The video report in this article has audio from the woman that allegedly saw the blue van:
Tourists found dead along B.C.’s Alaska Highway appear to have been shot: NSW police
@Gardenista, I'm not sure that the stories differ as when you listen to the audio in the video from the witness was very clear in her timeline when speaking with globalnews (you can listen to her audio on the video link below).I have to say, the differing stories made my hinky meter jump a bit.
It sounds like the wife was driving with her relatives and didn't stop 'due to safety concerns, but did call RCMP' and that her husband had driven by 20 min earlier (with the couples 2 children) and said the couple in the blue van didn't indicate they were having any trouble.
@otto, when you listen to what the wife is saying it is clear that both she and her husband saw the murdered couple sitting by the side of the road in lawn chairs.Does that mean we should not read too much into the second pass by the wife (and relatives) where they called RCMP?
the guy above says 1985 i saw 1989 but id hedge the 1985 is probably right it looks quite old

Looks like heavy old van so it might have just stopped and could not be moved by the couple so they left it where it stopped. It's a boxy van, almost 70s. It has a distinctive black sun visor on the top of the van.
The van is more off the road than on the road, stopped because they had engine trouble, perhaps that was the safest way to do it.

It will be good to see a timeline of events and witness accounts based on existing info and info to follow. For instance, at what times did SB & CB stop to offer assistance in relation to the times that CH and her husband passed by?

The issue IMO seems to be that these sightings of the victims were 20 min apart as husband and wife were driving 2 vehicles.
IMO Witness report sounded credible and clear to me. I was just confused I think because I listened to the recorded phone call the witness had with Gray Hughes where it wasn't clear that the husband and wife weren't driving together but were in fact in 2 separate vehicles and each saw the blue van but 20 min apart.

so there you go
Maybe the wife's reference to not feeling safe enough to pull over is not because of any danger they saw, just a general decision to not pull over with just females in the car?
Here are the details from the DM article posted above about the other individuals that were found missing or murdered allegedly in the same area which they are referring to as the Highway of Tears:
"Deese and Fowler were travelling in a region that has seen numerous murders and disappearances in recent years, sparking speculation the pair may have been victims of a serial killer".
"Last year alone, three women were murdered or went missing while on 'The Highway of Tears' in upper British Columbia".
"Chantelle Catherine Simpson, 34, was last seen alive in the city of Terrace on July 4 2018, before her abandoned car was found the following day".
"Her body was discovered two weeks later in the Skeena River, and an exact cause of death has not been made public".
"Just weeks later, 18-year-old Jessica Patrick vanished after last being seen at a McDonald's along the highway. Her remains were found down a steep embankment on September 15".
"Meanwhile, 50-year-old Cynthia Martin vanished from the nearby town of Hazelton on December 23".
"Her car was later found, but she has not been seen since".
I agree with you. Listening to her speak about the situation it was clear she was a concerned citizen and she said in that part of Canada that if you see someone on the side of the road you make sure the people are ok as cell signals aren't present everywhere. She might not have felt safe exiting her car but it seemed she did verify that the 2 victims were ok. It sounds like no one actually stopped and spoke to them and there were two very different perceptions of the scene 20 minutes apart. The first perception was that the victims waived along the concerned driver because everything was fine, the second perception is that the situation may not be safe and to call RCMP.
I think one of the times is 3:30, not sure if that's when everything was fine, or worthy of calling RCMP. Without context, the time doesn't mean much. What will help understand the bigger picture is which way (on that road 20km South of Liard Hot Springs) were they headed (N or S?), where had they been?
