so from part 1 - Merritt did download Quickbooks Pro from the online download Intuit provided to him when he called. A CD of Quickbooks Pro was also mailed to Joseph McStay at the same time, but the CD install was not used.

Actually... I was waiting to hear a date of when that happened, the download.. but it was never given. That was new though, before this, there was no indication that it happened. It might have been on the docs being shown but of course, we don't get to see that

It's pretty late here and I may not have understood correctly, but was everything the computer guy talked about re the QB activity around 8:00 p.m. on the 4th simply to say no checks (or anything else) had been printed? Didn't we already know that? As well as the 6 google searches that had been run before and were selected again?

I just finished that testimony too! He said nothing had been printed, but someone tried to print 2 alignment pages, which didn't print and was in the printer spool. I had a note about this because Maline asked Schroeder about it and Schroeder tried to look but said he couldn't get it to work and it looked "garbled".

The 6 google searches... I would have to go back and listen to how Schroeder represented them but Maline/La Rock said it was that he said they were to "push down" other searches. (IMO you would push down searches if you were trying to hide your most recent searches) La Rock showed that they were the most recent searches on Feb 4th though and they didn't push down anything.

IMO those last searches seem like they were someone trying to see what was last searched on that computer... I don't know who would do that on the 8th though, at 2am.

Important testimony out of the #McStay trial today. Defense PayPal witness on the stand. Defense alternate suspect Dan Kavanaugh used PayPal debit card in HAWAII Jan. 7 to Feb 27, 2010 showing his alibi. Defense asked if he could have given card to another.

Dan Kavanaugh PayPal records show he bought airline ticket for $390 on Jan 6 and from Jan 7 all the way to Feb 17, 2010, transactions are from Hawaii #mcstay

Regarding Joseph McStay's PayPal acct: JM added Dan Kavanaugh as a 3rd party user on 10-10-2007 and from 2002 to 2010 there were 505 transactions between the two. #mcstay

Imagine that the police had checked all this out in the context of a quadruple family slaying! Just like in the testimony the detectives gave all along

I think this really shows the danger of wild speculation based on no evidence

It's not that uncommon when both sides want to call a witness for them to coordinate on which side calls the witness.

The witness was there to discuss subpoenaed records which both sides already have - they will be exhibited so the defence knew all this would come out.

It just saves having to call 2 different witnesses or the same witness on different days - especially when the witness is largely procedural.

It does make me wonder why the defence have staked so much on the DK angle though - as this looks fatal to their entire case.

Maline went through these transactions with Paypal witness, basically trying to show how the payments increased after the 4th, before the McStay's were reported missing. The one's in red show the time between the family being murdered and being reported as missing.

Feb 6th Dan requested payment (assuming it was for $800) … then cancelled it. Then on the 12th that payment of $800 was made to Dan. (IMO this is trying to show the jury, he requested it, cancelled the request and then paid himself on the 12th)

Feb 10th - in activity log, User Reset Password. With IP addy. Showed DK's paypal record from Feb 10th, showing same IP address. 70.95.65.75 <<< this is in Hawaii according to my expert, Mr. Google Search 70.95.65.75 IP - Comments and Complaints

Another password change on Feb 12th. Lots of things with passwords going on from 10-12th.

Prosecution showed that Dan was added as a 3rd party in 2007, but the defense on re-direct showed that Chase Merritt was also added in 2007 and summer martelli (in lower case) was also added on Feb 3. It is unclear what this 3rd party means though and I'm not sure it's what the pro's think either.

The defense brought up the debit card transactions, they showed that they appear to be in Hawaii, they showed the IP addy, which comes back as Hawaii in my search. The IP changes on January 26th, but of course, we didn't get to see what it was Wish we at least had pics!!!!

The only thing I can think of is... they are either going to say that Dan wasn't in Hawaii all the time... or Dan didn't go until after Feb 6th <<< wasn't that mentioned somewhere?? that it was actually Feb 6-17th that he was there? I'm sure I missed some things, but I'm tired ... a whole day of testimony to listen to, it's almost a shock to the system

If I understood correctly, these records were JUST subpoenaed... as in just the last few weeks and were received on Sunday LOL or something like that. This was not coordinated.

BBM, From my understanding of the investigation the PayPal account was linked to the QB's?
That the QB's sync. with PayPal.

The QB's account was linked to nothing, not the bank, not paypal, not CC's, not anything financial. Basically, it was no different than having an 'old time' accounting ledger.

My point was only to answer the question of why a defence witness is delivering great prosecution evidence.

It happens all the time because the witness is basically just introducing the exhibits and is competent to discuss them.

No problem missy. I realize that the QB's was not linked to a Bank etc. but do you have a link please to support what you're saying that the QB was not linked to PayPal. Just that i have never seen it verified anywhere? TIA.

I agree it's their look over there not here tactic IMO. Trying to throw reasonable doubt into the mix, but hope the jurors are on the ball with it.

Well... after doing some looking, I am not sure where that IP is, most sites say San Diego. Of course, it's not perfect, so will have to wait for an "expert".

As for them changing their "theory" ... I'm not sure they are... I just went back to the small clip of Maline talking about DK in OS's, it was San Bernardino that reported that he didn't go until Feb 6th, I knew I heard it somewhere. I think it also came up somewhere in testimony.

It was mentioned in today's testimony that it wasn't linked to a bank account, they don't say 'paypal' specifically. It has been mentioned in past testimony as well. I am confident that it was not connected to any other financial institution. JMO

oh don't be silly... they have to have Friday's off still LOL I don't think he 'said' that, but I am pretty sure the court is always dark on Friday's.
