I thought the same thing, first time I ever heard his name and the initial for his last name. The document is now uploaded and the last name is LUBINSKY

Stanley Lubinsky was a part owner of a jewelry company (Jaltex) that Barry invested in and was part owner of.

I don't know if Stanley Lubinsky was associated with the Martin Ross Group, which was the jewelry company owned by Alan Schechtman, who is Mary's husband and was BS' brother in law. Martin Ross filed for bankruptcy/CCRA in 2016, and at that time Sherfam had outstanding loans to Martin Ross totaling about $33 million...

''Police say officers attended a home last week after the homeowner called them about locating a trail camera and battery pack wrapped in camouflage tape that was concealed in shrubs.

The camera was pointed toward neighbouring homes, police said.

“This is a known tactic used by criminals involved in residential break-and-enters,” police said in a news release on Tuesday.

“These cameras may be used to conduct surveillance on target residences to determine occupancy patterns and identify opportunities to commit offences when homes are vacant.”

If the Sherman's had been under surveillance, as speculated by the TPS homicide detectives, that suggests the following.

1) The assailants, were not especially familiar with the Sherman's and had to gather information about them.
2) The assailants were likely contracted to do their work, by somebody.
3) There is a potential for a 'safe' house to have existed, where the surveillance and planning could have taken place. Assuming that the surveillance lasted for weeks.

It is interesting to note that the TPS has never confirmed the existence of the surveillance. Does that mean the TPS investigated this aspect of the case, and found nothing, or they are withholding what they found from the public.

Donovan’s reporting on the search for evidence of surveillance is misleading.

TPS investigated the possibility that the Shermans were being followed. Police no longer think this might have happened. They never believed it was happening a month before the killings. They sought evidence that would suggest it was happening, and they were looking at data from the month before the murders.

We know this was investigated and discarded because it is in the unsealed portions of the ITOs. When they ruled this out, they unsealed the portions of the ITOs that dealt with those applications.

That is not to say the Shermans were not in fact being followed. Just that the possibility of it is not part of current investigative theories. TPS could be wrong.

Regardless of what TPS thinks about surveillance and whether TPS has any evidence, the elements of surveillance listed above align with my theory of what happened. I think it was a matter of days (<10) rather than weeks. Given the high profile of the victims and the amount of money surrounding them, this is the one case where I think international hired hit squad is an entirely reasonable explanation.

Obviously I lack expertise committing murder for hire, but I think you'd have to have at least four people. Two to do it, a lookout, and a driver. This was violent and up-close, not like Skripal where the two GRU officers posed as tourists and sprayed the poison on the door handle. Please note that I am not suggesting that the Shermans' murder was state-sponsored, only that IMO the killer(s) had some type of state or military training in how to subdue and kill people.

To argue a bit against myself: in my hypothetical, the team would send two people to the house as belt and suspenders. The Shermans were elderly but not disabled. Even if the plan was to subdue them at separate times, that plan relies a lot on timing that's outside the killer's control. There'd still be the possibility he'd have to confront both of them at once, risking a scuffle or distraction even if he uses a gun to control them. And he would not want to fire that gun (leaves evidence). Yet we have only ever heard about a single person being observed near the house at the right time.

Moving on to the safe house idea---I'd be curious about any conveniently located short-term rentals (houses, or townhomes with exterior doors) that leased premises to three or four "foreign businessmen" around that time. They'd need a couple of nice cars that would fit into the neighborhood plus something like a contractor's van (again, high-end) that could blend and go unremarked.

You are presuming that TPS even bothered to investigate the stalking theory. Just because they dismissed it doesn’t mean they did much of anything to disprove it!

Here’s the news story about the work TPS did to investigate the theory that the Shermans were followed. Basically, they were trying to cross-reference any cell phone signals travelling with the Shermans. That would include burner phones. It came up empty. If someone was following them, the person did not have a phone.

The investigation then went in other directions.

Once connected, the device sends fraudulent text messages that appear to come from trusted organizations, such as banks or service providers. These messages often contain links directing users to fake websites designed to steal personal, financial, or login information — a tactic commonly known as “smishing.”

In November 2025, a cybersecurity partner alerted law enforcement to a mobile SMS blaster operating in downtown Toronto. The device was later detected moving throughout various locations across the Greater Toronto Area over several months.

Investigators determined that tens of thousands of mobile devices connected to the blaster during this period. In addition, more than 13 million network disruptions were recorded. These disruptions could temporarily prevent affected devices from connecting to legitimate cellular networks, including limiting access to emergency services such as 911 for periods ranging from seconds to several minutes.''
