I would've been more open to this early on, but if LE did in fact know or believe she didn't want to be found would they have called in S&R, cadaver dogs, etc. to the park?

I get they have to follow every lead and have protocols and had to search the park - but over artsy photos? That was a pretty broad move to call in all the troops for 2 photos! My feeling is, the only way LE can classify this case as someone not wanting to be found is if they hear it straight from the horse's mouth (SB) and they cannot assume this even though the family might.

I agree that LE might see this case differently from the family. I think that they were obligated to search the park the way they did because it could have been a crime related to someone else even if it wasn't Shannon in the pics.

The worrisome thing, is that in pursuit of various jobs, meeting lots of new people in different provinces, out and about having fun and doing her thing ( as she should, power to her ect.) Shannon could have found herself, as many females do, in a bad situation.
Locating Shannon close to home is likely, but anywhere really, seems possible. imo.

the shamrock hotel,, since this cps study the national hotel is now a swanky restaurant,, but the shamrock?

Cst. Dale Whitton, CLO, Zone 1-3:New to the Inglewood/Ramsay area, has been challenged with the
debris issues that the street level sex trade brings into communities. Numerous
concerns have been expressed about the National and Shamrock Hotels and the parking in the alleys near
these locations. Cst. Whitton can be reached at local

Residents were asked to identify problem locations. Their responses included:
No locations are problems 24%
Under bridges and by the rivers 24%
The 7/11 – Spiller Road 18%
9th Avenue & 13th Street 18%
9th Avenue & 11th Street 12%
The two 9th Avenue locations are in Inglewood. The Spiller Road location is in Ramsay.
The references to the bridges, the railway underpasses and the river pathways apply to both
communities. Interestingly, 11th Street area near the Shamrock Hotel was not mentioned in the
street surveys, even though it was mentioned in community discussions as a location where some
street prostitution, drug use and drug dealing occurs.

November and the end of the month desperation, welfare recipients needing a fix or a place to find a quick john - not Shannon but the area -

Even if they assume she does not want to be found, they cannot be sure as long as she does not contact anyone, so they will follow standard procedures. She can also be in a state of mind that she can be a hazard to herself even if she does not want to be found, note the medical situation the police did not want to get into. I would guess in a missing person's case if there were health issues it would be of importance to adress those, unless it could have an adverse result, imo of course.

The police officer made sure to mention twice that Shannon wasn't in any kind of trouble, why would he say that to an adult?

I just heard on the radio that there has been an amber alert issued for 3 Edmonton children that have been abducted by a man in his 50's. I am travelling right now, can someone start a thread for this if one hasn't started already? TIA!!

Perhaps SB was in trouble previously with the police and that is why they are stressing that it's ok to come forward now and contact them ? Maybe it was a bad previous experience ?? Just thinking about how much they keep stressing that it's ok, that she wont be in trouble...it's almost like they want to add ' this time ' to it.

To me it seems the family (or at least the sister) is downplaying/in denial about how this is really looking right now, and to me, they just want to get it across to her, if she might be listening or something, that although she is an adult and entitled to just take off without sharing details with anyone, police are asking her to contact them.. and not because she is in any trouble, but just so everyone knows that she is safe. I wonder if 'they' (whoever in the family that might be) might wonder if SB would be afraid now to contact LE if she thought she were in trouble on top of wanting to keep her status private, and so they just want to make that abundantly clear to her? Seems silly, but.. who knows what might go through people's heads if they are kind of 'wanted' by police, in a way.

I asked a friend to take a tour of the Inglewood area near Lolita's Lounge and the 9th Ave corner where Shannon would have emerged from the train bridge underpass. As she approached 9th Ave she would have been near the Ironwoood (1229 9AVE SE), which is a high end (Porsche, formal dress) spot at this time of year. Walking East towards Lolita's, Shannon might have seen someone riding a bike in the -1C temperature, perhaps a pale skinny single woman looking for a meth fix passed her on the street, perhaps two men heading for Lolita's Lounge smelling heavily of cologne got out of a car down the street, maybe four men on the North side of the street were drunkenly hailing a cab. As she walked the poorly lit street towards Lolita's Lounge, which is next to Burglar's Pub (one of two pubs between the intersection near the Ironwood and Lolita's Lounge), she would have crossed one street and passed many narrow passageways between buildings. Between most buildings are 4-5 feet wide people alleys, mostly without gates. It would be very easy for someone to stand in those alcove-type areas, grab her, and she would disappear. Another method for abducting women was described by 17 year old child murderer Austin Sigg:

He saw 10 year old Jessica Ridgeway walking down the street somewhere in Colorado, so he pulled up on the wrong side of the street ahead of where she was walking. He stopped, got out of the car, opened the rear door as she was walking by, grabbed her, put her in his car, restrained her, showed her a weapon and now she is deceased ... something like this could also happen on 9 Ave SE at 12:30-1AM on Nov 26, 2014 at night in Calgary. 9th Avenue has one driving lane, and one parking lane on both sides of the street. It's not out of the question that someone could pull ahead of her, grab her, and be long gone towards the city limits East of Calgary.

