This passage makes me sad. It’s amazing what people intuit. Plus there was the fact that Honey’s car was there but no sign of Honey or Barry and the beds weren’t slept in. Yikes. The housekeeper, she said, admitted that she was scared and said that when she walked into the house that morning, she could feel “something heavy in the air.”
Then there was Honey’s phone on the floor. I guess such is the discreet and unassuming role of the housekeeper that she would not look for them or alert anyone (who would she know to contact?) or even think of calling the police.
For all she knew there could have been a medical emergency the night before, and Honey and Barry had spent the night in the hospital. Even that could leave a heavy feel.
I feel for these people who were there that morning. Plus they lost their jobs.
