CANADA Canada - Billionaire Couple Barry & Honey Sherman Murdered at Home, Toronto, 15 Dec 2017 #24

I read somewhere a phrase that doesn’t give any clue, but probably explains why the case has not been solved. I think I already mentioned it, but it came in resonance with how I feel.

Barry was a businessman, and business is competitive. That’s one thing.

The Shermans were huge philanthropists and loyal to their party. That’s amazing.

But doesn’t philanthropy start at home?
How do people view Barry’s treatment of the four orphaned children of Louis Lloyd-Winter, his uncle? Would there be Apotex without his uncle’s Empire Laboratories? And honestly, did Barry treat the uncle’s children fairly? Or as generously as everyone else?

And now there is Terry the nephew, it seems.

I know, the Shermans were two older people, getting weak, retired and murdered in own home. Cruel. Very.

So if I am torn. Honestly, regarding their own, they were not fair to them (very surprising, given their own histories; Barry’s family escaped Russian pogroms, and Holly’s parents were Holocaust survivors…such people usually help the families and the families’ families.)

So as long as the Shermans were alive and were mega-donors, and were generous to their children, community and the party, they were seen.

But Holly left no will, so all stays as it was set. Perhaps their children are carrying on the charity, to a degree. I never read anything painting them personally in the negative light.

But because, I bet, I am not the only one who feels that deep inside, the Shermans are hard to understand, perhaps many others feel, too, that “it is a messy story. God knows what stood behind it.” If something is found out, good. If not, so be it. RIP.

Where I live, there are immigrants from all parts of the world. I see how people treat their families. Some of us have few close relatives, but still, the family means a lot, even remote ones. And most of us have not experienced the tragic history of the Sherman’s people.

Am I wrong? Holly was difficult, it seems, but all the warmth in the family came from her. Barry abandoned his side of the family. Is what has happened somewhat predictable?
Who is Terry the nephew? Do you mean Kerry? He is one of the 4 cousins.

Barry financed all 4 of them very generously but they chose to sue him and lost.

Louis’ company was a mess before Barry took it over.

Honey (not Holly) was not spoken of well by her kids, when they spoke of her at all.

Alexandra has a charitable foundation in Barry and Honey’s names. Jonathon is building a state of the art hockey arena in their name even though they weren’t hockey fans. He plays hockey.

That’s my understanding, but I’m not into crypto. This is why I’ve never thought of the photo as an attempt to craft an alibi: if I were trying to use a photo to prove I wasn’t at a crime scene, that photo would contain my face and be of an identifiable location and time, like someone’s wedding. It wouldn’t be of my hand hours earlier holding something I don’t want people to know. The photo isn’t an alibi. It’s just a normal, dumb thing to do. I have lots of photos of things I want to remember.

I’m told that this seed code should never be written down let alone photographed because anyone who gets it can empty the account

Maybe the display of the crypto codes were meant for the killer/s to withdraw the money. So it was deliberate. A way of saying thank you very for carrying that out for us. So, here's the money I now owe you!

Your theory is that JS gave his *hit man etransfer confirmation* to the police and the Toronto Star?

Yes, isn't it a major purpose, in arranging for a hitman, to provide yourself with an ironclad alibi? Like, for example, be in Japan at the time? ...

I’d be way more inclined to believe this hit man theory if the murders had happened before his return from Japan.

Maybe the murders were supposed to occur earlier, or JS was to have returned later, but there was some sort of mix-up or confusion on someone's part. This sort of muddle is not unusual with global travel across international datelines.

Related; why would JS go to Japan to learn about Crypto? He does not speak Japanese, London and New York are the world's banking centers, Silicon Valley in California is the world tech center. Quite possible Japan was a Crypto hotbed back then.

Maybe some members on this forum can comment on that.
It is reported though Japan now has a real problem is Crypto scams and money-laundering recently.

Here the countries that are hosting Crypto events in 2025. Notice Japan is not listed.

