I found a topographical pic of Gilliam on an online newspaper and seen this image/symbol up in the upper left corner. Look up "circle with x" on google. Interesting. I tried to link the page here but it went funny and gave a WS something error. Might not mean anything but still odd JMO
its a road, likely related to local industry of some sort. if you pan around theres actually alot of them in the area

Edit: "road" may be misleading. buts its a real on-the-ground thing and not some sort of map error. Theres 2 more on the road between sundance and the converter station

If there was a checkpoint on the TransCanada Highway at the Manitoba-Ontario border, it would be news and widely reported.

As two of us who are familiar with that area have pointed out, if these guys got to the border area the smart thing would have been to steal a canoe and head out Lake of the Woods. It is vast, has 14,500 islands, many vacant cabins and straddles the Canada-US border.
I remember reading about Rainy Lake in the book "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. There is a chapter where he was considering bailing on the Vietnam War draft notice and was crossing that lake without any notice..deciding whether to go all the way to Canada or not. The book is about the author's life and so the lake escape is a possibility. (Or was in the 1960's). I confess I thought of this option myself if the teens do attempt to cross into the US and Lake of the Woods would work just as well. JMO

Have any reports put them closer to the border?

there has been a lot of discussion over the BURNED cars just being a setup for false positioning.
I tend to agree- I think the burning of the vehicles were just a ruse to throw le off the true trail.
However, I suspect their game of throwing le off the track does not stop there.
I think they set up the entire store video-
1. eg- young kids know of cameras everywhere- so they knew the cameras would pick them up-
2. I think they did this prior to changing their appearance
3. I think they wore outfits to be noticeable.
4. I believe that the entire store event was just a setup to throw le off the true trail.
5. I believe the guys knew that it will be that video that the public will see.
6. they did it with planned tactics of it being false.
7. they most likely changed their appearance after but held off doing so till the had this video made on the store cameras
I believe they are long gone from manitoba- i feel they have a friend who met them to help- a friend who is like them- who wouldnt care what they had done
a brother in arms- a lover of nazi etc
this news is hot and these guys will hide till the news stop covering it
IMHO

Yes, the valuable/restricted items are kept locked in steel cages in the back of the store and as Walmart employees, they would know that. The back area is not as large as people think and most of the inventory comes in daily on trucks. Less used items come in as the computer shows supplies are running low. There would be little, if any ammo in the back and it would be difficult for someone not employed by the store to get into that area and if they did, they would likely need to enter the back side of the building via a door that is supposed to be kept locked. Policy got reinforced on that one after the store I worked at, was closed for several hours because of a bomb threat.

To access the back area, they would need a vest as well as the standard issue nametag, which carry's a barcode, used for time clocks and to enter cetain areas, as well as access the keys lockbox.

If they happened to make it to the back and it happened that they were unloading trucks and ammo was among the things being unloaded, it still wouldn't be easy to access because items like that come on a pallet with similar miscellaneous items, all very tightly wrapped. Employees are present when trucks are unloaded and each is tasked with a very specific job. Someone is there to take clothing and ready it for the floor, someone is putting security alarms on electronics and someone else is moving items for the locked cage, others start assembling things like bikes and others are grabbing boxes to be crushed.

The whole process looks is done with a supervisor present, there are more cameras in the back than there is in the front and even one extra body will cause a huge uproar. Theft in the back is a greater concern for Walmart than shrinkage in the front because items haven't been added to inventory so smart employees learn quickly that it's unwise to put their hands in their pockets for any reason and caught in the back without Walmart ID is grounds for dismissal and you will have enough time to pick up your possessions from your locker and you will be escorted out of the store.

Having worked there, I would assume both would know that and I would suggest they were hoping to find the ammo and airsoft ammo in the same display case. I'd hate to say it's not done anymore but it's not supposed to be because the belief is that someone could steal ammo, while asking for the display case to be opened for airsoft pellets.

I have been wondering for some time if Walmart was not to their liking, or if they were not to Walmart's liking. If they were fired, what reason would they have to stay in Port Alberni? That's a rhetorical question. MOO.

Been following the story for the entire week now and have posted a couple of times. I just can't get my head around this entire mess. Obviously the "searching for work" thing in Whitehorse is complete hog wash, given the timeline from when the cowards left home July 12 and randomly killed Lucas and Chynna on July 14/ 15. To travel that far just to commit murder seems so very... odd...? ( Don't get me wrong, I fully trust the RCMP and their grounds for them being wanted in relation to this). Was there an encounter on the 13th between BS/ KM and Lucas and Chynna?

They then bummed around for a few days before killing IMO a citizen who likely stopped to help them out and may have recognized them as being reported missing? They wanted his vehicle? They wanted his cash/ credit cards? And what evidence has them linked to both locations and three homicides? What evidence brings a charge of Second Degree Murder?

