Okay, can anyone say why the initial pictures of the actively burning grey RAV 4 was rightside up, on its wheels... but almost all of the pictures of it being burned out and abandoned show it being on its rooftop.... Just wondering because CBC keeps showing the burned out images of the vehicle being upside down and on it's rooftop... but the first pics of it burning were not that way. Sorry I just can't make sense of this, can anyone else?

I am of the mindset that they asked questions about it being dry to confirm that’s why they were indeed stopped by constables. They were likely panicked and very suspicious so they wanted to validate and make sure they weren’t being looked for yet...

That’s a good explanation, sure, could be why. This is the original quote and indeed they were inquiring about the sign.

Manitoba RCMP finds burned vehicle of men wanted in connection with three northern B.C. deaths
“They came to my till and he just asked to gas up $20 and that Bryer guy, he asked me ‘Is alcohol allowed here in the community?’" says Mychelle Keeper.

"There’s a big sign at the truck stop there, no bootleggers or drug dealers, he was asking about that. I said ‘no, it’s not allowed here because it’s a dry community.’ That’s it. They paid for their gas and they left," adds Keeper, who says they didn't seem suspicious....” @NEWS1130

I tend to agree and I have been thinking about cooking meals without a fire and if they had brought MREs like was previously suggested they might have brought with them, then to prevent being spotted with a campfire, one thing I remembered about MREs is that some of them like these in the link below have their own "ready to heat" packet that generates heat by mixing a small amount of water. There is some sort of included heat pack or something that has a chemical reaction with a tablespoon of water and that is used to heat up the MRE meal.

So there would be a way to have warm meals without a fire.

Here is the Manitoba Winter Road map which includes the area where the RAV4 was burned:

https://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/winter/2018maps/map3.pdf

This is an incredible network of roads and the maps also show the RR through the region.

Brilliant work with the "winter road" maps @afitzy!!

As the railway tracks are shown, have you found anything depicting the paths to access electricity pylons (to get to York Landing).

Some residents think the suspects walked down the railway line (60+ miles away in Fox Lake) and then took the winter roads or paths to access electricity pylons to get to York.

Thanks again. ;)

We know cell coverage is spotty at best. These two wouldn't still be using their own phones or I believe they would have been caught based on cell phone pings. It's highly doubtful they would be using LD's phone as LE would be tracking that one as well. I can't see them using the couple's phones (if they murdered them).
I'm not familiar with burner phones but do they have data capabilities where they could do a search online for info about the manhunt? And if burner phones do have data capabilities, does LE have a way of finding or tracking phones used in certain areas? I'm sure they brought along some portable/cube chargers but how long do those things hold a charge if they have a few and are using one at a time?

They ditched the RAV 4 before news broke of LD being identified and them being named suspects so how did they find out they were wanted and why continue trying to evade police if they are innocent. They have to hear the planes/dogs/searchers etc. if they are still alive (which I think they are)

RCMP had no choice but to do what they did. Anything less and - just an opinion - but it could have turned into a political statement.

Definitely. If you’ve got Mr. Flavel telling the media that his group has probably solved the crime, you’ve got your marching orders.

It was on its roof when it was back on the road, after being pulled out.

So for those people who believe it wasn’t the two murder suspects at the dump...who was it then? Just some other two random guys out on a mission who took off through the bush when they were spotted? Or do you think it was a complete hallucination?

I noticed that too. IIRC the right side up photo still had a small bit of flames coming from the rear. Might’ve a winch truck flipped it over to ensure the fire was fully distinguished?

While all your links are credible. The fact remains it is not unusual for people on Vancouver Island to wear camo and military clothing. There are several surplus stores on the island with clothing and equipment/accessories at a very reasonable price. Seeing a young guy in full fatigues would not surprise me here one little bit and wouldn’t look twice or think it unusual.

I don't think it's all that unusual to wear camo or that there's anything wrong with camo, but in this case it's Bryer's mentality about camo and what it means to him that is the issue. It's not my thing and I don't see too many people wandering around in it wear I live, but even if I did, I would't think anything was amiss. In BS's case, it's all these reg flags coming together that paint a picture of a deeply disturbed individual.

That would be a truck topper!
A truck camper usually sleeps 4-6 people depending on size!! Some have port a potties and others have a full washroom!

We had a camper the whole time I was growing up - but we called both kinds of things campers. We called what you're calling a topper a "shell" if we had to distinguish.

Their camper looks much nicer than I had thought, the whole rig looks way more expensive than I realized. Very middle class/upper middle class by my local standards.

I wonder if theirs had a restroom...if so, they were planning on a rather luxurious trip up to Yukon.

Surely, they must have had enough money to budget for gas. But...if they wrecked the parent's truck and camper, that may have seemed super-catastrophic to them.

I'm actually getting nervous. I have to travel from Winnipeg to N. W. Ontario (Dryden area) overnight tonight for my work. I know the odds are slim, but it's in the back of my mind.

Don't want to share locations, but I just returned home after 4 days on the road and was nervous for a lot of the trip. I was definitely looking around as much as possible at my surroundings (including other people) the whole way. I might have looked a little crazy to some observers, but better to be safe.

When you stop, when you get gas, food, bathroom break, etc. be smart, be safe, be cautious and be aware always.

And touch base with loved ones often. :)

I dunno. But whatever the answer, it appears that RCMP doesn’t believe it was them.

You don’t start pulling your people out of there, if you think these two guys are in the area.

Burner phones have data capabilities, but its extremely expensive. A prepaid/burner phone has a set balance of dollars on it, say like $50 where the user is charged 5c/min talk or 5c/KB of data, and the user can use it in any way they wish until it runs out of the prepaid balance.

Modern internet webpages and resources consume a lot of data so the $50 or whatever else balance on the phone was would be consumed extremely quickly.

Winter roads are referred to as such because in the winter the bogs, marches, muskegs, streams and rivers etc are frozen. In the summertime the routes are impassable. If the roads were walkable they’d also be drivable, which is why in the summer they’re not....the reason they’re referred to as “winter” roads. Winter roads are very common in northern communities with their long winters and short summers.

I believe the RCMP communications officer. She said the only way they could’ve arrived at York Landing was by air or a 2 hour ferry ride, or by the train tracks which are 25km away.

My dad being a long time now retired towtruck (recovery) operator wondered the same thing. Hes assuming it flipped over when being pulled onto the highway for removal

I’m not saying that it wasn’t them. I’m saying that Bighetty’s description on video and what Bear Clan head James Favel told the press are not the same. I’m also very surprised that Bighetty has not said that the people he saw were white. As for whether the two took off, find me that in Bighetty’s video. A rather important detail, and he doesn’t even mention it.
