I seen the picture. I cannot find it I've looked everywhere but in the picture was the blue van and it look like a picture of Kam near the blue van that was parked at the gas station.
I even recall the text saying " is this kam by The Blue Van in the parking lot?"
But damned if I can find that.
Because if that was Kams photo by the van I was wondering if they were stalking them over the weekend?
I'm still trying to find that photo or maybe Cops had it deleted.
I saw it as well. It was someone’s Twitter feed

A question that just occurred to me. If these guys are in the woods, do they even know that they are at significant risk of hypothermia?
Doubt it lol I grew up in northern Manitoba never occurred to me. But hey ya learn something every day. But I really don't think they are still in the area .I think they went south Monday. But that's just my opinion

Why, when the father thought that his son was just missing, would he say that he had serious psychological problems?

I don’t see anything odd about the difference in statements.
I’m not suggesting he would go so far as to admit his son had problems when he was just considered “missing”. Of course he wouldn’t offer up that information. But he got a bit defensive when he was questioned whether there were any issues or bad people in his life which could have led to his disappearance. It was, at least in my opinion, very defensive sounding... like “no way! My son is as normal as they come.”

I guess for me it’s not even so much how he talked about his son before, but how he’s talking now. He’s not just admitting the kid had a tough life growing up, but he’s saying his son is as good as dead. To me, going from a “good boy” to “about to die/rest in peace” is a fairly stark contrast in outlooks in such a short time.

My take on Bryer's father's despair after learning of the crimes is that he has probably heard things from his son that he didn't take seriously until now.

Does anyone else find the quotes from the father a bit all over the place? I get that he’s this kid’s father and is likely trying to process a whole lot of really complex emotions and thoughts at the moment. But his opinions on his son have seemingly swung from one end of the pendulum to the other in a very, very short time.

When his son and friend were considered “missing” and possibly in danger, he was adamant that they were “good boys” on a simple road trip looking for a new adventure. Then he finds out his son likely committed 3 grisly murders, and suddenly he’s going on and on about what a messed-up life his son had and how he is the farthest thing from a normal kid. And it’s just weird to hear him say that he’s 100% sure that his son is going to commit suicide-by-cop, that he wants his pain to end, and that he will be dead by tomorrow for sure. The part where he pre-emptively tells him to Rest In Peace was especially creepy, in my opinion.

Unless he has had contact with his son in the last 72 hours and his son told him he was definitely killing himself, I just don’t know how a father can say “there’s no hope for him”. Not passing judgement, because everyone processes information and handles grief differently. Plus he does know his son better than just about anyone. Still...
I think he's somehow surviving this nightmare as best he can. He seems like a sensitive guy who is himself in intense pain and probably wishes he could die himself. You've got to realize the tremendous fear, love, guilt and shame all roiling together, I hope he gets support.

I've looked at a few of the long News videos and one from Gray Hughes. But I can't find the image that I was looking for if you could narrow it down for me that would be awesome. Thank you for your reply

It was from someone's social media account, linked into a news story.

ETA:
This is not great, but check out the bottom right corner at the beginning second of the video.

Seems like only a few scenarios are possible
1. Someone mentioned the dark web .. Perhaps they were in contact with someone in the Gillam area that shared the same “interests” that stashed a vehicle for them to use when they got there .
Idk seems like they had a huge head start on LE .... if they carjacked someone we’d likely have another body already ... as we know they aren’t concerned about hiding bodies .
2.The wilderness is a possibility but even seasoned survivalists would find this place daunting . Unless they are holed up in a cabin , shack or 600 room building. Which also could’ve been arranged by a remote accomplice .
3. They hopped a freight train and are far away from there .

Ditching the Rav4 May have been a decoy . I hope not ... I hope LE knows more than they are saying and these guys are caught today !
I would be shocked if there was an accomplice in Gillam. Just seems super unlikely, but you never know

Have you watched the video of him making his statements tho? I read them first too and had similar thoughts but watching it this morning made me cry!! That man should be with his family not being hounded by the media. IMO statements from the parents aren't going to help at this stage but I don't think he was even intending to make a statement.

You’re definitely right about that. I feel really sorry for him. He’s going to need a lot of help and support when this is all over, no matter the outcome. The storm of conflicting emotions, thoughts, and feelings he’s experiencing bleed out in everything he says. He’s rather all over the place.

