It was said that RR restrained NR in a bear hug to control him while still at Conan’s holiday party.
May I ask for link? Thank you.

I see you. It’s really hard for me when various mental health diagnoses are in the news. Everyone has a negative opinion and they seem unrestrained in expressing it on public forums & comments (although WS is better than most about removing content like that). The fact is, the vast majority of ppl with comparable diagnoses never harm a fly & in fact are far more likely to be victims of violence (source: an old bbc article ). JMOWhat does mental illness look like? What's a normal kid?
I have diagnosed bipolar 1, which is well known to have a big genetic component. It's been documented that I've had it since being a little kid, though I wasn't diagnosed until my 20's... I'm normal! I don't look any more "mentally ill" than say you for example... Mental illness isn't necessarily visible. Sure when I'm manic I may look a bit different but thankfully I'm on fantastic meds so that's not very often, but I always have bipolar 1 and unfortunately I always will.
I need to catch up on this whole thread as I'm a little behind the legalities but I imagine this is gonna be a go at NGRI and very likely succeed.
Tragic all round.
Huffpost does make that claim about a conservatorship, but the linked LA Times article in the Huffpost article does not mention a conservatorship.“The Los Angeles Times reported that a law enforcement source said the parents of Reiner were looking into a conservatorship over him.”![]()
Here's What To Know About Nick Reiner
Nick Reiner is accused of killing his parents, director and actor Rob Reiner, and film producer Michele Singer Reiner.www.huffpost.com
I have only seen one article about Rob using a bearhug to subdue Nick. Nick was 11 years old.May I ask for link? Thank you.
Perhaps it would help to create an “official” timeline for this case with links to WS approved sources.May I ask for link? Thank you.

Timelines often help, though it’s unlikely this murder case will become as complicated as some others.
This makes me think Nick is a "bad seed"------I have only seen one article about Rob using a bearhug to subdue Nick. Nick was 11 years old.
Today, Nick is 6'3" and 230 pounds. Bear hug would not subdue him.
“I was over there, it must have been early 2000s because he was about 11, and he was throwing the biggest tantrum, and [Rob] Reiner just had him in a bear hug to restrain him,” he continued."

Nick Reiner threw ‘terrifying’ tantrums even as a kid: ‘So much anger in his eyes’
"He had so much anger in his eyes. It was terrifying really."www.aol.com
that section was removed from the LA Times article. We hashed it out far up thread.Huffpost does make that claim about a conservatorship, but the linked LA Times article in the Huffpost article does not mention a conservatorship.
Perhaps the article was updated to remove a reference to a conservatorship:

Nick Reiner struggled with addiction and shared his recovery with the world. Now, he's accused of killing parents
On Monday, Nick Reiner was booked into the L.A. County jail on suspicion of murder, hours after his parents Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home.www.latimes.com
here’s post 410 from when we looked into itwhat’s odd is it looks like that is the same article that huff post sent me to and it looks like that paragraph has been removed. However, the LA times had been quoted by other sources before that point.
There are blog type outlets that just regurgitate MSM articles verbatim in their entirety. So, when I search for the exact phrasing that’s quoted in post 310, from the LA Times article cited, i see other “articles” that are literally just that OG LA times article reposted but with that quote included. here’s an example. I tried the way back machine thing, but it didn’t have screen grabs going back too far, just one from 17:10 yesterday.
So, that’s my guess : that particular statement “One law enforcement source said that conservatorship arrangements were in the works for Nick at the time of the deaths. In interviews, Nick praised his parents for helping him find sobriety but also said he was trying to forge his own life.” originally appeared as its own little blurb, just after the paragraph that begins “They did everything for Nick” and subsequently has been removed, for whatever reason.

