Homemade silencer emphasized in Haobsh trial - Santa Barbara News-Press

Nov. 9, 2021

Public defender Michael Hanley made prosecutors snap upright at a request during Monday’s proceedings in the trial of Pierre Haobsh. Mr. Hanley wanted a witness to unseal the suspected murder weapon and attempt to attach it to a hex nut of an apparent homemade silencer.

Prosecutor Hilary Dozer immediately objected, saying he didn’t want evidence manipulated.

“This may be an ‘If the glove don’t fit, you must acquit’ moment, but I’m not comfortable,” he said.
[.....]
Mr. Barber was dismissed at the end of the day. The trial will resume Friday [11/12/21] morning.

Thanks @Niner. We've seen it all at trials in change of appearance. I guess they allow inmates to dye their hair in jail awaiting trial. He was going for the beachy, soft not a killer look. ;)

Could be gray instead blonde.... no hair coloring, unless you use shoe polish....

  • #285
Well, looking at the pics I posted, that is blonder and definitely not gray hair. I think shoe polish would run. MOO, nothing helps that guy's looks.

I haven't seen Lori Daybell, but I wonder if her hair dye is allowed in Idaho?

Trial for Triple-Murder Suspect Pierre Haobsh Hears Testimony From Expert Witness

Nov. 12, 2021
As the trial against triple-homicide suspect Pierre Haobsh continues in Santa Barbara County Superior Court, the court heard testimony on Friday from lead investigator Sgt. Travis Henderson, an expert witness who described Haobsh’s cellular activity and web searches, and a civilian witness who had been in the Han residence just hours after their murders took place.

In the days following the discovery of the bodies of Dr. Weidong “Henry” Han, 57; his wife, Huijie “Jenny” Yu, 29; and their 5-year-old daughter, Emily, a search warrant of Haobsh’s Oceanside home at 1228 Sunglow Drive led investigators to find copper caps, stainless steel washers, and steel wool in Haobsh’s bedroom, according to Henderson, similar to those found in a homemade suppressor on a gun recovered from Haobsh’s vehicle.

Henderson also said that copies of a memorandum of understanding between Han and Hoabsh were found in Haobsh’s vehicle and in the Han home. In the memorandum of understanding, signed by both on March 22, 2016, Han and Haobsh appeared to have created a company called Obsidian Teradyne LLC.

“[Haobsh] agrees to transfer $15 million as business operating capital to Obsidian Teradyne LLC,” the memorandum of understanding read.

Henderson said there was no evidence that Haobsh had $15 million.

Text messages that Haobsh sent to Han on March 6, 2016, showed Haobsh saying he was gambling in Vegas and claiming he was a “billionaire post-taxes.”
[.....]
After a lunch recess, Santina Rea, a civilian witness who had worked with Han as a secretary and janitor in his office, testified.

Rea discussed one occasion when she went to the Han residence to clean their home, since the Hans had been asking for her to do so. She said she came to clean the house midmorning on March 23, 2016, the date that investigators believe the three murders took place in the early morning hours.
[.....]
Prosecutors asked her whether she brought any bleach to clean with, as multiple bottles of bleach were found left out in the home and in trash. Rea said she doesn’t think she did, since Han would normally use organic cleaning supplies; however, she could not remember for sure as, she admitted, she was high on drugs at the time. :o
[.....]
The final witness of the day was expert witness Jeffrey Ellis, an investigator for the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office who does work with computer and mobile phone forensics.

Prosecutors and Ellis went through several AT&T records that showed cellular activity on Haobsh’s phone, as well as web search history found on Haobsh’s phone and laptop in the week leading up to the murders of the Han family.
[.....]
The bench trial — meaning the trial does not have a jury — is being heard by Judge Brian Hill and is scheduled to continue with more testimony from the prosecution and defense on Monday and Thursday next week.

Computer Analyst Provides Forensic Evidence in Triple Murder Case

Nov. 16, 2021
SANTA BARBARA, CA – In the ongoing trial here in Santa Barbara County Superior Court of Pierre Haobsh, accused of three counts of first-degree murder, a computer analyst provided evidence and detailed testimony as to Haobsh’s movements based on signals tracked from his cell phone.
[.....]
The computer analyst, an expert with decades of experience, was called by the prosecution to present the exact times and locations to which Haobsh’s iPhone 6 was tracked between March 19 and March 23 of 2016, around the time of the alleged murders.

The witness provided evidence from AT&T that Haobsh’s phone was tracked to Tempe, Arizona, on Mar. 19, after which it moved to the Santa Barbara area where the murders allegedly occurred, and finally ended up in the San Diego area later in the week, where Haobsh was ultimately arrested.

This sounds like the trial hearing on Friday...

Haobsh’s web history probed - Santa Barbara News-Press

Nov., 16, 2021

Browser history extracted from Pierre Haobsh’s iPhone and laptop was used to gain insight into the defendant’s mindset on the days surrounding the Han family murders.