USA -8 events
Canada-3 events
France-2 events
Germany
Hong Kong
Korea
Poland
Romania
Switzerland
UK
Dubai, UAE
Bahamas

I am not a crypto specialist, but looking at the list, Poland or Hong Kong as i have never been there. Maybe this is why JS chose Japan? Cool country.

''While the Bitcoin market in China was cracked down by the Chinese government during 2017, Japan had simultaneously emerged as the powerhouse of the Bitcoin trading in the world. Being the main follower of cryptocurrency trading practices, Japan had attained around 46-47% of Bitcoin market through currency in September 2017. Subsequently, Japan's Financial Services Agency had formally considered 11 companies as the registered cryptocurrency exchange operators during the same time period. In contrast, despite of Japan's growth in such virtual currency trading, China had still managed to maintain its strong influence over Bitcoin's price since 2010. ''

''Cryptocurrency level of awareness Japan 2017

Published by Statista Research Department, Oct 13, 2020
The statistics depicts the results of a survey conducted in October 2017 about the level of awareness of bitcoins among Japanese people. In the period examined, almost 88 percent of the respondents claimed to be aware of cryptocurrency, but only about 31 percent said they understood what it means.''
2017
''Earlier this month, Japan began accepting bitcoin as legal currency with major retailers backing the new law. Consumer electronics retailing giant Bic Camera began accepting bitcoin last week.

Bitcoin trading in Japanese yen is the second-most liquid market globally, according to data compiled by cryptocurrency trading platform Gatecoin.''

I wonder, who may have been first on the Bitcoin market: Barry or his son JS?

Thank you, dotr. So Japan was a hotbed of Crypto in 2017.

However, if you are just a trader, and especially just a visitor, your physical location is irrelevant to buying and selling
crypto. It's all electronic.

Dotr highlighted a part that said the Japanese Yen was the second most liquid market in 2017. Maybe that had something to do with trading there.

In 2024 that market was struggling.

‘(Bloomberg) -- Japan rolled out more warnings against speculative yen movements as the currency continues to show weakness ahead of two potentially market-moving central bank events this week.

“I’m deeply concerned about recent currency moves, including those driven by speculators,” Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato told reporters, reiterating his warnings from last week.’

Let me propose a scenario.
None of the children of Honey and Barry were involved in any way in the deaths. We therefore eliminate the motive of money. Neither the money Barry wanted paid back by Jonathon or the potential inheritance to the children had any effect on the children.

Who and what do we have left as a motive? Anti-Semitic terrorism; Business related revenge; Personal revenge. A random act of murder? Somebody who thought they would be inline for money? A lone wolf seeking revenge against the Sherman's for some grievance, like termination at Apotex? Something else?

Killing somebody in their own home, and specifically staging the bodies is a challenging way to to gain revenge. Terrorists could do this of course, but usually they publicly want to take credit.

It boils down to who and why somebody would want the Sherman's dead, and would be willing to undertake a complex yet almost perfect murder? Seven years later it is unsolved.

Have the TPS overlooked someone or something? Is there someone out there, hiding in plain sight?

How does eliminating the heirs eliminate the motive of money? Barry was calling a LOT of loans, cutting people off, and laying off staff. Any one of those people could have had a financial motive. They didn’t have to pay back what they owed to Barry.

Or someone (excluding children in your scenario) who thought they would benefit financially from the Sherman’s being deceased.

Was BS forced to have the repairs carried out (by another company) in return for the compensation for damages according to the court ruling?
I do not think BS received any money, the contractors had to fix the issues at their expense.

When a lender dies, the loan does not disappear. The estate still is owed the money. I lend you a hundred dollars, and die, my estate can then collect the money according to the terms of the loan agreement.

Murdering somebody because you think you are in the will. Rather risky don't you think?

True. But in the end, the estate executors decided to cut its losses and not go after some of the people who owed Barry money.

Super risky play, to be sure. The executors could easily have continued Barry’s hard-line stance.
