I’m starting to feel afraid to fly.

Haven't flown in years but always thought it was one of the safest modes of transportation.

Strong winds and an icy runway likely contributed to the accident.

Plane landed on RWY 23, winds were blowing from 270 degrees at 29 MPH and gusting to 39 MPH. Which made for a 40 degree cross wind.

Winds like this would make for a very hard landing in the best of runway conditions. Add in ice and snow and the plane can easily be blown off the runway if the proper aileron and rudder corrections are not made during the landing roll out.

Breaking News reporting here in Canada is currently stating at least 8 injured. Two critically injured - with one of them being a pediatric patient.

Oh I hope the pediatric patient was not a baby. I have flown with my kids when they were infants and I usually held them during take off and landing if we didn't have their car seat in a seat. The ears popping always bothered them so they would either nurse or I'd hold them to encourage them to suck on their binkie to help with the ears. I think infants under 2 would be the only passengers that wouldn't be required to be buckled in to a seat during take off and landing.

I'm not too far from Pearson, it's very windy and cold today. I can feel the drafts coming through my windows from the east... -17°c with 40+km/h winds.
I hope the passengers all get inside somewhere warm quickly, from the video posted no one is dressed for the weather.
A speedy and full recovery for the injured - this is such a scary incident, I can't imagine the impact the momentum of a plane flipping would have on a body.

I know. I keep thinking of how badly all of them are going to be hurting tomorrow after the natural adrenaline wears off.

At the end when she says she was just in a plane crash, it broke my heart a bit. I am glad everyone survived, of course. But, wow, the people on the plane will probably have PTSD. My heart goes out to all of them as they process this & deal with the aftermath.