The web history was discussed Monday during the murder trial in Santa Barbara County Superior Court.
[.....]
On March 23, 2016, the day detectives believe the Han family was murdered, the user’s interest seems to shift from firearms to bank accounts.

“How long does domestic transfer take to post,” the first Google search asked. Then the user visited a Wells Fargo page for a lost username or password — a web page Mr. Haobsh’s laptop accessed 18 minutes later.

Two wire transfers were initiated from Dr. Han’s Chase Bank account to Mr. Haobsh’s that afternoon. Jeff Ellis, an investigator with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s office, testified that spyware allowed Mr. Haobsh to break into Dr. Han’s online bank account.
[.....]
[lots here about "how" he transferred $$]

Prosecutors also have evidence of Mr. Haobsh at El Capitan State Beach on March 22 — when his phone was used at that location to search James Bond’s pistol of choice and watch a video of a suppressor. (Detectives believe a suppressor was used in the murder of Emily Han.)
[....]
At 1:39 p.m. March 23, the laptop is used to access an online psychic network where someone who says their name is “Pierre” pays to talk with Count Marco.

“Can you tell me about my destiny and the events to come?” asked the user. “Can you also look at my karma?”

The user types “I have done bad things,” the spyware shows, but the user deletes the line and sends “I have made bad choices” instead. The person types “unforgivable” before deleting the word.

“I learned so much,” The user said. “But it cost other people greatly.”

He later asks, “Will I get caught for what I did?”

Count Marco replies, “I have no idea what you did, Pierre.”
[.....]
Mr. Ellis is the last witness the prosecution plans to call. Mr. Haobsh’s public defenders will cross examine Mr. Ellis when the trial resumes Thursday [11/18/21], and they will begin to call their witnesses.

It is not yet determined if Mr. Haobsh will take the stand.

When one of my dogs had cancer, we saw Dr. Han regularly for herbal remedies. A very kind and knowledgeable man. His murder was so stunning, and the fact that this case has dragged on so long has made it so much worse. Hoping for justice.

Triple-Murder Trial for Pierre Haobsh Continues with Defense Witnesses

Nov. 19, 2021
The trial against triple-murder suspect Pierre Haobsh continued Thursday in Santa Barbara County Superior Court with more testimony from investigator Jeffrey Ellis of the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office as well as from Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Brian Scott and a witness who had briefly worked with Haobsh in 2014.
[.....]
Scott said that the only information they got out of the canvass was from a neighbor who had seen an Asian male near the mailboxes the night before. The neighbor also reported that her daughter had seen an Asian male following her into the neighborhood and driving very quickly on March 21, 2016.

Scott said the Sheriff’s Department did not receive any more identifying information on the man and did not find the reports to be relevant to the case.

When Ellis testified, he and Public Defender Christine Voss discussed how data is extracted from computers and phones in criminal cases such as this one.
[.....]
The third witness on Thursday afternoon was Nico Fricchione, who testified via Zoom.

Fricchione said he met Haobsh in Tempe, Arizona, around 2014, when they had a discussion about Haobsh helping to find a way to muffle the sound of pneumatic nail guns used in the factory setting of the construction company Fricchione’s family owns in Pennsylvania.

Fricchione said that he and Hoabsh had tested some nail guns to get decibel readings, and exchanged emails, but the project ultimately fizzled out.

“It was a pretty short-lived project,” Fricchione said. “We just did not continue the project after a certain point.”

Fricchione said there were no contracts or expectations for Haobsh to produce anything, so there would be no reason for Haobsh to have any kind of noise-muffling tools or equipment.
[.....]
Testimony is scheduled to continue on Monday [11/22/21].

Triple-Murder Suspect Pierre Haobsh Starts Testifying in Own Defense During Santa Barbara Trial

Nov. 22, 2021
As the trial for triple-murder suspect Pierre Haobsh enters its fourth week in Santa Barbara Superior Court, Haobsh took the stand and began testifying Monday afternoon to talk about how he came to know Dr. Weidong “Henry” Han.
[.....]
Deputy Public Defender Christine Voss began calling defense witnesses last week and on Monday, Haobsh took the stand.

Voss asked Haobsh questions about his early life, schooling, and work experience which led to Han and Haobsh working together.

Haobsh said he was born in Texas and has lived in many places across the United States, including Georgia, Arizona, Massachusetts — where he attended boarding school — and California.
[.....]
Haobsh said that when he was 16, he became very interested in researching magnetic fields and energy.
[.....]
Haobsh testified that he met Han once while he was still working with Revolutionary Energy Machines in Arizona, and Hsu was the one who brought Han in to work with them on the synthetic CBD business, which they called Molecular Scientific.
[.....]
Haobsh is scheduled to continue testifying when the bench trial continues Tuesday in Judge Brian Hill's courtroom.
