I guess I should have expected that he would be granted bail because he's only been charged with 'interfering with a dead body', nothing related to the actual death of Mohd.
This is such an odd collection of news stories. What happened here? Was Mohd the victim of a random attack? Was there an existing relationship? How was the lawyer identified?
My guess as to how the lawyer was identified, based on what little we know, is his name might have been associated with that white Budget Rental van that had been parked outside someone's elses property (though it's never been outright stated, I believe the body in the bin was in that van). If this is the case, I'm surprised he folded so easily and didn't try to sell a story where he had rented the van for someone else and was unaware of the contents.
I think there's a lot more to Mr. Bagabuyo that LE is not releasing.

I want to know what this bin looks like? Is it one of those large garbage bins we all use now? It has to be pretty big, right. Such a weird case.

Let me document Mr. Bagabuyo's online presence before, inevitably, he gets removed from all these websites.
Butch Bagabuyo | , where he is listed as family law mediator, lawyer, and arbitrator.
"Butch Bagabuyo is a lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, and parenting coordinator. Butch has been mediating for over 18 years and is actively involved in many dispute resolution initiatives. Butch is passionate about finding creative solutions and assisting his clients in times of crisis. He is the first qualified Parenting Coordinator and Family Arbitrator in Kamloops and is trained and regularly conducts views of the children as part of his professional practice. Butch advocates for the children in times of divorce and separation—a time when most parents are unable to cope with the stresses and challenges of their new reality. Butch assists families to create a fair and reasonable child centered parenting plan and schedule as well as resolves their parenting disputes. In his spare time, Butch enjoys many sporting activities and spending family time with his daughters.

If you have any questions or would like to contact Butch, the best way to get hold of Butch is via email at: [email protected]"

his personal website is called Butch Bagabuyo - Mediation, and shows he owns the company Bagabuyo And Company. Seems like he has multiple employees that work with him.
"About Us: Bagabuyo & Company is a dynamic organization committed to deliver focused expertise, innovative solutions, and a broad range of value-added services. Our team of qualified and experienced mediators (lawyers and non-lawyers alike) assist parties to a dispute resolve their issues by transforming their arguments into discussions and their problems into solutions."

"Butch Bagabuyo is an experienced trial lawyer with a busy litigation law practice in Kamloops. In addition to his courtroom skills, Butch is also a trained mediator and a skilled negotiator. He applies his understanding of people, especially during a crisis, to effectively resolve matters in a less threatening or costly manner. Butch continually promotes mediation as an option to all his clients because he passionately believes that mediation provides a better option for resolving disputes in a timely and inexpensive manner. When asked, Butch said “people want to hire me as litigation counsel but I often find myself telling them to hire me as a mediator instead so I can help them even more. “ For Butch, he “would rather be part of the solution than become part of the problem"
[edit - are you sure about that??]

I am wondering if the 'plastic bin' in question is one of those big Tupperware storage bins, a la Breaking Bad.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to realize that they thought they knew some people, whom they really didn't.

Thats what I was initially thinking but then my mind went to possible body parts.. so, I'm going to stick with the garbage bin until we know for sure. yikes. IMO

This article answers a question I had (was he involved with this divorce lawyer because he was going thru a divorce?) and offers some more info about Mohd's life.
TRU senior lecturer remembered as a quiet and kind man - Kamloops This Week
-his wife had died a few years ago from cancer
-Abdullah was also a pilates and yoga instructor in the city
-a former student of Abdullah’s described him as a very nice man who was very physically active.
-Abdullah was the subject of a KTW story in 2009 that had international reach, when he spoke out after being warned by staff at the Tournament Capital Centre not to wear shorts deemed too short. The then-48-year old felt the policy discriminatory and refused to heed the warning, calling it a double standard

The article about the little shorts, if anyone wanted to know more. He seemed like an interesting guy! Funny, too. I don't have the confidence to wear those lil booty shorts so all props to him :D If I'm doing pilates in my 40s and have strong quads I'd want to show em off too.
"I'm not going to change my style, not when I'm a half century old," he said. "I'm just going to keep wearing what I'm wearing".

Butch the attorney is an expert at 'solving disputes?' Apparently not.

I cannot imagine how this lawyer and mediator ended up with a deceased professor in a plastic bin in his rental van. What a nightmare.

I would guess this attorney was hired as a cleaner by someone else and didn't do a very good job of it. He may turn up dead next, before he identifies his client.

The article quotes a fellow teacher in the department who says he didn't know Professor Abdullah but had worked with him for 21 years? What kind of department meetings do they have at this college?

Has anyone read about parents, siblings or children? I've seen nothing about family yet. I work at a college and this man's death is hitting close to my heart. What a mystery.

His title was "Senior Lecturer." That isn't, IMO, as commonly used in U.S. colleges/universities as the titles "adjunct instructor" or "adjunct professor" or "lecturer." But in general, I would presume that a "senior lecturer" is not on the tenure track and is likely to be employed on short-term contracts to teach specific classes in a given semester. Therefore it would not surprise me if the deceased wasn't included in "department meetings" and might not be particularly well-known by people who might be considered his colleagues.

Interesting. Thank you for the information.

Interesting. I would have thought the connection between the two might be more "recreational," let's say. But I guess time will tell what the police can prove.

Interesting---that^^^ gives me a potential motive.

The daughter says the attorney was a trusted friend, who knew all about her father's assets and properties, etc. Sounds like the attorney might have been trying to gain control of those assets, by making Abdullah disappear?
That might be possible...but to me it's more likely, with lawyers and professors who are not desperate for money, but not millionaires either, that the death was unplanned, perhaps to try to cover up something like fraud. At least, that would be the plot in a detective novel.

The van appears to have been driven all over the region, yet was found back in Kamloops with remains still there...doesn't seem like a plan...
