My 2 cents: Most people with substance abuse cannot be "saved" until they hit rock bottom. Apparently living on the streets homeless was not enough for his bottom.

Even when we think they’ve hit rock bottom, the addicts don’t seem to recognize it themselves. We bail them out again, simply so they won’t die. Dying is the only real rock bottom for them. And they don’t seem to care.

It is in my opinion, it screams of revenge. Knowing that the people were famous and peers of his parents, it was to embarrass them. ‘I’m going to make my father angry and take it one step further by asking his friends if they are famous’. That is so condescending and disrespectful. He has deep rooted anger. Maybe jealous that his father was an upstanding person and contributed positively to society. .

Right!? It’s like those people who introduce themselves to you even though you’ve met a handful of times and you know that they know who you are.

I keep thinking about How when compared to the actor in the doc” being Charlie and the host said you seem more mild mannered. Nick said “ oh I go crazy” almost like he was bragging a little. Rob said he could get heated too sometimes. I bet it often resulted in a power struggle. I bet some of it was about control for Nick. He couldn’t beat his dad at anything else, so he wore him down instead.

There had to be deep rage toward his mother as well, as he also slit her throat. His hatred was directed toward both of his parents, apparently.

I don’t buy that he was truly homeless, not compared to someone who is destitute without any options at all. All he had to do was call home and offer to go to rehab, as apparently had occurred umpteen times during his teen years. It makes for a good story though, just too bad he didn’t follow it through with a happy ending.

I listened to the director of a treatment centre in Canada, he was amazing,he ran cedars at cobble hill (often on intervention) he said “ you dont always want people to hit rock bottom if you can get them there before,( to treatment) because once they hit rock bottom and have lost everything, they think they don't have anything to get better for”

I wonder how NYP could possibly determine the identity of a man walking down the street at night.

Just caught up.

There was an long delay in finding him, I think a phone ping to his regular phone would have found him long before.

I noticed in yesterday's press conference the Sheriff referred explicitly to the Narcotics division.

So, maybe it was through his drug connections eg a dealer gave police his burner phone number, or did a deal and told police about where that was, etc.

Just intriguing to think that maybe his dealer would turn him in...maybe they draw the line at murdering your parents...

I suppose it could be said RR indeed hit rock bottom when he murdered his parents. It doesn’t get much lower than facing a maximum life sentence in prison, in addition to bearing the shame of being responsible for destroying the lives to two well known and much loved icons in the movie industry.

Let me add my thanks to you for posting this.

Insightful in what it seems to portray (to me) but doesn't explicitly state.

There seems to be a lot of wishful thinking in there by RR, with a strong belief that this was the way to help his son. The description of NR makes it seem that his problems were far too complicated for this approach.

A recovered alcoholic once told me that hitting rock bottom is a fallacy. There is no bottom. An addicts recovery begins when they stop digging.

With the addition of a high-visibility celebrity lawyer and some softening of statements from close friends or family, I would say the bottom for NR has now just been replaced by a mattress-covered trampoline and he is going to avoid rock bottom.

I think he just bought himself a pair of velvet gloves to persist in avoiding accountability.

Yes but my point was the media does not have the means to identify people walking down the street. That person wasn’t even wearing the same clothing as was NR during his arrest.

I don’t doubt for a moment that LAPD utilized every means of technology to track NR down as quickly as possible. But there’s already various examples of conflicting media reports to indicate everything published cannot possibly all be true, as commonly happens with every high profile case.

We don’t know anything about the evidence but I’ve haven’t noticed anything so far to suggest he wasn’t intent on murdering his parents so I do believe he will land rock bottom with a solid thud, high-visibility celebrity lawyer or not.
