Detectives claim a witness told them she was not working out. Gym trainer says she was working out all the time.
"But according to trainers, Zahau worked out constantly this summer. “She was in that weekend,” Reed Holman said, referring to the days before Zahau died."
http://coronado.patch.com/articles/community-reacts-to-detectives-suicide-finding-in-mansion-death

She was also gagged with a t-shirt? Well I don't think a supposed suicide can get any more bizarre than this.

At the beginning, I went back and forth as to whether she committed suicide or not. After watching the PC and the ridiculous reenactment of how she tied the knot, I am TOTALLY convinced it was NOT suicide. Thanks to LE for tipping the scale on this one. :innocent:

I hope her family continues to pursue this and whoever is responsible will pay for what they did to this beautiful woman.

If she gagged herself to prevent AS from hearing her, then she must have figured out he would be the one to find her, not JS, because he was the one in the home. If she had the presence of mind to be concerned about AS hearing her, why did she kill herself naked and outside? There is a balcony from which Max's fell from. So she could have hanged herself inside.

And he wasn't even a relative of RN's. He wasn't even her husband. He was just her boyfriend. I agree it's bizarre. Another thing I find bizarre is that a woman appears to become suicidal after getting a phone message. Prior to getting this message she was talking to her sister and making plans. She also had no history of depression or suicide attempts. Yet after getting the message she supposedly kills herself is such a bizarre fashion. Yet the message appears to be gone. Who deleted it?

Let me get this straight:

Now that we’ve all been brainwashed into believing that it’s not so peculiar for a woman to commit suicide with hands and feet bound, naked and outside; then let’s add gagged, jumped/hanged execution style, and message written in paint and in the 3rd person.

Ok - yea, that makes more sense to me that it was suicide. :crosseyed:

Well you know she also wasn't exercising in January (even though she was exercising regularly all summer leading up to suicide). The proves it right there!

Hanging would have prevented her from screaming even without a gag in her mouth.

So now we have the message left on the door revised as: "She Saved Him Can You Save Her" [my underlining] -from ME autopsy report of RN

And, now we have the insinuation that MS was on his Razor type scooter on the second floor hallway heading toward the staircase and something derided him sending him over the railing at a faster pace than waking.

"A ‘Razor' type scooter was lying across his right shin," the report continued. "(Max) had been told in the past not to ride his scooter in the hallway."

http://www.cbs8.com/story/15388199/autopsy-rebecca-zahau-found-gagged-with-t-shirt-in-mouth

Wasn't yesterday's press conference supposed to clarify and wrap up all the loose ends?

I agree and to add to that some things that are bothering me ..
The message on the door. I've seen two versions. "she saved him can HE save her' and "she saved him can YOU save her" Anyone know which it is? I see two different interpretations.

AS quoted by another poster, Oceanblueeyes, I think ..
And she used black paint from a tube which is more like an artist type paint. I wonder if she was an artist and this was one of her hobbies?

Her sister indicated on Dr. Drew that she was an artist and did NOT sign her name in block style letters.

Why no mention of the scooter in regards to MS's fall. The sure makes more sense to me that he was riding it in the hallway upstairs, perhaps ran into the dog and was flung over the banister.

Maybe these have been addressed further down. I'm just catching up.

These are a few of the reasons I feel more examination is needed. For LE to say they don't know how Maxfield fell, then a plausible scenario th come out the same day, tells me there MAY be a lot more to both incidents.

So Michael Baden has weighed in and supports LE's conclusions. Said they did a "first rate" job. Also said they have likely held back more evidence and just revealed what was necessary to support their finding. What I am wondering is, what contrary info did they also decide to hold back, so as not to muddy the waters. I've got a lot of respect for Baden's skills and opinions. He works both for and against official LE over the course of his career; seems to have no dog in this fight (but he is the best money can buy, as they say). Signonsandiego touts him as a member of the OJ Simpson defense team; but we all know how that one turned out......

p.s. I wondered aloud back when this case was just getting under way whether he or Henry Lee would be retained by JS for possible future employment in case the findings went against him or Dina. Guess we'll never know, but as the finding is suicide, there won't be a need to bring someone like baden in to second guess a murder finding by LE. In fact, he seems to have weighed in pretty quickly after the suicide finding with a hurrah and seconding of the motion to table the case. If he had been retained, that's just one more element of pressure on LE, knowing that if they made a murder finding their methodology would have been pounced on pretty hard by Baden or whomever had been retained. Who needs that aggravation? If he was retained, it was perhaps by Sitrick, in a hush-hush manner and where the fact would never need to see the light of day; it would certainly color his statement if it ever did get revealed he was in JS's employ.

This such a sad case. I thought from the beginning that this was suicide. If this had been a murder committed by the logical suspects, she would not have been killed in the house. She would have simply disappeared. No one would really know what had actually happened to her.

RN really put a lot of effort into making a dramatic exit and it was designed to send a message to JS.

It is especially tragic because she had a loving family to turn to support her while she put a new life together.

