I'm not impressed with that theory, every major highway in North America is a drug pipeline, minions are paid to courier it between big cities. They don't stop on the highway to do their deals, right where they can attract the attention of a bored cop. They don't kill random tourists, it interferes with their profitable business.
I agree....reaching imo

Lots of info in this article if anyone needs to catch up or refresh. Also besides seeking dashcam video, RCMP is looking to speak to anyone camping in the area.

Killer ‘still on the loose’ with headstart

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are leading the hunt for the killer and believe the killings happened between last Sunday and Monday.

Police investigators want to speak with anyone who may have been travelling near Liard Hot Springs on Alaska Highway 97 between 4pm Sunday and 8am Monday.

They are particularly interested in motorists with dashboard cameras who may have been filming.

Police would also like to speak to anyone who was staying at camping sites in the area.

BBM...To be clear, I do not think you are saying that the man is black, but that his beard is black, but the wording is a bit confusing. I have read nothing to indicate that the man is black, and think the beard was only described as dark, if described at all. Just wanted to clarify that for any who may not be following as closely as some.

Yes, the man with a black beard or black-bearded man. Hope that helps.

Link to the black beard please..otherwise it is gossip. I have not read anything about a man with a black beard!

From same article I linked above in post #501 Makes me wonder about something.

Was this man's vehicle parked down the road, as in he passed the couple and their van and then walked back? Or was it parked behind them a ways, and he walked forward to confront them? Difference being maybe whatever caused him to become angry, as in he caught up to them from an earlier incident...or he was irritated about the van being partially in the road. Or neither, I realize because something else could have been the motive. Thoughts anyone?

"A witness had come forward to say she saw a mystery bearded man in a heated exchange with Aussie tourist Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese before their murders.

The witness told Channel 9 the man was arguing with the couple while his vehicle was parked down the road on the Canadian highway where the couple was stopped."

Clearly gravel. And the roadway is fairly narrow in this location if I remember correctly.

Yes, even if there is a paved shoulder, then beyond that will be a gravel shoulder. Paved shoulders are common on roads in the north because there is so much damage to the roads from frost and snow plows. The paved shoulder gives the edge of the road a bit more stability and makes it possible to push snow a bit farther back from the road side. Sometimes there are lines painted on the road to show you, but many times the paint has worn off and it's not replaced.

Looking at the highway and location 20km (12M) South of Liard Hot Springs ... no white lines:

The arrow indicates 12 miles S of Liard

This is street view of that location

View attachment 194374

Here's the van a little bit S of the street view above

View attachment 194372

IIRC, the Google Earth street view images from that area are from 2009. Judging from the photos in the traffic cam there, it looks like the pavement has been changed since then and there are white lines and partially paved shoulder areas.

It's ok to have differing theories. We won't know the facts until the killer is caught. I don't think they caused their deaths by aggravating some guy by leaving the van parked partially in the highway. Lucas's father is the chief of police for New South Wales, Aus. and he was probably well schooled in highway safety. JMO

The killer or killers have made a big mistake. They murdered the son of a police chief and his girlfriend. Captain Fowler is going to keep after them until they're caught and spending the rest of their life behind bars.

BBM and snipped

I take, "parked down the road" to mean the car was beyond them down the road. As if the vehicle was traveling down the road, went past them and stopped and walked back towards them.

I think so too and I don't know why, at first, I took it to mean he had parked behind them and walked up to the van. I'm presuming when/if they saw him drive by, park and walk back towards them, they thought he was going to offer assistance like all the others. Unless they recognized him. JMO

It's in the interview with the woman who is a highway worker who came along when the man was standing there arguing with the couple.

Here's the link. She mentions he had a black beard in the video.

CANADA: Australian Lucas Fowler and American girfriend Chynna Deese shot - suspicious circumstances

She also mentions he was driving a grey car.

Hoping the RCMP can get out a composite sketch and description of the killer's vehicle.

From a video news clip a couple pages back-- if this was same incident being reported, the angry man was said to be standing in the middle of highway. I assumed he may have been headed opposite direction and crossed the road to confront the young couple. MOO

Can’t find it,,,,just the mention of a bearded man. Again, please provide the link.

I'll redact for now until I find the link with video of the female road worker being interviewed. I didn't imagine it or make it up. It's possible it's been taken down. Most sincere apologies for causing distress.

Actually, Dease Lake is 10 hrs drive away, more like 500 miles.
Actually about 6 and half hours apart, according to google maps.

New South Wales police released the fact that the couple was shot. The families released the fact that the murders were brutal and victims were unrecognizable.

I've only seen the term "unrecognizable" used on one site, but that's not to say there aren't more.

Chynna's brother said their family was told an open casket would not be allowed at her funeral.

Because of the above comment and the fact that it took 3 days for them to be identified, many thought it was because Chynna had been shot in the face. However the roadworker paramedical said she was beautiful. Had she been shot in the face, he wouldn't have made a comment like that.

I got to say I’m a tad skeptical of news reports coming from Australia. How do these reporters know the person they’re speaking with, from across the ocean, is sharing legitimate information?
