How do you do that? Can you explain a bit more please.
I don't know what browser you use, but I use Chrome. The 3 dots at the top far right of the page, if I right click, give me an option of new tab, new window, or new Incognito window. I'm not technically savvy enough to explain why, but the Incognito tab doesn't log your browser history, so you essentially bypass the mechanism that makes a news site say, "Hey, you've used up all your free turns!" Some news sites block Incognito tabs, which is fair enough, but so far the Globe and Mail has never blocked me while using one, though it did block me repeatedly from using a normal browser.

I don’t think they were robbed. Is there a link that verifies this?

I do not believe there has been any confirmation of robbery.
This link actually has Chynna's brother saying most belongings were left behind

Could the cabbie have been their next victim? Maybe like with LD and his Rav4, they wanted to change cars. Luring the cabdriver out of town would have made him and easy mark

If that were the case, wouldn’t they request a destination in which the answer was, “Sure, I’ll be right over to pick you up.”

What do people do with an air soft gun?

It’s just like a paintball gun, but less prone to issues due to leaky paintballs. They could play paintball tag although it would be known as airsoft tag I suppose. I imagine they could set cans up as targets and challenge themselves to improve their aim.

Thursday July 18 McLeod and Schmegelsky were spotted at Cassiar Mountain Jake Store in Jade City, and then leaving southbound from Super A General Store in Dease Lake at about 3:15 p.m. They were driving a red and grey Dodge pickup truck with a sleeping camper.

The next day, their burning camper van was found
50 kms south of Dease Lake (115 km south of Jade City) and Dyck's body was found

Thanks, but I am more wondering if they were there previous to that as well or only there on the 18th/19th? When were they seen "camping" in the lot just outside town? When were they seen "hitchhiking"? and if they were hitchhiking, where was their truck?

If you open your web browser under settings you should be able to click on "incognito" or private window. That opens up a tab that is not being tracked. Using this usually gets you around sites that want you to pay

Well here's everything anyone could possibly need to know about the Rav 4 but my eyes still glaze over in trying to decipher whether Professor Dyck's 2011 model had a diesel or gas engine. On the one hand, I can imagine that BS and CM might consider to be a good vehicle to hoist, given that they might not have far fewer fuel stops when on the lam (and as I recall, it was mentioned at one point that there were a number of fuel canisters in Professor Dyck's car.) On the other hand, access to gasoline didn't seem to be much of a challenge to them. They certainly used ample amounts of it in the torching of the two vehicles.

Fuel canisters are typically propane or gel and used to fuel a small BBQ or campstove. That’s why it’d be common for someone camping to carry along several of them. Fuel cans are used to transport additional automotive fuel.

There’s several videos on YouTube with instructions on how to burn a vehicle. I have no idea why anyone with honourable intentions would be interested in burning a vehicle.

I wonder if there had been prior unsolved incidents of arson in Port Alberni.

It’s not usual for people to hunt here on the Island. Is it possible Kams family were hunters and had guns? Is that what intrigued him to survival games? Did he take a family gun with him without them knowing?

Police have never discussed these questions so no one knows.

Gosh. Actually, I think his speculation rather specifically illustrates the Occams Razor theory very well. IMO. MOO. Bodies lying motionless down a grassy slope below their van would very well be all but invisible in the quiet darkness of the night. MOO. If you looking around to see if there were occupants of the vehicle about, the last thing in the world you'd be scanning for, imo, would be people lying in the the grass. MOO

you really think someone could pull over and not see the two bodies lying where they were
that someone would have to be very unobservant IMO
not that that has anything to do with my original statement

I just got notified that one of my posts was deleted for claiming inside info without being verified. I don’t know which post was deleted. I have submitted for verification and will wait for that process to play out. It is apparent that wild speculation is valued more than facts from people who were present so until my verification is complete the I will likely take a bit more of a back seat and reply less.

If anyone has any questions about things I have posted please send me a PM as I likely won’t keep a close eye on the thread until I’m verified.