Peace to all involved.

I respectfully disagree, about the disappearing if someone in the Shacknai circle (including Dina) had killed her. It would create more investigating and mystery and scandal to do it that way. And Medicis, Jonah's company, has had stock prices fall because of this. I read that they fell after the press conference, too, because most of the public doesn't believe the suicide ruling.

It's the controversy that he/they would want to avoid, maybe thinking that making it look like a suicide wuld wrap it up quickly and everyone will move on.

He/she/they were wrong about that, for sure!

That I usually find, from my human experience, the attitude of those creating a defensive posture...not a confident posture...not someone reasonably sure of their findings and willing to explore and explain...just a closed-armed arrogance to deflect doubters, imo.

Such a great post, I wanted to post it again.
My very wise older sister read in some psychology book in college that the person who says No has all the power. Think about the todler, teenager, uncooperating spouse, parent with dimetia, and more and more often, cases in the news.

Whether she was murdered or drove to commit suicide......she has been silenced...

FOREVER.....

Now they can pick up their lives and go on...but RN will haunt them

FOREVER

A truer thing has never been said, scorekeeper.

IIRC Rebecca's divorce was final in January or February of this year. That would be reason enough for her to appear stressed and lose weight at that time.

Yeah, the gag in the mouth is key information. What a joke, that isn't funny. I'm with you Quester.:maddening:

Thank you, I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure when her divorce was final. I would say they may have remained friendlier than JS was with his ex's, as he has been vocal in refuting LE findings.

FYI:

1. Just read this article, includes graphic photos, sheriffs photos, etc.. and family comments regarding disbelief ...stating "I think I know who killed my sister".

"Snowem Horwath and Mary Zahau Loehner are Rebecca Nalepa’s Sisters"

2. "Who is Jonah Shaknai? Who Killed Rebecca Nalepa-Zahau?Update: Police said it was suicide!"(2nd article with background info on main players, but pre sheriff update)

You know, my grandchildren have been running and ran into the dog, when she walked into their way (they are 3 and 5 and couldn't stop fast enough. Maybe Max was on his scooter and ran into Ocean causing his fall, but, how did the scooter get over the railing of the balcony?

Whatever happened, I am very surprised that Max could even talk after falling and injuring himself as he did. I thought he was found unconscious?

I find it peculiar LE is using the idea that she was not exercising in January as a proof of suicide considering she was exercising regularly all summer prior to supposed suicide. Her supposedly not exercising in January could have nothing to do with any sort of depression. Some witnesses said she had a limp. Maybe her leg was bothering her in January.

7 weeks
15 detectives
and a lot more information that what we have had to work with......

+

LE conclusion

=

I got more questions now than my dog has fleas....

LE is way to friendly with the Shacknai family...

Yeah, during the PC they kept saying, Jonah this and Jonah that...like they were buddies. I thought it was odd during the press conference. I would think that they would call him Mr. Shacknai or Jonah Shacknai....not just Jonah. I don't like the familiarity with JS that LE demonstated in their formal investigation.

Oh yea, I forgot to add:

So, now we're to believe that RN supposedly called her niece: her "daughter", when describing to the doggie camp guy that her "daughter" was also injured in the accident with MS. ?? :crosseyed:

ETA: Or maybe not, GS could have been injured in the same accident with MS and RN's niece could have been injured later while cleaning up the chandelier as I believe the Z family or attorney stated. ??? :crosseyed:

Are you referring to the 13 yo at the house? The sister last night said it was their younger sister - so it wouldn't be a niece.

Kind of puts a damper on the argument that this sudden despondence upon hearing the news about Max and suicide idealizations could relate to a time in January when she wasn't exercising. I don't think the PC came across as well as they thought it would. I don't think LE thought people would be as interested as they are, after this much time has passed.

That also would not be someone Rebecca would refer to as a daughter.

If he was riding the scooter upstairs and fell downstairs, I don't see how it would be possible for the scooter to land right next to him - it just defies logic. I assumed when I read about the scooter and the soccer balls that they were downstairs from him playing with them there (most likely brought inside from outside play). Also, I can't imagine him bringing the scooter upstairs to ride. Even at 6, he would have to know that is forbidden. I can only imagine he was a curious, spirited little 6 year old who had no fear and did something risky without knowing the consequences

Yep. The more I think about it, the more I think the other person misspoke or thought he heard something else. I can't imagine she would refer to JS's teen daughter as her own child or her sister. Plus, it's never been confirmed the teen daughter was there, has it? Just the little sister.

:cow:

Wasn't it DS' and JS' child custody that was finalized in Jan '11?

RN's divorce finalized a few months later? ETA: late Feb '11

If he fell onto the scooter how did the scooter ended up across his shin? Both solved cases (Max's accident and RN's suicide) seem to have a lot of unanswered questions. I find it strange that in their stimulation police didn't even use the scooter, considering the scooter was found across the child's shin.

I assumed he fell on it (or close to it) and it bounced and landed on him.
