LE reached out to AWP.
Same thing happened in Michigan to the young boy who had left a party. It's not an apology, it's a fact. Local PD's are funded by local dollars and most can't even afford cars and heat sensors. Very little federal funds go to local or state PD's. Sonar equipment is very expensive, and hard to get a town or state to fund if it's only used once in a great while. It's great that we have groups like this and other groups that are able to help LE with equipment that sometimes tax payers can't afford.I find it a strange argument that many are apologizing for law enforcement because they don’t have the right equipment or specialized knowledge. That’s what they’re paid for, that’s why they are The Professionals!
This wasn’t just some underfunded local deputy without the right equipment! This was a massive search with federal and state and local authorities and special search and rescue teams for water and air.
Why are taxpayers spending millions of dollars for federal investigators and state investigators and search and rescue teams and local investigators and airplanes and helicopters and boats and scuba, if it’s all ineffective?
When a few dudes with side sonar can find it in a few minutes?! Personally, I find all the hundreds of people and thousands of hours devoted on this case a HUGE embarrassment and a waste of taxpayer dollars, when volunteers can solve it in a few minutes.
He certainly took a big pause before answering! I'll chalk it up to him doing a mental "am I allowed to answer this question" check.
Do you happen to have a link? One of Doug Bishop's posts specifically mentioned they were searching based on confidential information. But I believe they searched other bodies of water in Truckee (including Boca) first. It would be interesting to know what the confidential info was.
Ah. Thank you. I couldn't remember exactly my bad. I just knew it mentioned that it was different and car went further.Higher
The water levels in the reservoir had been higher two weeks ago during previous police searches, Rinn added.

Divers find body and overturned car in search of missing California teen Kiely Rodni
Divers searching for missing California teen Kiely Rodni said they have discovered a body and car in the reservoir near where she was last seen more than two weeks ago.nypost.com
“Now the water has receded and we’re seeing the vehicle went farther into the water than maybe [police] thought,” he said. “When a vehicle goes in the water, it has air trapped in it for a while so it will float for a little ways before it fills with water and sinks.”
The car and body were found about 20 to 40 feet from the water’s edge near a section of Prosser Family Campground where the party was held. The area is known to locals as “The Sanctuary” and overlooks the Prosser Creek Reservoir.

Wow, ~400 juveniles were identified (to speak with).
Yeah, I caught that too and wondered why he had to pause. It doesn't take long to count to 1 (body)! He certainly took a big pause before answering! I'll chalk it up to him doing a mental "am I allowed to answer this question" check.
Respectfully, I think this is false. Nevada County's "public protection" budget (police and related) is almost 90 million dollars and comprises 30% of their total spending. 21-22 BudgetSame thing happened in Michigan to the young boy who had left a party. I had trouble hearing the questions. Regarding what gear it was in, I imagine he responded that he was unable to answer that at this time?

I don't think we have to be critical or mean to hope that LE will consider learning from this experience and improving their effectiveness and efficiency. If you consider the massive cost of the fruitless search effort here and in some other cases, it's hard to imagine that wasn't vastly more expensive than getting the equipment and training that AWP has.As soon as I heard that Adventures had found the car and body I knew that this thread would be flooded with second guessers who think that the police were negligent. i have never heard of a police department that was equipped with sonar and the type of equipment that Ad ventures has. No way that a town, county, or city would tolerate very expensive equipment like that sitting around for years without it ever being used which would be the case.
While unpleasant also consider that this girl would have been just as dead if she was found in ten minutes.
Doesn't that include firemen , paramedics, and assorted inspectors including building and food inspectors? Nevada County has a massive fire named the Pleasant Fire with evacuations. That budget would also cover evacuations which results in huge amounts of overtime.Respectfully, I think this is false. This budget is for a county with ~102,000 people.