I hope the verification process is quick since I encouraged you to do it lol I'm sure you can understand why it's this way, otherwise we could all claim to be someone we are not :)

One gets the impression that this is the first time in Canadian history that someone was murdered in Northern BC.

I get what you’re saying because this horse died from the beatings a while ago. But really, your patience must end somewhere.

Robbery has been mentioned since the beginning as the motive for the murders. The stolen Rav4 and related murder is also robbery/murder motive.

I'm assuming that their ID was in their wallets and their wallets were also missing. The reason that ID was significant is that they could not be identified for 3 days - until Chynna's passport was found hidden in the van.

"It appears robbery may have been the motive with the couple’s identification missing."

In the dark, with no street lights, down an embankment in a ditch? I think that someone laying flat, not moving or making any noise could easily be missed

If they stole their ID, good chance they didn’t leave wallets with cash behind.

“Deese’s father, Dwayne Deese, later told The Charlotte Observer he believed the amount of time it took to identify the bodies of his daughter and her boyfriend spoke to the violent end they met. He said this also led him to believe all forms of identification immediately accessible were taken, the newspaper reported.”

They don't. No one in Canada has to care at all about how they are perceived outside of Canada.

The amount of information available to the US public about the Las Vegas shootings far exceedings what is available publicly to Canadians about these events. So, no Canadian should complain about lack of information on the US side and if Canadians like their system, they should maintain it. From reading here, I know that some Canadians would have liked more information (I, for one, want to know if snipers are in the woods...what guns they are using, but that's just me).

We each choose where to live and where to travel based on perceptions. I'm just saying that Australians, in particular (where this case gets heavy coverage) may be left with a bad taste.

I'm not that interested in "official" communications. I'm interested in police having to back up their pursuit of suspects with evidence that makes sense to the public. I guess I'm agreeing that murders on public roads are public events. We know, for example, what weapons were used in El Paso and Dayton, how big the magazines were, and that grandparents (in the El Paso case) had contacted police with serious concerns about the shooter. In the Dayton case, we know that nearly all the deceased were shot in the torsos (typical of someone fanning a group with an aim to make sure lots of shots land) except for the sister (who was shot in the head). In the case of the Orange County man who went on a rampage (yesterday, I believe) and knifed a bunch of people, we know that he also robbed a couple of places without knifing them (but at knife point - actually, it was a machete).

And you betcha, I want to know if people in my general area are wielding machetes (a guy was walking with one at 5 am when noticed by some neighbors - I would now cite this other case in asking them to please let police know).

Motive/MO are not the rigid things we once thought. These two were capable of quite a bit (but not as much, if they were merely armed with a plastic pellet gun and one knife). If they ran over Prof Dyck and didn't shoot or slice him, that means something different (to me and yes, I do want to know). I'd want to know if all three people were essentially knifed to death, as I would take different precautions than if they were running people over with vehicles.

I do wonder if RCMP could work effectively with the Australian LE, in this case (given the very different constraints on publicity). That alone (isolating RCMP from very good LE in Australia) makes me a little disappointed (I think that the more eyes are on a case, the better).

I didn't mean to imply that anyone was complaining about information from the Vegas shooting, I asked whether or not the US government gave any official statements to the Canadian government as a comparison because the poster I initially replied to said that the RCMP will have to provide answers to the Aus and US governments. I'm only curious as to whether or not there's a standard international policy. As far as the Vegas shooter goes, the FBI still has no idea why he did it so there are unanswered questions about that case.

Actually, in the middle of the night? Yes, I certainly do. I don't know what the weather was like on the overnight of the 15.16th, but at the best of times and especially if there was also cloud cover, it would be pitch black, illuminated only by directional headlights and possibly a flashlight. From the published photograph - and no, I don't wish to post that dreadful link - but as I recall, the bodies were down a grassy slope away from their van. Quite visible in daylight, but easily not seen at night. IMOO.
