What do you make of this letter to the editor of the Alberni Valley Times in 2008, signed by "Alan David Schmegelsky Founder DADDYK (Dads Assisting Drug Damaged Youth and Kids)"?

"There is nothing worse then looking in a small child's mouth and
seeing extensive dental work as a result of meth exposure."

CN BC: LTE: Province Of BC Should Adopt DEC Laws Too - Rave.ca

Do you think this is the form of AS's harassment? In the Daily Mail story on Red Flagged, AS writes of DS, "substance abuse became her only love", and he did touch on the teeth thing:

Yes, usually there is a gate and check-in at the entry. The "IN" gate gets closed at night. But the "OUT" gate stays open. So a person can drive in even when no one is there.

Even if people drive into the campground when the gate is unmanned, then what? Campsites are booked online well in advance of travel dates. Campsites are full. Someone who drives into the site and has no where to park will attract attention. Everyone will wonder what they're up to - and safety is a priority.

One of the WSers, @gigitty (?), who is a fire fighter and auto repair worker mentioned that he didn't believe the damage to the roof and frame of the suspects' truck/camper was a result of the fire. Was there another foray into the ditch which wrecked the suspects' pickup?

If so, it's possible that the murders of LF and CD resulted from an attempted robbery of their vehicle.

There was a lot of talk on the theory that they somehow destroyed their truck prior to burning it and steal Mr. Dyck's. A lot of people said it looked like it might've been rolled. If that was the case, and the truck and camper were no longer usable, that might explain why they needed a new vehicle. They would have been a lot better off just keeping their truck instead of burning it and bringing attention to themselves. Could've maybe even gotten away with whatever they might've done. The smoking gun was the burnt vehicle, dead man and them driving the dead man's vehicle. But a lot of people say that the roof was somehow crushed in the fire, probably from the weight of the camper melting onto it. I don't see how, but that's what people (who probably know better than I) have said. If it had been rolled or in a significant accident, K & B most likely would've been hurt. They appeared completely unscathed in the surveillance video though.

If the vehicle was ruined prior to the murders of LF and CD, it probably wouldn't have been found several days later burning where it was... So probably that(the truck potentially being ruined) wasn't the motive of robbing/murdering LF and CD, but possibly might've been the motive for stealing Mr. Dyck's vehicle.
jmo, speculating.

I'm not sure that it would create a scene. A person could drive in late, and drive up to the showers and then leave. I doubt that anyone would follow their activity long enough to figure out that they weren't paying campers.

Now if they started washing their vehicle outside the showers at 11:00 p.m., they might get some notice.

Does that exist but if so, I don’t ever recall CCTV released from inside the gas station.
I'm pretty sure it was released and I saw a link to it sometime in the blur that is this last month...

Maybe you could bookmark those articles and repost them every time someone complains that the RCMP didn't give enough details about the ongoing investigation.
Absolutely!

The inexperienced driver could have forgotten to put it in "Park" causing it to roll down into a ditch with no one in the vehicle.

I don't know if the damage was enough to completely incapacitate their truck or if it was still drivable. Perhaps @gigitty will come back and comment on that. I suspect it was still drivable because it doesn't look like it was damaged at the site of the fire.

In the letter he says: "Meth abuse has been documented in several states in the USA of creating or causing 85% of criminal activity."

I don't think we have any way right now to conclusively determine what any of this means...but overall it is just truly bizarre.

Interesting. Bryer would've been 8 at the time, wasn't that about the time Alan left his life? Or was it before that? I wonder what he means by "meth exposure" though. Is he saying the child was neglected because of parents using, or is he saying the child was exposed to the drug by mother using during pregnancy, or somehow exposed in a different or more direct way? I know we can't know for sure, I'm just curious what that could mean. Obviously since he wrote about Bryer's childhood teeth issues, the connection seems to be that he thinks his child's damaged teeth was caused by exposure to meth - likely by the child's mother, the one that in his memoir Alan said :substance abuse had become her only love."

Side note, the "DADDYK" acronym .. Dads Assisting Drug Damaged Youth and Kids. Isn't that last part a bit redundant? Lol.

Bizarre, yes. Maybe he got his soul drunk and his soul wrote that too.

I think when he writes "What is interesting is that meth production can be
eliminated completely by banning the key ingredient found in cough
remedies and manufactured by only three major corporations world-wide," he's trying to make reference to ephedrine/pseudoephedrine, which are not cough remedies, but nasal decongestants. They are certainly manufactured by more than "three major corporations worldwide". A little short on facts, this guy.

But what's his game? He wants to claim that BS was a drug damaged youth or kid?

Yes, he wasn't in his life from age 8 to 16 (well we're not sure if he wasn't in his life at all, or just not a custodial parent and only had supervised visits), presumably due to all the stuff that went down.

If there is any truth in this (and it's a big "if," but it's possible, and can't necessarily be ruled out right now) it kind of fits with the account of Bryer snorting Ritalin, since there are some similarities in the two drugs' effects.

The divorce was in 2005, and around 2008 was when AS started facing criminal harassment charges. Yes, BS would be 8; he was born in 2000.

In the Red Flag excerpt on the Daily Mail, he wrote: "She went full bi-polar on me after his birth. Substance abuse became her only love, and she left me alone with my son every" [page ends there]

I really doubt DS could have had a raging meth problem and still won full custody and a restraining order against AS that kept him away for 8 years.

I do think that these allegations were part of the harassment DS faced.

How does AS's (likely hugely false) allegations of drug use by DS fit with one account of BS using Ritalin? I totally miss that.

ADMIN NOTE:

You may discuss what is contained in AS's book but he is NOT sleuthable beyond that.

The two drugs have similar effects. Drug abuse runs in families.

It's most likely false allegations anyway. But I think we can't rule out at this point the off chance that there was at least some grain of truth in it.

He wrote that letter in 2008. Perhaps at that time he believed drug use in the mother’s home was a current situation. I imagine that concern about his son would lead him to make numerous attempts at calling and when those didn’t get answered maybe even attempting to visit and see or know his kid was safe. Those attempts could be what led to the harassment charges.

But if there were any truth to the allegations, wouldn't BS have been taken away from DS and put in AS's custody? I mean, children's services would have definitely become involved if someone alleged drug use in the home. Instead AS was banned from seeing BS without supervision for 8 years. Isn't that telling?