I just searched the article using the Wayback Machine, which captures a duplicate of the original article on the day it was first published. I still don't see the word "conservatorship".that section was removed from the LA Times article. We hashed it out far up thread.
as I said in the above post, I also used the Wayback machine, but there was only one screen grab of it that day, and it was pretty long after it was posted. i’m of the mind that all of these sources quoting the LA times coupled with the blog posts that I found that are simply regurgitating The LA times article verbatim but with that quote included. (Those usually pop up right after the article comes out, it’s like automatic. copy, paste, post).I just searched the article using the Wayback Machine, which captures a duplicate of the original article on the day it was first published. Thank you! ... and yes, I see the discussion in comment 410, and that I followed your same path looking for the original quote.as I said in the above post, I also use the Wayback machine, but there was only one screen grab of it that day, and it was pretty long after it was posted. i’m of the mind that all of these sources quoting the LA times coupled with the blog posts that I found that I are simply regurgitating The article of verbatim with that quote included. So, I think it’s reasonable to conclude that the quote was there originally. jmo
exactly- it all comes to the same thing, like you said, which is its a rumor.Thank you! ... and yes, I see the discussion in comment 410, and that I followed your same path looking for the original quote.
It looks like a rumour that grew legs. Someone quoted the LA Times as mentioning "conservatorship", then many other outlets repeated that claim, always referencing the same article, but there are no LA Times articles about the murders with the word "conservatorship".
The original article was published at Dec. 15, 2025 7:51 AM, and the wayback machine copy was taken at 5 PM the same day. The article does not state that it was updated.
Since the word has vanished and there is no record of it, I'm inclined to believe that it is nothing more than a rumour.
Thank you, whole post is very interesting.Autism is one of many neurodevelopmental disorders and agitation is a common symptom, so your neighbor doesn't surprise me. We don't know if NR had any type of neurodevelopmental disorder though.
As for personality disorders, those, by diagnostic criteria, are not present/diagnosed until a person is over the age of 18 (and for myself and many of my colleagues, we are very careful about diagnosing until after early 20s), so that wouldn't explain childhood tantrums. That's because a child's personality isn't formed until their brain is closer to full development (age 25).
In childhood, tantrums or symptoms of "personality disorders" are either the result of neurodevelopmental disorders (like autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, ADHD, etc), or other types of dysregulation/impulsivity disorders, or a response to their environment (such as trauma or neglect), or any combination of the three. But a child won't have a personality disorder. The only caveat to this is children who exhibit signs of conduct disorder (which I'm not aware of NR exhibiting) as that leaves them vulnerable to antisocial personality disorder. We still wouldn't know until the age of 18, but we might see signs of it earlier in childhood if they have conduct disorder. But again, we don't know anything that makes us think NR had conduct disorder.
As to brain scans, this is a somewhat controversial area of research still. Social media (and pop psychologists like Dr. Phil) try to make it seem like more than it actually is. The truth is, there's no significant reliability of brain scans YET that could adequately see or predict what we're talking about here. There's a lot of research being done and certainly there are scans that show damage to specific areas of the brain, but those macro brain structures do a lot of things. We haven't yet reached the amount of specificity needed to see/correlate changes in the limbic system with aggression, impulsivity, and anger with any kind of reliability. If we had, then we'd be scanning all criminals before parole to give us hints into post-prison treatment and recidivism.
I doubt he would go to emergency for a hand cut, unless it wouldn’t stop bleeding, just brings attention. Nurse probably would ask, “how did this happen”?If he cut his hand during the murder, enough to leave blood all over the hotel room, then he did not forget what he did. His wounded bleeding hand was a constant reminder. It weakens any argument about being in a fugue state where he was oblivious of his actions.
If he was oblivious, and suddenly discovered a deep cut on his hand that needed stitches, he would have gone to hospital to look after his hand. If he cut his hand, then not seeking medical attention is consciousness of guilt.

If it’s true and Nick found out about it, I would bet it set him off.If it’s true, conservatorship would be quite a severe action indicating a drastic change from enabling Nick.
Ok, I didn’t understand the impact on Nick, when I first thought of conservatorship. I’m not real familiar with how these work.If it’s true and Nick found out about it, I would bet it set him off.
