I think there ARE certain people who enjoy sending or posting "death threats" whenever they see anything in the news that garners a lot of attention. I don't know why anyone would do that in this day and age, considering the tools that could be used to find them, but it does happen. I agree that (most of the time) they are probably just blowing smoke and getting a sick sense of power by doing so.

OTOH, one of them could be the next ER in the making. HIS death threats were VERY real.

The case with the NY police officer and his online buddy from NJ, who wanted to stalk,rape, cook females ,and eat females.Many who first heard about it complain ed about "thought police" The ex wife of the police officer took it very serious because she knew him ,just like ER parents knew he was very ill. THE POLICE TOOK HER SERIOUSLY IIRC SHE HAD TURNED OVER THE COMPUTOR .MOST of:seeya: the public IMO refuse to take off their"Rose colored glasses" and just hear the 30 second blip on the news. The anonymity of the web, allow some to just escape reality for a while an be anyone they want to be .EXAMPLE the show Catfish ,shows how far some go ,

Yeah, I don't think people realize how many people are out there who make sick threats on the web constantly and never act on them. A lot of people get caught up in some fantasy world and don't think of the consequences. There are websites where people pose as suicidal teens and encourage actual suicidal teens to kill themselves - these were relatively normal middle aged parents on the outside. Celebrities and their kids get horrible threats on Twitter every single day by people who make accounts solely to harass them. Some people are just messed up. There is no way to track them all - and federal authorities are the only ones who can really investigate online threats. If you are going to report someone, call the FBI, not the local police. The local police can use videos after the fact to demonstrate something as part of proving a crime, but they are not generally the ones who have the authority to act on the videos themselves. Plus you have to keep in mind that it has to be verified that they are actually the ones doing it, because people fake that stuff all the time. You have to get in contact with the ISP or website host.

It is possible ER is on the spectrum and has other mental health issues. I don't associate his behavior with autism, but you can be low on the spectrum and be very functional. Clearly some other problem is much more dominant.

Also, I don't think early intervention is key at all. I recently talked to a very high ranking mental health official who said she could tell which kids were odd at a young age, but she could never predict which ones would become violent or delusional. I've worked with a lot of young kids and you can definitely tell which ones will be trouble, but I've never gotten scary vibes from any of them. That rage definitely seems to develop once they hit the teenage stage in most cases. Children aren't aware of how much they don't fit in until they are older.

Yes, ER wrote he was going to kill his roommates.
If I remember correctly, a previous roommate, Stan, brought a girl home.

ER first writes about the "Day of Retribution" in February 2012 (Pg 101), over 2 years before the rampage. It comes under the heading of "Part 6 Santa Barbara Endgame age 19-22" (Pg 83).

Not because of women. He had issues with his roommates. One of them he accused of stealing candles. Apparently ER took roommate's measuring cup. Roommate took ER's candles in response. ER then made a "citizen arrest" and called police on his roommate, ending up with roommate arrested for petty theft. So there was no love lost between them.

Knowing what we know of ER - I bet he put a lot of thought into those candles before he bought them - they most likely were of immense value to him...possibly could even be his best friend.

They most likely were playing a joke- and a nasty one at that...

It's tough - two against one... but he had the bigger room - and all of us perhaps at one time In our lives have had to live with a roomie/housemate or two. When things get bad, they get bad, in a hurry.

It looks like ER was opportunistic and just killed his roommates and
anyone he could lure there because he felt like it. JMO

Those two roommates came up with the most unluckiest proverbial
short stick in being placed in the same apartment with ER.

I believe whoever had been ER's roommate/s on May 23rd would have
ended up in the same exact state.

So this city has decided to pass a law entitling only those who pay to receive fire services, because it is not a right. Some cities will promise it to everyone, others will not. A city that had normally responded to fires outside the city without asking for payment could be sued for something, such as discrimination against a certain homeowner or negligence if no one was at the fire station, but in this case, it would be much harder. I don't live in a rural area, and most fire stations around here will gladly go help another city/town in an emergency - that's their policy. We could change it, though. It's all optional. US citizens have no right to a fire department, even if they are subject to taxes somewhere. very sad situation - trailers are so dangerous in fires and their occupants can't afford protections. I wonder what would have happened if people were inside. I would think the firefighters may have made an exception.

I live in an unincorporated area, Paulden, the fire department of the nearest city, Chino Valley, has a substation here. If you live in the fire district, your property taxes reflect the taxes for that service. If you aren't in the fire district, it does not. You have the choice to pay an annual fee to be covered by the FD or you can gamble that your home won't go up in flames, and no insurance company is going to give you loss protection if you aren't in the district or pay the annual fee.
The SOP out here: If the burning structure is out of the district or not on annual payment, it's toast. If there is human life at stake, the FD will do what they can to save a life, but not the structure. If it endangers a home in the fire district, FD lays down a fire line to protect that fire district covered dwelling.
Every Fall, we see 5-7 homes go up in flames down in the valley below us, when people spark up their fireplaces or wood stoves without inspecting them first. 1 or 2 are usually out of the Fire District. You won't hear anyone but the home owner crying about it. We paid our fair share, they didn't. Doesn't matter if it's a $15,000 trailer or a $450,000 house, you don't pay, you're not protected.

Astaire said Elliot had not been diagnosed with Asperger’s but the family suspected he was on the spectrum, and had been in therapy for years. He said he knew of no other mental illnesses, but Elliot truly had no friends, as he said in his videos and writings.

I agree that the combative tone taken by so many of the talking heads is not helpful. I don't always agree with your opinion, but I respect it comes from a place of geniune concern

That goes for a lot of the posters on here. I've learned a lot in this thread. I wish we would hear more from mothers whose sons are struggling with mental illness, and not just when there is a mass shooting. I fear that reinforces in the public mind a connection between mental illness and violence.

I grew up on chiller theater and Old Vincent Price movies scared me but in a good way and I laughed during the complete Exersist,Linda Blair cracked me up because I knew it could not happen to me,but when Texas chain saw massacre first came out it terrified me and scared me to the bone. I can read about true crime,lost my younger cousin to a horrible crime when I was 17,that almost destroyed me,and did destroy our family in many ways.But the minds Of people like Steven King I can not read ,and horror movies that are reality based I can not read or watch.

Which is why it is not EXTREMELY rare as you replied to one of my posts. And the scope of psychologists gaining script privileges is widening (legislatively).

Just because it is allowed to prescribe in two states doesn't mean that all of the psychologists take the extra coursework and clinical supervision/residency requirements. Having prescriptive privileges would also mean that malpractice insurance would be VERY expensive, and not all psychologists want that liability. I certainly wouldn't.

What is fascinating about his writing , in the context of the only reason we are reading it is becasue he killed and maimed many. BUT his writing is actually quite good. It flows, one may not like content but he is a descriptive, flowing writer - able to set a scene, give the reader a picture of what when etc.

He was able to set "scenes" with words , which is actually quite a skill!!
For his age and his problems pretty good story teller ...again dont like the story , but he got the story , through words , the story out in an extradinory manner.