I’m probably projecting too much here, having never been in his shoes. I just know that I would never give up on my kids, no matter how bleak the situation was.

@otto -- report is that Rav4 was located burnt out on Monday night 7/22 at Fox Lake. What time were they at Split Lake area petrol stop?

This appears to be some distance from Split Lake, no?

I believe they were reported at the Split Lake station at approx 4pm...about three hours before the sighting of the Rav4 fire at Fox Lake

My impression of the father is I think he had a fairly surface-level relationship with his son. Wasn't it stated that they'd been seeing each other regularly for the past couple of years? I think his dad genuinely did think he was a good kid, with his limited knowledge of him, and in light of recent developments, he is probably reeling with what he has learned about his son. It also sounds like he tends to get asked questions while being ambushed by the press. That would be hard for anyone and especially for someone who has no background in dealing with the media. I don't really think there's too much in the stark difference between his statements.

One thing I will add, though, is I listened to his first interview after they were announced as suspect. We were putting together the connection between the cases before it was officially announced. It wouldn't surprise me if he had also heard people speculating his son was involved, so he was being defensive because, to the best of his knowledge, that was unfathomable. For law enforcement to then confirm that just a day later I'm sure was a devastating blow.

I think that must be a mistake, as the Fox Lake Cree Nation you have marked is on the Canada/USA border.

I think this is more likely the location

I agree there's a difference between reading his statements and watching him make them. The poor guy just looks so broken. Even though I watched it after they were named as suspects, I couldn't help but feel very sorry for the dad. I'm wondering if he doesn't have much of a family support network, and there's nobody there to reel him in and say, "Don't talk to the media right now."

I thought it was the father of Kam that said his son was good decent boy. That father has refused to talk to reporters since the status of missing was changed to suspect.

I think this is pretty spot-on. It’s amazing how even the most well-intentioned and seemingly decent people can “fail” a kid, just through unintentional and perhaps even faultless neglect. I don’t know these people at except for what I’ve read. But the stories being told seem to paint a picture of a family who did love the kid and wanted to do right by him. But due to various circumstances, the divorce, etc., he got moved from home to home and never had one singular parental figure taking an active part in his life from age 0-18. It sounds like his parents and grandma did the best they could, but perhaps he didn’t get the level of nurturing and attention that most kids need and that others do get in a more stable environment. It does sound like he was raised more by online video, games, and friends rather than family. Such a shame all the way around.

This man is acting on raw emotion now . I think he is seeing the side of his son he always knew was there but denied until it slapped him in the face. Frankly I don’t think he cares what anyone thinks about his comments and even if someone told him to stifle ... he’d give them the proverbial middle finger .

Thank you!

Appears that Cree Nation's "Fox Lake" was misplaced on google maps by about 11 hours.

@otto - can you add Fox Lake to your timeline/map.

Thanks again. :)

I tend to agree. His father seemed very frail psychologically and broken in an interview I saw.

I’m new to this forum. I was so shocked by this case. I have a son of the same age as Lucas and Chynna and Lucas looked a bit like him. I keep thinking of how sunny and happy they looked together and that they seemed really nice people. What a tragedy for them and for the other innocent victim.

My take on Bryer's father's despair after learning of the crimes is that he has probably heard things from his son that he didn't take seriously until now.
And there are other behaviors that his father is only recently able to understand. It appears the killing spree (and resulting "death by cop") was planned in advance.

Alan Schmegelsky said that when he last spoke to his son, he claimed he was heading to Alberta with McLeod to look for jobs.
“I was absolutely flabbergasted to learn two days later … that they were up in the Yukon,” he told the Canadian Press, noting how Bryer claimed to have bought an expensive suit to be interviewed in.
“Now I realize it’s his funeral suit,” said the elder Schmegelsky.

The going out in a blaze of glory thing strikes me as real and probable . However in order to accomplish that BS and KM would have had to stockpile ammo and weapons . Those games that kids play these days use semi auto or automatic guns ... not rifles or shotguns ...this isn’t the old west . I wonder if they want LE to track them into the wilderness so they can ambush/lie in wait. Rambo isn’t really possible in Canada as assault weapons are nearly impossible to obtain .
