IMO
He was drifting aimlessly through life, with no specific purpose or ambition.
No education, no job, no his own home with family - despite being a mature adult of 30+.
Dependent on elderly parents on everything.
If he suffers from schizophrenia,
it seems it was only diagnosed not long ago.
Constantly on drugs, addicted to alcohol.
What life is this?
I see it as abyss.
Full of resentment and hateful feelings.
It is a pity that no therapy helped him.
Wasted life.
Sinking to the bottom he dragged others.
Murdering parents is the ultimate fall.
I don't think this person is fit to be ever released.

I would go in the other direction and suggest that a couple of tantrums, and a desire to get stoned, do not indicate that Nick is innately "mentally ill".It's also the same article where he says "Of Nick’s mental state, he added, “It’s just a sickness. That’s my verdict.”" and
"With Nick being arrested in connection with the murders, Markowitz said he doesn’t believe Rob and Michele’s son had any motive to harm his parents.
“When somebody is mentally disturbed, you don’t need a reason. There’s no rhyme or reason,” he explained. “Mental illness, that’s the reason.” "
To me a normal few weeks here and there don't make up for a literal lifetime of odd behavior and fits of rage. There is no evidence of Nick ever holding a job, other than working with his father on that movie.
Nick has anger issues, throws tantrums and destroys other people's property, and selfishly gets stoned for fun. He also shoots hoops, plays tennis, enjoys daily family meals, watches TV with family, socializes with family and friends, and lives a normal life when he chooses.Just because others see you as acting normal doesn't mean you are necessarily well. I suffered a bad depression in my early 20s and now I am in my 50s. I have take depression medicine now for over 30 years. I have a mental illness. I always will. It will never disappear. The medicine has allowed me to be happy and live a normal life.Let us be clear on that! 1 out of 4 people experience depression. It probably is higher. Maybe during these time frames you suggest Nick was taking his meds and was in control or pretending to be anyways. Moo

Yes I noticed, I wondered what happened between “ Being Charlie” and now.. Seems like a big gap with not much info.Has anyone noticed that virtually everything published in the media is from when NR was still in his teens. So it’s easy to assume time instantly was frozen and inter-family relationships never changed. Reading all these news reports without knowing the age of NR, a reader might even conclude the Reiners were murdered by their teenage son!
Why aren’t we hearing anything of the more recent half of his life, especially if, as one news report stated, that he just moved back to the guest house earlier the same week of the tragedy, without revealing why? Where did he live, what was he doing for the most recent 10+ years of his life? I would think his recent past had a much larger influence on events of Dec 13/14 including why he suddenly became unhinged, than only his early childhood.
‘Life is a collection of moments’ (A Ray) and as for NR, many of his seem to be a secret, we just don’t know. Maybe people who knew him don’t want to blab or it’s just that they’re satisfied with allowing justice to run its course?
I didn’t realize Nick moved back the week of the murders, I must have missed that. I’m surprised no one is saying anything about this too.Has anyone noticed that virtually everything published in the media is from when NR was still in his teens. You are correct, not much about him in the last 10 yrs or so. He did participate in the Dopey podcast in 2016 and a few times after. The only other glimpse into him were those photos with his family where he looks like the most unhappiest of people…. IIRC the last photo that was taken was in September of this year.Has anyone noticed that virtually everything published in the media is from when NR was still in his teens. There is an odd fixation on Nick as a 15 year old. Perhaps it's easier to explain Nick's actions in the context of a 15 year old "drug abuser" with "mental illness", than to accept that a 32 year old bored, unemployed, angry man decided to murder his parents.Has anyone noticed that virtually everything published in the media is from when NR was still in his teens. rehab 18x... that all before 2016.Yes I noticed, I wondered what happened between “ Being Charlie” and now.. Seems like a big gap with not much info.
I have only heard that he had recently moved back in ( within a couple of days) and I wondered from where? Is that when he was in the 72k a month rehab? All those rehabs were by the time he was 16 or something, and in the being Charlie interviews he said he had been clean for 6 years. What happened after ?I didn’t realize Nick moved back the week of the murders, I must have missed that. I’m surprised no one is saying anything about this too.
Allegedly. Yes. From what Ive read anyway.rehab 18x... was that all before 2015?

Dec 15, 2025 — Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner's son, Nick went to rehab at least 18 times amid his struggles with drug addiction and homelessness.
This may have been when he went to that last expensive rehab…..but what was going on before then?We know that he was living in the guest house in mid-November 2025 when Barry Markowitz visited the family for 5 days. Life was normal, and Nick was part of every day life at home. Nick was not rude, or acting stupid.
I think the photos that media chooses to publish are slanted to tell a story. This recent photo, just weeks before the murders, tells a different story. You are correct, not much about him in the last 10 yrs or so. Could it be that “Being Charlie” was such a flop….no matter how hard his dad pushed the PR on it, that Nick just faded back into his life prior and no one wanted to talk about it?
I don’t think any of the photos in this article are from when this guy was visiting them.I think the photos that media chooses to publish are slanted to tell a story. This recent photo, just weeks before the murders, tells a different story.

Exclusive | I stayed with Rob and Nick Reiner weeks before grisly murders — what I saw inside the family home
Cinematographer Barry Markowitz, Rob’s close friend and longtime collaborator, spoke with Page Six about staying at the Reiner residence just weeks before their tragic deaths.pagesix.com
Is there any reason to doubt Barry Markowitz and his experience with Nick in Nov 2025?I don’t think any of the photos in this article are from when this guy was visiting them.
This photo is from Michele Reiners 60th birthday,I don’t think any of the photos in this article are from when this guy was visiting them.
The last photo of them together is in here….for Spinal Tap II

Rob and Michele Reiner made appearance with their kids — including accused murderer Nick — months before deaths
The couple attended the “Spinal Tap 2” premiere in September with Jake, Romy and Nick. The latter has since been arrested and charged with murder.pagesix.com
Nick was described as 6'3" and 230 lbs on the night of the murders. This is probably a more accurate photo of Nick today. Here’s a photo from 2016
