CA - Two LA County sheriff's deputies, in cruiser, ambushed & shot, Compton, 12 Sept 2020 *arrest*

  • #81
This article says reward increased to 300K- but last paragraph still says $200K. Either way, it’s a dang boatload of cash. You can send your kid to any private college for $200K & cash out a decent house in most of America for $300K. But if this is the guy, perhaps no one gets the funds. Idk

BBM:

Unless someone already tipped LE off to the fact that this DM is their bad guy and/or to his location.

In which case, that tipster is fully deserving of that $2ook - $300k reward.

We'll see whether LE comes out with an announcement officially naming DM as the POI/suspect in the shootings.

If LE thinks they have their man in custody, albeit on a separate charge (carjacking), I would expect a presser by the the LA Sheriff today at some point.

It sounds like they're hedging their bets right now. LE sources telling MSM that they're growing "increasingly confident" that DM is connected, but not officially naming him as the suspect yet.

We'll see.

Good point.

As a side note, someone can also mean some people. In instances where multiple people call in accurate tips, an arbitrator can decide to split the reward into proportions based on when a certain tips(s) was received chronologically, and whether a specific tip(s) also included additional needed information etc.

Video captures deputy helping her partner after ambush in California
Reward for gunman who shot 2 LA deputies up to $275,000
''A reward of $275,000 dollars is now being offered for information about the shooter who opened fire on two Los Angeles County deputies this past weekend.

As authorities search for the culprit, the victims are expected to survive in what officials are calling a “miracle,” CNN reports''

'The deputies were both in intensive care Tuesday after suffering wounds to their heads and arms.

“There’s definitely going to be a very painful path for them, but thankfully no vital organs (were struck), and so their prognosis is good,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.''

Carjacking Suspect Arrested in Standoff, Department Doesn't Confirm Connection to Shooting of Deputies

SABBM:

Multiple law enforcement sources say detectives in Lynwood are increasingly confident that a suspected carjacker, who led Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies on a high speed chase Tuesday is connected with last weekend's attack on two transit patrol deputies who were shot while seated in a patrol car in Compton. <snip>

After an hourslong search, Deonte Murray, 36, was arrested after being found inside a trash can with the assistance of a K9 unit, the sheriff's department said in a nighttime news conference.
Murray has no known address but is known to frequent the area and is considered a local, the department said, and he was wanted for a carjacking performed on Sept. 1 using a high-powered rifle.

At this time, the department did not confirm that the suspect was related to the shooting of two deputies in Compton, when a gunman brazenly shot two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies as they sat in a patrol SUV at a Compton rail station on Saturday.
Too bad LE couldn't just bolt the top down on the trashcan and take him in to the precinct that way. :p:D

Wish they would make a video of him running so we could all see it. I bet we could confirm....;)

Anyone know if that handgun was a revolver or not?

Hunt continues for suspect in shooting of Los Angeles County deputies – Daily News
''Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday, Sept. 16, that the investigation was continuing into Saturday’s ambush shooting of two deputies as they sat in a patrol SUV at a Compton rail station, and he said efforts were being made to transfer the pair from St. Francis Medical Center to a long-term care facility.

“Both deputies remain in the ICU unit there,” Villanueva said. “We’re trying to see if we can transfer them to a place where they can get long-term care, but we obviously have concerns about the COVID and security concerns, so that’s going to be an ongoing issue that we are going to have to address.”

As of Wednesday, no suspect had been identified in the attack on the deputies.

“We continue doing a very wide-scale search and investigation on who is responsible for the ambush, and we’re chasing all leads,” Villanueva said. “And right now, it’s a lot of work we have to do; and we’re not taking anything for granted.”

From the article:
“One of the two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies ambushed in Compton on Saturday, Sept. 12, was out of the ICU and in a regular hospital bed, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The other deputy remains in the ICU and both still face additional surgeries...”

Any guesses as to why the male deputy hasn't been named yet?

Any guesses as to why the male deputy hasn't been named yet?

I have a few.

Hospitals won't release any information about patients due to HIPAA privacy laws.

LE may not be releasing this officer's name due to concerns about his safety.

His family might have expressed that they did not want his name released to safeguard his (and their) privacy.
They may not want to be hounded by MSM on their doorstep and/or the potential for any obnoxious harassment by the rioters that camped outside the hospital screaming that they hoped he'd die.

I'm sure it's just an effort to protect him right now from all the various vultures circling the hospital.

I’m guessing that LE never intended the release of the female deputy’s name either. Apparently a reporter spied her dad coming out of the hospital & got it that way. Ironically, the female deputy, who applied a tourniquet for her partner & managed to call for help, is still in ICU. Her younger male partner was released from the hospital. She must have used every last drop of strength & adrenaline to do what she did, because her condition is still critical. I keep thinking of her 6 year old boy & the fight ahead of her. I want this 🤬🤬🤬🤬 behind bars.:mad::mad:

If you are hurt on the job, aren't you covered by worker's compensation for medical bills? Would you not get your pay compensated to you if unable to work?

If you are not covered, why would you want to be a cop? MOO

The article is written incorrectly. The reward is $200,000. The fundraiser for the families at the time was $300,000 (but is now up to $586,000)

Of course they're covered for injuries by worker's comp and they'll be paid their wages while they're out of work. But it's doubtful that money will cover all their expenses and they may never return to that job.
The families are going to have immediate expenses that they may not be able to cover.

This is very true. It is amazing how fast money goes when there is a medical crisis in a family. Out of state family members may have to travel to provide support, additional child care expenses. I was also thinking about family being at the hospital, but with Covid, they are restricting visiting.

The officer shot in the mouth may need extensive dental reconstruction, plastic surgery. These can be ongoing costs, for literally decades.

Workman comp will cover most medical claims, wages are at 75% of gross wages for time off from work.

Workman comp will insist the employee return to work once medial need to stay home is no longer justifiable, the employee likely returning with a light duty or modified assignment.

How Workers' Compensation Payments Are Calculated for Injured Employees in California

MOO... 75% wages seems like a penalty, to me. When any person, officer or general public are hospitalized there are many additional cost to the family.

Many family members can and do lose wages while staying at the hospital, or/and caring for the person when returning home and extra food and transportation cost during hospitalization.

Many times surgical dressings, tape, sterile water, underpads, and other medical supplies are paid out of pocket and must be turned into WC and wait weeks for reinbursement.

When a spouse/family member is required/needed to provide primary care at home, then again lost wages with NO compensation. It's a costly experience for a family and add the 25% reduction in income.

MOO.....

From your link:

"I am honored & pleased to announce that a surgeon who personally knows how difficult & long the recovery will be for the 2 deputies has donated $50,000 from his own funds,” the sheriff tweeted Wednesday.

“This surgeon from Wyoming wants everyone to know that this horrific attack didn’t just affect those in Los Angeles, but it affected everyone in the United States who cares about our law enforcement officers.”

How very kind. Jmo
