"On July 20, as police started processing the crime scene near Dease Lake, the coroner confirmed that Dyck’s body had been moved from an unknown location. Out of consideration for his family, police won’t be releasing any details about Dyck’s death, other than he was shot with a SKS semi-automatic rifle, as well as suffered injuries to his head and body, including bruises and burn marks."
I'm getting the sense that Kam and Bryer did discover Leonard parked there late in the night, drove by, but realizing it didn't work when they parked so close as they did West of Haines Junction the night prior, they drove by, turned round, drove back up the road to keep a fair amount of distance between them and Leonard, then walked the ditch (note: "Scene 5 the Coffee Crisp wrapper" bought at the Super A earlier that afternoon) (also quick aside, what was found at the "Outhouses" and "Garbage Cans?") Anyway, so they're walking the ditch. I don't think one of them hid, while one of them approached the RAV. I mean what would you do if some tall kid walked up to your car in the darkness, wakes you up and is asking for help? Even if they told Leonard they had broken down, he likely still would have said; "Okay, hop in and we'll drive to your car or your friend." They had to get him out of the vehicle with no gun damage and no blood. I'm wondering if they walked up to the passenger/driver side window, tapped on the glass with the gun and Leonard awoke to a gun right in his face. Even with the window up, you're still very likely to be hit with a bullet before you can start the car, put it in reverse and floor it. I would say they made him get out of the RAV, Leonard probably thought it will be a simple robbery, I'll give them what they want and they'll let me go. Thinking these boys don't have the heart to shoot me. I think they shot him, he didn't die immediately, then they beat him with the gun, perhaps even both guns. The new one and the old clunky one. Reading that there were in fact burns makes me wonder also; were they going to actually burn Leonard and perhaps even the RAV then Kam or Bryer got the idea; "Wait, let's steal the RAV!" I do think their new MO after buying the gas can was looting, then burn the vehicles and bodies. They probably got so excited over the idea of stealing his car they decided; leave him, let's just take his car and go now. We'll drive back to the pickup, get our stuff and get out of here. Someone may have even drove by and spooked them from proceeding any further with burning Leonard's body (despite still taking the RAV) and that might explain the haste in which they got out of there and leaving so much of their own stuff behind. If you look in the back window in the better quality Fairview gas station photos on the 20th, it appears there was still a little room to stash their stuff, but not much. In fact is the blue object(s) the sleeping bags I'm seeing? I have to ask though; what was so appealing about the RAV and worth leaving their shelter and so much of their stuff behind? But the more I thought about it, maybe it was just some random clothes and their computers and monitors they left in the Camper. They took only what they absolutely needed. Anyway, were Kam and Bryer really questioning the pickup's integrity, knowing it wasn't going to last much longer. Or rather, was it a spur of the moment change of plans, realizing we just got a great new car that's completely unscathed with no broken windows or gunshot holes and mechanically sound but also not thinking ahead they would never get all their stuff in that little RAV. One more question; what exactly were they using on Leonard to leave these burn marks? A lighter?
