Exactly. That^^ is an important distinction. For families that are actually home schooling, and not using it as an excuse to isolate and abuse their kids, yes, there are HS co-ops where the kids/families go to regularly scheduled classes/events like music lessons, sports lessons, the library, and a bazillion other educational destinations. For families that aren't actually home schooling, they almost never show up on the HS radar, and almost never known by any other HS families in the area. It's hard to tell from what we know, if these kids were actually being educated or not. I'm sure LE has interviewed all the kids and have a really good idea of what was really going on in that house.
When a family really is homeschooling, and doing it sincerely and correctly, there are lots of other interactions with teachers, librarians, coaches, other parents, and friends.
When they are not, they are secluded and can do all lessons online, with very little interaction from prying eyes.
