I watched Kimmel last night. It really was a lovely remembrance of their times together on the show. Kobe was a superstar, but he was so beloved in L.A.

While I agree, some of the press is so intrusive, inappropriate, and disrespectful, the fiery image indicates whatever happened it looked like it was very instantaneous. And, I hope they will confirm no one suffered.

Also, I read somewhere authorities were asking for pictures, videos anyone may have to help them determine weather conditions, too.

There was a helicopter crash in NYC this past year, right in midtown, very foggy conditions, and somehow the pilot crashed on the rooftop of a skyscraper. It was thought he force landed it there to avoid a castrophie in Times Square. Just tragic, but no one on the street was hurt.

—Some things are so tragic there’s no getting around it. The bigness of it. I’m reminded of that fateful day in 1986 when the challenger space shuttle crew perished before our eyes, all those school children’s eyes.

But as difficult as that image was we knew they did not suffer.

It’s also such a part of how we process these tragedies in our visual world.

Ironically that fateful day of the Challenger accident was 34 years ago today, exactly.

Also, my SIL heard that helicopter crash from his office building near Rockefeller. Thankfully, people were not hurt in that incident other than the pilot, of course, RIP.

Very sad and a great tribute from Jimmy Kimmel. I'm not much of a pro-sports fan, but its a terrible tragedy. So many lives lost, families traveling together. NTSB will figure out what happened and hopefully, lessons will be learned to help prevent future tragedies. RIP and sympathies to families, friends and fans.

ETA: That neighborhood has seen it's share of tragedies in recent years from Mitrice Richardson to the Malibu Creek State Park murderer. From following those cases, its a very rugged, hilly area.

Normally I wouldn't quote a reader's comment found on the Daily Mail, but this one by Juan in LA made a lot of sense. You can read it directly from the DM's website by following the link:

"This happened in the hills about 1 mile from my house. I left my home that morning and was surprised by the intensity of the fog which didn't allow me to see a stop sign only 100 meters away. I know the area well as I've lived here for almost 15 years and in convinced that the pilot mistook a road, Las Virgenes Road, for the 101 freeway where they intersect. The hills that border my community are immediately to the east of Las Virgenes so when the pilot tried to turn, he was amongst the hills and had nowhere to go but right into the hillside. Absolutely tragic that 9 people, including 3 13 year old girls, lost their lives. Ive been hearing the police helicopters from my house since Sunday. It's sickening to know that 9 people lost their lives so close to where I live with my own family."

Very well said. I agree.
I still can’t get over what TMZ did.
My DD went to high school with Vanessa, Kobe’s wife.
So much unimaginable loss.

Kobe Bryant was a great basketball player, all around nice guy.

Okay. Does his death merit as much time on the news, and media presence/attention as it is getting? Why has this affected so many people?
