Judge dismisses false imprisonment charge against Ashlee Buzzard

A judge dismissed a felony false imprisonment charge against a Vandenberg Village mother who is also at the center of a missing child investigation.

I think the recording, though short, tells us A LOT.

1. Ashlee isn’t as mentally ill as we thought, at least not to the extent that she’s incapable of holding a conversation or remaining on topic. She doesn’t sound delusional or like she’s in psychosis, MOO.

2. Tyler’s story that he shared on Facebook and with the press is completely inconsistent from what we heard in the recording.

3. Ashlee clearly had enough suspicion of Tyler and his motivations that she felt the need to record, and seemingly, that was the right decision for her to make, seeing how Tyler spun the story after the fact.

She’s certainly sounds more put together than what I thought she would be.. given the wigs and everything else. She sounds competent and like she can handle her own safety well (well enough to have a phone recording the conversation in case it was tried to be used against her later).

IMO, this is either very good news or very bad news. She’s either incredibly calculated and has managed to keep her daughter hidden out of fear of losing custody, or has done something horrible and has managed to cover her tracks very well.

I also haven’t ruled out trafficking (drug or human). Two phones, all the planning, previous trips, unexplainable funds.

I hope Melodee is somewhere safe and all of this boils down to a custody dispute. With all of the searches of the home, rental unit, car, etc. I am so curious what the police know.

I agree with all of your points. What I'm stuck on is why Ashlee was asking Tyler for his copy of her house and storage facility keys. At least it sounded like he had his own copy.

I found that puzzling as well, but I think the key is that they'd been hanging out, he'd reportedly visited her five times. She may have (for instance) given him keys to go and collect something from the storage locker and then let himself back in the house afterwards, and when he returned he left the keys on the bench or wherever. That is what it sounded like to me.

I can feel a certain way about a parent responsible for their child being missing, but there's a very specific feeling of disgust for this excuse for a human being who on realising a social connection with a person with a missing child chose to exploit that purely for attention for himself.

There's a very young child in the middle of this, and his first thought was how to push his way in and get in front of the media.

What if Melodee WAS still alive and his selfish intrusion caused her to be killed out of panic? I'm not saying that has happened, but he had absolutely no way of knowing it WOULDN'T.

He deserves to be charged.

The only possible benefit would be if the search of Ashlee's devices as a result of this produced evidence of Melodee's location, dead or alive.

I don't have any respect for this woman in any way. She likely killed her own child.

While I'm as interested as anyone else where Melodee might be, we don't have any evidence to suggest that Ashlee killed her own child.
Sure, on the surface the road trip can be perceived to be suspicious. But now it seems like the whole world is demanding to know where Melodee is, and Ashlee is well within her rights to them to mind their own business. For all we know she may have dropped Melodee off to spend time with an interstate friend.

When Brewer was responding to people about the statement he gave to media. He said Ashlee was paranoid and accused him of working with the paternal family.

IMO, that’s why she recorded the conversation. She seems pretty savy to me, understands the Silence is Golden rule very well.

she still sounded a bit off to me. not incoherent. but some of her thoughts seemed to come out of nowhere with weird assumptions in the background. and the part where she called him bipolar seemed like projection -- makes me think she doesn't accept that she's bipolar or more generally whether she MH problems.

and tbf, i don't know if it's established fact that she is diagnosed as bipolar, as opposed to just the family's say-so. otoh, if the specific stories from family and neighbors are accurate, it seems fair to say she has MH problems of some kind. it would be more certain if we knew whether that 2021 hospitalization was psychiatric, but i can't find confirmation of that beyond family implying that it was.
