I agree, that’s what I saw in the video: KM resigned and defeated, BS nervous and reticent. I read comments from others about how cocky they looked, that they were just flaunting their freedom, purposely getting on camera, but I personally didn’t get that vibe at all either...
They certainly don't look like they're taking a victory lap there. I think they were aware they were likely being filmed and appeared a bit cagey about that, as well as being worried about someone suspecting them, but, no, I don't think their stop at that store was intended as some sort of flaunting.

I can easily imagine a scenario. They are desperately afraid to get caught. That's a basic feature of antisocial personalities (as compared, say, to people hearing command hallucinations or flying off the handle in a domestic quarrel).

So, they go back and forth, "We can't leave, what if someone saw our truck? They'll catch us right away!" Perhaps one wants to go ahead and take the truck, the other doesn't. Perhaps Kam keeps saying the truck needs to go back to his family and he can't leave it. They both know it contains evidence that will specifically implicate them in the murders. Eventually, they agree to burn the damn truck (now an immediate source of contention between them) after grabbing a new car. The plan to grab the new car reunites them and gives them energy to go on to the next phase.

Whether they discussed it or not, burning the truck and taking the RAV4 was essentially their commitment to joint suicide/potential death by cop. Death pact. That all became necessary after they killed Chynna and Lucas. It was a dramatic ploy, it was not thought out in advance.

I can imagine them weighing out pro's and con's of taking the truck. How much forensic evidence does it contain? Once they start thinking about any of the evidence, it probably becomes clear that the truck is filled with their fingerprints and DNA, no question about it.

It's also a big middle finger to their families and a billboard that says "We aren't coming back peacefully," which may have taken them a couple of days to get to. It was a really final act, they were then willing to die, whenever it happened. I'm sure they at least thought about turning themselves in vs. burning the truck...
Great post! I think this is very likely a conversation they did have, and I agree it may have taken them some time to accept their decision and the finality of it. I can also see KM being more attached to their truck than BS simply since it was apparently his vehicle.

Exactly. BS and KM apparently loved the outdoors, they were so called survivalists, so having use of a Diesel truck and camper was exactly what they wanted.
Thank you! OP is giving me grief about this... o_O

Please provide a link to the picture with the computer.

I recall many of the photos of Mcleod's burned truck/camper and the contents including the computer tower were on news video clips that are not archived longterm. And the video clips embed on tweets cannot be uploaded on WS.
Believe me -- I've tried numerous times!

There may be a still photo of computer tower somewhere here in 13 threads.

But if that was the case and they knew and accepted it wasn't going to end well for them, why didn't they kill more people on the way out? I was actually kind of surprised that they ended up dying ignominiously in the wilderness instead of having some "blaze of glory" police shootout like Bryer's dad predicted.

It’s a short video, one without much context.

I think we should be careful about drawing any conclusions at all.

You can pretty much see what you want to see there.
Agreed. Though we might be able to universally agree that they do not look at ease.

Maybe they killed LD, then decided to take the RAV4, not killed him for the RAV4. I don't think it's crystal clear at all.
That may be, but I seem to remember a comment by the Jade City Store owner that she (or her daughter?) saw the pair hitchhiking later, one on each side of the road. I can't for the life of me find that quotation now...

But if that's accurate, to me that sounds like a 'lying in wait' scenario to me. I believe they may have seen those electronic signs asking for anyone with dashcam footage from July 14/15 in the deaths of LF and CD and panicked, thinking to themselves, "Oh 🤬🤬🤬🤬! Maybe someone saw our camper." They decided they needed a change of vehicle, ambushed poor LD, perhaps by hitching a ride and then killing him. They then drive back to their truck, load up what they want to take, and speed off to Alberta in the Rav4.

JMO of course. Either way, the outcome is the same.

I know it's not the theme of your post, but I'm not sure that loving nature and being a survivalist are the same thing. Not being a survivalist, I have no idea what motives them, but I think survivalist go to the woods because urban society is in peril, they don't believe in government, etc, not to commune with nature...

It was posted on Global BC's twitter page on July 24. It was talked about on thread #3 of this discussion, page 44.. but the link to the photo is broken now.

The truck was most likely still worth a fair amount of money, and looked to be in quite good condition. I don’t know about the family financials at all but IMO the truck doesn’t qualify as “an old beat up truck”.
Especially with the price of nicer RVs or newer trucks. Gack.

I saw that, too! I can dig through my, ahem, archives and see if I can find it. She also mentioned them camping there for a few days. I couldn't figure out the logistics of what they were going to do if someone picked one of them up and not the other. Maybe that's why they abandoned that approach.

I'm not prepared to completely believe anything yet myself, though I am more inclined to believe they did kill LD. I believe it was not necessarily intentional. I still do not think they killed C and L though. I understand that they could have thought of burning vehicles later, but I really can't help but think they would have burned the van too.

I feel the same.
I do believe they are responsible for the murder of Mr. Dyck, but I am yet to be convinced that they murdered Lucas & Chynna.

I have been following this from the very start and I am just not sure that BS & KM even knew they were suspects in the first murders.
They burnt the Rav 4 the evening of July 22 and it seems they headed into the wilderness.
If they did have phones, which I doubt, too easy to track, they likely had minimal cell/data coverage if any.
They were not named as suspects until mid day July 23.
We also do not yet know what caused the truck/camper fire, could it have been an electrical fire? I know nothing about what makes a vehicle burn like that.

Two stupid "kids" that didn't want to end their first life journey yet so decided to steal a vehicle, that turned very bad and Mr Dyck was killed.
No plan, just get as far away as possible?

I am not saying they did not kill Lucas & Chynna and a big part of me wants it to be them so this can truly be over.

My mind is just not yet 100% convinced. I hope some of the basic questions get answered someday.

JMO

I figured it was a "we'll take the first car that stops in either direction" approach.

Maybe it wasn't actually as fun as they imagined it would be? I can only hope.

I’m pretty sure I saw it in the charred burn pile on the tarp, but have no energy to find it now. ;)

Yeah, I wonder how far apart they were hitching. And if one of them would ask the driver, "Hey, can you pick up my buddy walking in the other direction? We need him, too. Please?"

Right, you didn’t mention ‘fancy’, but you said if KM’s family were well-off, then why did they buy him an ‘old’ ‘ beat up’ truck and camper. I apologize if my using the antonym ‘fancy’ wasn’t the one you were thinking of.[/
