I've also wondered about the first car burning. If they hadn't done that and been involved in the second murder, I don't know that they would have been on anyone's radar since nobody expected them to be in the area at that time. The murders of LF and CD could easily have gone quite cold if it was just a random impulse killing in the middle of the night and nobody was around to see BS or KM or their vehicle, which seems to be the case.

Yeah, but this type of spree is about the drama and their own teen-fantasies of what might work. These are not career criminals nor rational thinkers. They are crazy, inexperienced antisocial young people. The same type of people who shoot up schools, I'm thinking. Setting things on fire might even have a reason (in their minds). In short, they don't know what they're doing, but they know for sure that they are now outlaws and are behaving accordingly.

I'm not exactly local but no. Brandon is southern Manitoba. It's quite a distance from Gillam in the north. JMO.

Big military presence there due to the base at Shilo. Have shouted out to some fellow troops regarding the notice posted - none of them were tracking.

Brandon is southwest of Gillam … well southwest. About 1158 km, but not out of their proven range capability.

Question about the landscape in Manitoba... not being from the area or even seen it in person . I get the feeling that there is pretty much nothing between cities ? Kinda like driving in the middle of Nevada ... Are there lots of dirt roads unmapped ? Or is it more like forested trees etc I get the feeling it’s a loooong way between exits .

Up north I think there are a few unmapped dirt roads, but yes it's pretty sparse outside of town, especially so if you go off north of the TransCan or yellowhead

The setting of the car on fire in Gillam seems far too amateur for even the most ignorant of criminals. Either they didn't care and felt destroying evidence outweighed the obvious sign of their presence, or, and what I feel is more likely, is that they used it as a signal to bring in a heavy police presence before they disappeared into the woods in hopes of igniting an altercation with LE. Out with a bang kind of thing.

I hope I'm wrong but that's my theory.

I agree I think the fact the RCMP is dedicating resources there is telling, but they could just be putting that in because it's their last solid lead. It's a far distance but they have been covering ground quickly - who knows at this point.

Are there any locals that can confirm there is actually heightened rcmp presence in Gillam? Could it be that, that is what they are reporting to throw off the teens and mislead them to think they are still searching Gillam, when in actuality they are hot on their heels in Brandon?

That is an interesting article...especially this line: "The father recalled that his son bought a nice black suit with his second paycheque from Walmart. 'Now I realize it's his funeral suit.'"

In his first interview, BS's father mentioned that he received a text from BS on July 12 saying BS and KM were heading to Alberta. His dad responded with something about having only received two pay cheques from Walmart. (I'll look for that news article again now)

Did BS and KM have a suicide-type mission planned all along and BS bought this suit before leaving?