Then to travel such a distance to perhaps box themselves in in Gillam?? Im guessing Gillam is somewhere remote enough that they could see themselves living off the grid/ hiding for perhaps ever???

Yes, you'd probably have a better chance of evading capture on the water. I mean, interdiction along Highway 17 is a no-brainer. I'd be disappointed to learn that the authorities weren't monitoring that route closely. The authorities would have some explaining to do if the suspects actually crossed the provincial border by car.

If there was a police checkpoint at the border, it would be news and widely reported, including on social media.

I'm a gamer myself and built my own PC gaming rig but if I planned on going out on some sort of killing spree I definitely would have no use for it anymore. In fact, I'd be selling it for more cash.

Perhaps they thought they could sell it while "on the road."

If it is true that BS was an accomplished troll, as Sleuth3000's comment shows, then we have a nearly unprecedented case of such a personality committing serial crime and a very public crime spree. If BS's main MO in gaming was to suss out and use personal details against other gamers (anti-social within gaming, but common enough), he has no outlet for that impulse while on the run. I wonder if he had multiple identities within the gaming world and spent a lot of time inventing and maintaining them.

Because ALL their planning for this adventure, all their communications with others, all their lists, all the information that would condemn them as spree killers and show their escape plans would be available to whomever found it at home. That would be one of the first places LE would look

Any information would be on the hard drive. No need to take the whole computer. And they could have simply destroyed the hard drive before leaving.

I think they took the tower simply because they were hoping to do some gaming. You're going to need power for the computer and wifi if you want to do online gaming. Both of those are available at many campsites. Additionally, there's free wifi all over, and they could have had their own power supply via an inverter.

There's so few roads to choose from when going through Sask and Manitoba. There's nearly a 100% chance that these ******* drove right past my grandparents' house right off the highway and were within 500 meters of them.
Same here in northern Saskatchewan. I drive to work at 5am and there’s a really good chance I could have passed them. We were even joking around that I might get pulled over because I drive a grey RAV4 and it was already speculated that the “northern” city was Meadow. The only road would have most likely been the road I drive.

That's the only plausible reason I can think of. Carrying around a 25lb computer tower while on a spree just seems odd.

The hard drive is useless by itself.

If we're talking about Rust, it's an online game available on Steam (and maybe elsewhere.) From a new computer, you can simply download Steam and then download Rust again. If someone wants to play with his old account, this is trivial, but of course it can be tracked. If someone wants to start anew, they can just create a new account and purchase Rust again (either directly through Steam or through a reseller.)

I just find it odd that they actually lugged around a computer tower. If they didn't have any intentions of actually moving anywhere, why the computer? Theoretically they could camp out and play games inside the camper if they had access to power, but then internet would be very limited and so would their gaming (RUST is an online game).
I agree, why lug a tower computer- instead of either laptop or their phones- or tablet- his father had paid his son with a custom made computer instead of paying him cash when he helped him on construction one summer
so that computer was a gaming unit most likely water cooled etc

I wonder how much attention Dick Wolf et al. are paying to this case? Would make one helluva SVU episode.

I think they actually intended on playing games while on the road or they wanted to sell it for cash. McDonald's has free WiFi everywhere.

Bringing the computer wouldn't be odd at all if they were looking for work. I wouldn't even think it was odd to take it camping.

When their adventure turned into something different, they got rid of it. Seems clear cut.

IDK, seems you may be attributing intentionality where none exists, or overattributing what does exist. For example why would they have any reason to think this would be the video released? They've been in multiple stores and gas stations and the like since then. I would wager they are probably thinking/worrying they are leaving behind alot more evidence than it seems to us, and given how tight lipped LE is being about the whole thing, Its possible they have

Just to clarify, because I've seen it in a couple of theories:

On the day they killed Mr. Dyck and burned their truck, the teens had not been linked to the killing of Chynna and Lucas, nor were they even reported as missing.

It was only after they did those two things, that LE could make the link between the 3 deaths (presumably through ballistics).

Im thinking its possible that K took a wrong turn, ended up in the middle of nowhere and BS killed K, BS having no license is now thumbing it hence the lone male hitchhiker spotted in the area.

Not sure what the internet speeds are like over there but I would have thought there'd be no hope in hell of online gaming using public wifi.

Perhaps if they knew they were going to be hiding out (and I don't think burning the car was planned) they took the computer thinking they might get the chance to use it. The other possibility is one of them was very attached to their PC and couldn't bare to part with it.

Being SVU, a New York-based show, they'd probably have to set that episode in the Adirondacks. Even then, I'm not sure it would be believable.
