CANADA Canada - Billionaire Couple Barry & Honey Sherman Murdered at Home, Toronto, 15 Dec 2017 #24

Oh, thank you! I am very eager to read about this case. This is a very interesting case.
It also appears to be one of the cases with one of the largest rewards ever being offered of $35 million Canadian dollars.

Really? Does anyone actually believe that? IMO, it's such a cold case, it's sitting far down at the bottom of the old freezer out in the garage. It's only being kept alive by the persistance of someone trying to sell books.

My comment about police not releasing information was a general observation about almost all Canadian cases, most of which I follow.

I'm sorry to read there is so much fear because the case hasn't been solved. I really don't think the killer is going to target anyone else in TO. IIRC, that's exactly what Brandon Price said the day the bodies were found.

The killer has probably achieved what they needed to. It is not great that the person who killed two elderly people walks this earth free, but I doubt the case will be ever solved.

I hesitate to express certainty about anything!

For eg the case of the girls in Indiana, where police failed to follow up on a tip, that was discovered years later in the old paper-work.

Or new developments in investigation, like genetic genealogy.

Or people eventually coming forward, because their relationship that protected someone has changed.

Just because a case is cold, doesn't mean it can't be reheated...

What is the most popular theory so far?
That the son and/or his business partner killed them or had them killed because they were told to repay $60 million within a few weeks.

I agree that this is likely the most common theory overall. I’d be fascinated by the results of a survey of folks in here, who follow the case more closely.

Am I remembering correctly that today is the day Kevin Donovan will be back in court?

It is theorized, but not known, that they were attacked elsewhere in the house and moved to the pool.
i recently re watched an update on youtube to play catch up as this happened in the town where i live. whoever had time to do one at a time and the finger pointing still goes to Terry the nephew, wronged by Barry by selling Terry's father out from under him and now we have the son who owed dad over 50-60 million dollars and dad did not let up on him. Not to mention the over 125 million prior for dud businesses although it was interest free but they did not say or i did not catch whether the 50-6- milliom was interest free but dad insisted on the payment. The funeral service was like the who's who of Canada and strangely when the son Jonathon was giving eulogy many thought it was strange...

However, sense does it make, IMO.

His name is Kerry, not Terry. And the eulogy was indeed very strange. JS insulted both parents in many ways.

What do you think Jonathon meant when he said he and Lauren are “wired” the same ? Just thinking about this too much and wondering if anyone else thinks the girls need a closer look?? JMO

I think he meant the same thing I mean when I say my brother and I are wired the same way: we have similar approaches to lots of things and we “get” each other.

I read somewhere a phrase that doesn’t give any clue, but probably explains why the case has not been solved. I think I already mentioned it, but it came in resonance with how I feel.

Barry was a businessman, and business is competitive. That’s one thing.

The Shermans were huge philanthropists and loyal to their party. That’s amazing.

But doesn’t philanthropy start at home?
How do people view Barry’s treatment of the four orphaned children of Louis Lloyd-Winter, his uncle? Would there be Apotex without his uncle’s Empire Laboratories? And honestly, did Barry treat the uncle’s children fairly? Or as generously as everyone else?

And now there is Terry the nephew, it seems.

I know, the Shermans were two older people, getting weak, retired and murdered in own home. Cruel. Very.

So if I am torn. Honestly, regarding their own, they were not fair to them (very surprising, given their own histories; Barry’s family escaped Russian pogroms, and Holly’s parents were Holocaust survivors…such people usually help the families and the families’ families.)

So as long as the Shermans were alive and were mega-donors, and were generous to their children, community and the party, they were seen.

But Holly left no will, so all stays as it was set. Perhaps their children are carrying on the charity, to a degree. I never read anything painting them personally in the negative light.

But because, I bet, I am not the only one who feels that deep inside, the Shermans are hard to understand, perhaps many others feel, too, that “it is a messy story. God knows what stood behind it.” If something is found out, good. If not, so be it. RIP.

Where I live, there are immigrants from all parts of the world. I see how people treat their families. Some of us have few close relatives, but still, the family means a lot, even remote ones. And most of us have not experienced the tragic history of the Sherman’s people.

Am I wrong? Holly was difficult, it seems, but all the warmth in the family came from her. Barry abandoned his side of the family. Is what has happened somewhat predictable?

firstly Barry was very litigious,he sued anyone and everyone. Alot of his money came from litigation because they preferred to settle out of court so they coughed up money. As to Honey she was known to be not always the nice one, she did have an edge and yes she died with ought a will. Her family came at the Shermans to try to get her side of the money which was about 500 million Barry was about to transfer to her. Many stories about the state of the home were noted as the demolition team had gotten there saying there were many holes in the walls which were knocked out. You would think had she had a will she would have a digital copy with her lawyer but client privilege is the way of that..all and all it is a very interesting story to see if it will develop further

Just a side note. The Winters's nephews have painted Barry Sherman in a negative light. Barry may have deserved that from some peoples' perspectives. However Barry did maintain contact with them, and it is my understanding Barry was reasonable generous in terms of financial support to their business activities.

I believe it was when the Winters sued there Uncle Barry that he became very angry and disenchanted with them.
IMO

Agreed. Barry was generous to the Winter cousins and to his sister’s family.
