This case has a lot of similarities to the Robert Fisher murder case.

Both? Are you sure? Because this article had stated that Kam attended "regular" high school in Port Alberni.

>>CBC News has confirmed that McLeod recently attended Alberni District Secondary School. It's unclear if Schmegelsky also went there.<<

I have read that they haven't had any run-ins with the law. The worst I heard was BS purchased some lunch an a local deli for about $18 and then couldn't pay, said he'd come back with some money but never did.
Having worked and been on school board in BC for over 20 years for a bit of clarification its not only delinquents - Alternative Schools in BC are also for students who can't quite function in a normal class room for many reasons but can excel in a different format in alternative. In Bryer's case his dad had said he quit in Grade 10, so I assume the alternative was an option suggested to him, at least to get a GED, I don't know if Kam had quit school too or there are different reasons for him going to that style. Most often Alternative programs are also connected to example the high schools, it appears both boys received their graduation status and likely participated in the regular graduation ceremonies with the whole regular grad class from the highschool.

I think they received a couple paychecks, saw how small they were and wanted to hit the road for the big money. There's this idea out there that remote locations are desperate for workers and offering big money.

Yeah maybe but if they’re guilty of committing the murders of L&C, they weren’t job hunting at Whitehorse. But I agree it’s a huge misperception to some of our youth that unskilled workers are in high demand for high paying jobs up north.

Juvenile records, 17 and under, are not public records so the media has no means of knowing if any exist. Neither are the names of juveniles allowed to be published in police reports. Young offenders are given a fresh start at the age of 18.
Thanks for clarifying that.

I think I've learned more about Canada in the past two weeks than the entire rest of my life. I kind of want to go on a Canadian road trip. Preferably after this case is resolved of course.

Mee too!

I love the idea about the boat trip down the Nelson River to York Factory, and the VAR Rail trip to Churchill.

I like all food when I am starving!
True but when they took the food(if it was LD’s) they weren’t starving. Actually we’re the tins even open?

OMG, I thought the butter chicken poutine incident had been laid to rest.

Though delicious and convenient for long term keeping I have my doubts most adults, let alone Uni. Profs, would be short-sighted enough to bring canned fish into bear country.

But of course, who knows.
I dunno, people cook fish in bear country all the time, And I’m sure hot dogs on a fire are just as appealing to a bear. It’s more about storing the food safely and away from you while tenting.

LOL...if people here will promise not to mention it anymore, I will find that deli and mail them a check for $18.

LOL, and the clerk at the Split Lake store/gas station said they bought Chicken Poutine there, so they had a good meal before burning the Rav4

So, a blue van and an attempted abduction of a flagger by two men in northern B.C. Could the murders of Lucas and Chynna have been a case of mistaken identity?

The Hudson's Hope, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson and Grande Prairie in RCMP are investigating, and once again, dashcam footage is requested.

This could be very important and worth watching, IMO. Charlie Lake is along the Alaska Highway.

Thanks — good photo & specific name of school.

It isn’t clear if this is high school or supplemental tutoring in addition to high school.

It’s clear. He graduated while attending the alternative school. You don’t get to wear the grad getup for having taken supplemental tutoring.

Sorry, I didn't know this was a taboo subject …? I shall never mention it again (except to say that butter chicken poutine is just wrong IMHO.)

Yes it's still an unofficial thing...the blogger I was talking about graduated in 2008. Anyway it's not relevant to Kam's background so never mind.

They could have gone to stores that clear their tapes at intervals or just didn't happen to review them and find footage of the two. They could have had enough supplies on hand for three days perhaps including Professor Dyck's supplies, etc. especially if this was planned. Maybe they could have even used drive-throughs if there were any on their route...anyone know? I bet more people saw them but forgot about it because why would you remember two random guys unless there was a reason to remember them.

Honestly everything about this case is depressing af. What a pointless waste of five peoples' lives. Plus all the loved ones who will be devastated forever. None of this had to happen.

Like, ok, some people are dealt a crappier hand in life than others in terms of dysfunctional family, mental issues, social deficits, etc. And I know that stuff because I've lived it. But we all have the choice to do good or evil with the hand we're dealt. And for some reason, they chose evil and, at an age where they were basically still kids, they chose to throw away not only their own lives, but innocent peoples'. That is just inexplicably sad all around.

On a less depressing note, I have a bit of a soft spot for the people in these remote Canadian communities now. That was not a region of the world I ever really thought about before but I think I've learned more about Canada in the past two weeks than the entire rest of my life. I kind of want to go on a Canadian road trip. Preferably after this case is resolved of course.
Do it! The north is amazing and so are the people!

No one's gonna help them forever without expecting money. Who'd be willing to shelter, feed and clothe these two for too long?
Girls do all kinds of things for their boyfriends!

I think the Mounties are onto something with the boat.

The Nelson is huge and flows north and it drains into a number of lakes.

It could take a long time for the bodies to appear (if they did indeed drown). If the boat is unrelated to them and they're dead in the muskeg somewhere, their remains may never surface.

I want them to be alive, not because I care about them or their well being, but because I want closure for the victims' families and for these two to face justice and spend a good chunk of time in jail and be miserable, but now I really think they're dead and that it'll be a miracle if their bodies are ever found.
I have to correct that line

The Nelson River drains many lakes, but it ONLY drains into Hudson Bay, which is technically salt water, although less saline than most of the world's oceans at the Nelson River estuary. Hudson Bay is also really quite shallow.

AFAIK, the subject isn't taboo. We just beat it to death several threads back, and it still rears its little buttered head every now and again.

Four confirmed sightings in the first four days. Not a trace in two weeks.

These two are dead. And we'll never know more.
I think we’ll know more years down the road when someone stumbles upon their bodies (or bones).
