this needs to be investigated and anyone who didn't follow protocol fired immediately, I am more concerned about the nut who INTENDS to kill who may still be running around my neck of the woods.

They have investigators there now, and are moving very cautiously. Working on assumption Dorner is in the area.

Weather will get nasty tonight; snow is expected in that area tonight.

Heavily forested area. Lots of places to hide.

Gitana, I don't believe he's in it...if it is his truck, he's holing up in one of the cabins that are vacant...and there may be some difficulty in figuring out where he is. Or he stole/jacked another car and is on his way outta the area.

He's not going to kill himself...he's gonna die by LE. I don't think he will be taken alive.

And he may be switching plates frequently.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Thousands of police officers throughout Southern California and Nevada hunted Thursday for a disgruntled former Los Angeles officer wanted for going on a deadly shooting rampage that he warned in an online posting would target those on the force who wrong him, authorities said.

Authorities issued a statewide "officer safety warning" and police were sent to protect people named in the posting that was believed to be written by the fired officer, Christopher Dorner, who has military training. Among those mentioned were members of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty," said the manifesto.

Dorner has available multiple weapons including an assault rifle, said police Chief Charlie Beck, who urged Dorner to surrender.

"Nobody else needs to die," he said.

More than 40 protection details were assigned to possible targets of Dorner. Police spokesman Cmdr. Andrew Smith said he couldn't remember a larger manhunt by the department.................

Beck detailed Dorner's alleged crimes in an usual press conference in an underground room at police headquarters, where extra security was deployed. The chief said there had been a "night of extreme tragedy in the Los Angeles area" and that all measures were being implemented to ensure officer safety.

Police said Dorner, 33, implicated himself in the couple's killings with the multi-page "manifesto."

A Facebook post believed written by Dorner said he knew he would be vilified by the LAPD and the news media, but that "unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name.".................

"We're asking our officers to be extraordinarily cautious just as we're asking the public to be extraordinarily cautious with this guy. He's already demonstrated he has a propensity for shooting innocent people," said Smith, the LAPD commander..........more.........

Which, if true, must be where he is. Unless he has an accomplice. Or has carjacked his way out.

I don't know what those ladies' first language is (nor the LE officers'). But they were delivering a newspaper. As I said before, I don't have all the info. I would *hope* that in a tense situation like this one, people weren't just shot cuz they drove up to an LE captain's house to deliver the newspaper. Maybe an unpopular opinion on this board, but I would sue to the max.

I think it goes without saying that I'm ultra concerned about the murderer on the loose. Even tho he isn't (apparently) in my neck of the woods.

I really hope that everyone who was too quick on the trigger finger will be prosecuted to the max. Firing on someone without being sure it's the target person (perp)? That said, I'm basing this on posts about what may have happened.

How very easy for us to say. Did you see what the suspect wrote in his manifesto about anyone apprehending him in a traffic stop? These policemen are likely terrified.

Tons of LE/Manpower heading to Big Bear. LE stationed at all turnouts on roads heading up to area, full gear and helmets. Reporters stating many LE cars and trucks flying past him, and many helicopters.

(me) looks like this is his truck, and they believe he may be in the Big Bear area.

KCAL9 has a live feed from Heli.

Reporting that Big Bear is having "Law Enforcement Day" and/or a convention for LE in Big Bear.

This is making sense - target rich environment.

ETA: Officers in fatigues are near helicopter landed near a house in Big Bear. They are in full tactical gear, helmeted, looks like 8. They are getting into the helicopter right now. Adding: Sheriff's office is the fatigued/tactical officers. Heli is a Huey, and is airborne now

All fatigued officers are in the helicopter now, and it looks like the chopper is about to take off again.