"... he [Austin Sigg] described abducting her [Jessica Ridgeway]as she walked past his car. According to police, Sigg bound her legs and arms, drove around for a while and then took her to his house where he strangled her and dismembered her body in the bathtub."

Are Shannon's mitts at home? No one would walk from her Townhouse to the Inglewood Pub district without mitts in -1C weather ... mitts and toque weather, but otherwise a good walking temperature.

I would prefer that her husband is responsible, as that means the rest of Calgary is safe. If her husband is not responsible for her disappearance, the only alternative (I've ruled out suicide and travels to Vancouver and Toronto) is that an evil person (probably male) grabbed her off the street, and could act again.

I just realized that I'm coming up to my tenth anniversary on this website in about 12 days!
That's a new one for me.

From watching the pressers again I get the impression, that Shannon may have mental health issues and previous experience with the law- which may not have been good and so she now has a distrust of them. It's not so much what they say but rather what they are so careful not to say, to avoid, both her sister and the police.
I hope that they take this serious, ( it somehow seems like it's not a full on missing persons yet or that they don't feel foul play is likely) and that they find her soon.

I doubt it. Police said that they had no information that she had a medical condition and weren't sure that it would make a difference even if there was a medical condition ... meaning it's a non-issue. It's in the extended version of the interview that I've linked too many times to search for it again at this moment ... later.

Abducting a 10 year old is far different than abducting a fully grown adult. One would hope she would know better than to walk alone between some buildings.

Shannon was last seen at 12:30 am, but that doesn't mean she disappeared at that time. If the husband wasn't paying attention, she could have went to bed, got up, went for a run, walk, had coffee with someone who may become a suspect... maybe even on the Friday. Who knows?

The cell phone should hold important information as to when it was used last, what was accessed etc. The phone company could also provide usage details. LE should be able to get a good idea of when she disappeared. If the last time she used her phone was the night she was last seen, then one would think it would be enough evidence to get a warrant to search the house.

As for the winter clothing there or missing... hopefully, someone has enough sense to check that.

Is there a high suicide area within walking distance from her place?

If she didn't take her car, and hasn't made any purchases, how does LE think she may have gotten to Toronto or Vancouver?

If LE was able to commit heavy resources for days to search the park... why aren't they going through the house?

How tall is Shannon? How much does she weigh? From the description, although I can't remember the specifics, my mental image is a 110 lbs not short, but not tall, 25 year old woman. 110lbs is light enough to easily drag down an alley, or into a car.

Shannon was reportedly seen in her housing co-op townhouse at 12:30AM late Wednesday on Nov 26. She could have walked out the ground floor exit of the townhouse and headed down the sidewalk that leads to the parking lot on Spiller Road. From there, without her cell phone, it's unlikely that she wandered over to the Shamrock Hotel. If she walked towards the 7-11, she didn't arrive. Still, she would have worn mitts and perhaps a toque. Where are they? How many toques and different mitt pairs did she have?

It's not about the victim being 10 years old or the convicted murderer being 17 years old at the time of the murder, this is about how easy it is to grab someone off the street. Given the district layout, the poor lighting, the seedy clientele, the alcove-type people-alleys between buildings, and the location in the city, it's conceivable that if her husband is not involved, then something bad happened.

We don't know whether the police have been allowed to look around at Shannon's townhouse. At the press conference, police said that they didn't yet have a full accounting of what was missing at the house. Police are committing heavy resources to unusual disappearances and crimes in the city - police are not prejudging the disappearance of Shannon, and the family is very cooperative. Shannon's disappearance could be a suicide, it could be a head game where she's playing fantasy/reality war games in Vancouver and Toronto, it could be that the estranged husband with whom she was living snapped with jealousy and murdered her, and it could be that someone grabbed her off the street after "she left" on Nov 26 after midnight.

Police can't search the house without a search warrant, and they can't get a search warrant without probable cause. A husband has no reason, nor obligation, to allow police to toss his home simply because his wife vanished off the street after leaving their home late at night ... after a long drive from Edmonton ... after being awarded the part in a very exciting film opportunity the following weekend.
