Gonna split hairs here but ultimately I agree with you:It's important to remember that Nick suffers from some form of mental illness, according to his own parents. I think it would be short-sighted to attribute his actions entirely to being spoiled, arrested development, etc.
unnamed "family" sources said: Michele had been anguishing to friends over the last few months that she and Rob were at their wits' end over Nick's mental illness and alleged substance abuse issues, and did not know what to do with their son Nick … saying, "We've tried everything." Source TMZ
Agree. I was thinking: Sure, it's complex for his attny to figure out how to get him off on this one...Serious, yes.
Very complex ... maybe --
It is kind of odd, he was already being talked about by then. Also, of all knapsacks why pick a red one ? Red is such an eye catcher. Not that it matters what knapsack he chose as much as it all feels like that is how he operated, Pushing limits, testing fate.Agree. I was thinking: Sure, it's complex for his attny to figure out how to get him off on this one...
Like, what was he doing lurking in a convenience store, when his parents had been discovered murdered hours before...he was probably staring at tabloid headlines about it while he paid for his drink...

Gonna split hairs here but ultimately I agree with you:
But I AM of the opinion that NR does indeed suffer from some form of mental illness or severe personality disorder. I lean to mental illness and whether it came before or due to the extreme prolonged drug abuse, I do think it is a factor in this case. JMO
I wonder if they trusted him to live on his own in a condo? They might have have just needed to keep a tight leach because of his behavior and possible relapsing. IMOAm hoping that the outcome of the trial -- if there is one, maybe he'll take a plea deal ? -- will be life without parole.
Nick had access to resources to live away from his parents if he wanted to, they might have even paid for a condo for him ?
No excuses.
His parents had (presumably) paid for him to go to multiple rehabs, he could have tried to pull himself out of his hole and looked for a way to eventually support himself.
It wouldn't have to be in the entertainment career either.
I can imagine the 'reasons' his atty. will come up with ?
Imo, no excuse for what Nick did.
Omo.

I myself do not know where the throats slit came from as fact, but multiple stab wounds make more sense to me, his anger and resentment and the knife. IMOSounds pretty straightforward.
Which leads me to a question... IF their throats were slit, like tabloids have been saying... would that be spelled out in their cause of death, or would that simply fall under "Multiple sharp force injuries"?
California courts are slow in all cases I have followed. There's already talk/speculation of a possible not guilty by reason of insanity plea. If that happens, expect a very long wait, namely, years before a trial.
California courts are incredibly slow in these kind of cases.
At least he will sit in jail without bail.
I agree, although I'd say mental issues.can apply to anyone in various phases of life and don't have to be labelled a full blown clinical mental illness for the person to be at high risk of developing an addiction to try to cope. From what I could glean, it seems like NR has suffered from some form of mental illness since he was young. Certain disorders can trigger substance abuse, frequently as a poor and/or desperate means of trying to deal with psychological issues. Speculation on my part, but I think this is a big part of why rehab “didn’t work” for people like NR: because the root issue isn’t the drug or alcohol use but his underlying mental problems. Eventually, the two become so enmeshed with one another, it’s difficult to separate them and find an effective way to treat them.
It was the tabloids, which have been quoted here. Hence me trying to figure out if slit throats falls under what the ME put down as the cause, or would there be some sort of mention of that.I myself do not know where the throats slit came from as fact, but multiple stab wounds make more sense to me, his anger and resentment and the knife. IMO
rsbmI would not be surprised if he is deemed insane and sent to a state hospital.
I think you are referring to what is commonly called a "dual diagnosis".From what I could glean, it seems like NR has suffered from some form of mental illness since he was young. New York Post is an approved source:It was the tabloids, which have been quoted here. Hence me trying to figure out if slit throats falls under what the ME put down as the cause, or would there be some sort of mention of that.
